1) State three similarities between the design and function of HPLC and GLC

2) State two differences between the design and function of HPLC and GLC

1) stationary phase+mobile phase, detector & recorder, sample injection port, can be used to find the Rt value of different sample components.

2) HPLC uses liquid/aqueous mobile phase while GLC uses Gaseous(inert, usually nitrogen) mobile phase. HPLC can be performed under normal laboratory temperatures where as GLC has to be performed within an oven to ensure the sample are vaporised. Only samples that have low boiling point can be analysed using GLC as they need to be in a gaseous form to mix with carrier gas.

HPLC=high pressures and porous solid coated wiuth vicious liquid
GLC= gas and oven
