As the title suggests, why is physio so popular?
I mean, the salary from what I've heard isn't great (compared to others in the 95+ ENTER region)
You don't get nearly as much recognition compared to others in the 95+ ENTER region
Yet the clearly in is 95+
This may seem a bit vague, and I'm kind of interested in it, but what makes it so popular
Also, can anybody tell me roughly salary for physio's in hospitals, private clinics etc?

I've always wondered things like this too, maybe people genuinely enjoy physio? someone has to out there.
There's one more profession that's made me even wonder more though, dentistry. I seriously don't know if there are people walking around out there who have a serious passion to be dentists (sorry any future dentists) i just don't see the attraction to the job. Fair cop though, some people don't understand why someone would possibly want to be a scientist or something and i understand that.
I have a story to offer.
So, once i was at my dentists.
He's a chinese guy about 27 i think, he's not fob or anything pretty aussie.
So, the oppertunity presented itself and i asked him; "Why did you want to be a dentist if thats not a rude question"
His answer "No, no i dont mind.
See, my parents wanted me to be a doctor but i could only do that if i was in the top 1-2% of my class and i knew in reality i wasn't able to make that. So, i chose dentistry.
Also, i can work whenever i want, im not on call like a doctor and the pay is still rather high."
So, maybe thats why someone would want to be a physio?
Medicine isnt as glamorous as people make it out to be. You deal with a lot of crap (especially if you want to do emergency medicine like i fancy) all kinds of criminals and drugies and down right heart breaking stuff like little 5 year old girls dying on you. Long hours, lots of stress and face it lots of psychological problems, it would change you.
I dont have the statistics but i dont think many people have died in dentists chairs.

Studentdoctornetwork.net - If you could do it over again would you
Read into it if you want, this thread made me seriously consider if i still wanted to do medicine. If your in it for money you can get it elsewhere, if your in it to help people dentists still help people with sore aching teeth which im sure is a huge relief and they make people feel better about themselves and if your in it for the prestige there's lots of other jobs. You seriously need to be in it for the medicine to be able to take it all..

Physio is also popular because many have the Dream of becomming a sports physio. Yes and some definetly will.. Not all of them will thoough!
It's preety bad as a career though . A lot if them have to retire early or just take regular holidays due to the body aches etc.
-
Yeah, ive noticed some of the more sportier people in my biology class are into physio what naved said is probably a factor too.
-
I'd always thought physio had good pay, but I probably thought wrong :P
-
pay probably isnt too bad is it
-
According to MyCareer.com's salary page the average salary is around $72,000 (this is within Victoria though). If you were extremely keen on the money aspect of the job, I would suggest living in England, as their demand for physiotherapist's is high
-
Thats not absolutely terrible pay is it?

Exactly what I thought

80 grand is still a very decent living and theres no over time or manual labour or anything. You're still some sort of professional too and if you open your own physio practice or center later on you would make heaps.
Its starting to sound half decent lol :D
-
It's an excellent career choice, plus If your into the physiological side of how the body works, then it fits that category fantastically. This may be just me but from where I situate, (40km east of the city), saying your a physio makes you sound smarter :P keeping in mind this is the area where manual labour is high.

Try the west lol

Try the west lol
LOL, the West isn't alllll bad.
-
Yeah, you're right.
Stab all those who say people from the west are violent
-
Yeah, you're right.
Stab all those who say people from the west are violent
LOL, and you just had to use the word stab.
-
Wah?
-
people's chill out! 80grand is heapsssss (or atleast i think it is haha)
anyways,
physio looks so interesting to study, it's very biological based (as you'd expect) there are interesting places to work afterwards, patient interraction, there's some variety in what you can do (even move into animal physio!) and so on. i can definitely see why it's appealing, the new physio course at melbourne sounds incredible i was tempted.. haha
-
yeah physiotherapists get alot..
80 grand? haha ... im saddened... scientists get shit money compared..

haha fineeeeeee but you don't need big money anywayyyy! you can be just as happy xD
-
ha yeah i guess lol just wait until go get through uni, then we'll see how motivated u r
-
yeh pay isn't bad, but i mean nurses get the same if not more in a hospital (especially because it depends on the amount of shifts)
I am interested in the physiology side, it does seem quite interesting.
And it would be amazing going around the world on the tennis tour or something like that as a physio, but as you say not many people get that opportunity
Okay here is another question then:
lowest physio enter is 95.4, but chiropractic is 80.4, so why not chiropractic?
I wouldn't say people regard physios and better than chiro's, and the pay is just as good, so why 15 more?
