Title: Ranking
Post by: andy456 on March 04, 2010, 06:22:57 pm
Say, for example, you are ranked 12 out of roughly 75 people for English. Is that a good ranking and will the 12th person be able to get a 40+ SS. Btw the cohort is pretty weak.

That's incorrect, if your cohort is pretty weak then being no. 1 still doesn't guarantee you a 40+SS.

Our cohort had 150 kids and 4 got a SS above 40. That's top 2% heh

Yeah, the strength of the cohort makes a huge difference
Still, don't let it deter you, keep up the effort :)

Oh god, does this mean if my cohort is made up of idiots and I'm not exactly doing too well in SAC rankings (my tecahers like to post out the critera after we've handed in our SACS) then I'm doomed?

You can read about moderation on the VCAA website ... http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/exams/statisticalmoderation/statmod.html.

Just ensure you get good SAC marks (A - A+) so you can be near the top of the cohort. As long as you ace the exam, which I would be putting all my focus into once I have knowledge of the course, you should do well.

I.e.: last year I got an A for unit 3 and A+ for unit 4. I think I was around 6th in my cohort of approx 80 students. I pulled an A+ (~54/60) on the exam and was one of only two students to score above 40 in that cohort of 80, even though I wasn't at the top.

The first positioned student in my cohort dropped one mark over the entire year. He scored a B+ on the exam and got something like 35 for his study score.

EXAM IS KEY!!!!!!!!!!!
