Basically feeling the regret - especially on the practise GAT day at my school where I was totally left out o_o
made me amazed by the amount of people who do mainly art/psych 3/4's at my school this year
Is it a common situation to be doing 6 subjects in yr 12? or most people knock one down in yr 11?
Then again the subjects im doing somewhat do require their 1/2's
(English, MM CAS, GMA, Japanese, Chem, Accounting)
(actually didnt know Accounting well back then and so I didn't want to risk the chance of hating it if I dived into 3/4)
*lowers head* :(

^^ I don't think you'd be able to enrol now though because of missed SACs and stuff.
Most people that don't do a 3/4 in year 11 drop one at the end of the year. I think doing six 3/4s would be pretty hard but I guess it is possible.
-
Dont worry bro, I've got the same problem.
Seriously regret not doing a 3/4 in year 11. I'm aiming for 99+ too so i feel that I'm severely disadvantaged :/
But everyone says its not as bad as you make it out to be, just motivates you to try harder
-
A lot of people dont tend to take their 3/4's in year 11 seriously so your not that behind in that respect if you still work hard im sure youll do just fine :D
-
Probably not that much of an impact. Unless you would have done really well for it.
Our school recommends we only do 5 subjects in year 12.
-
personaly, i think six is too many, then again, it depends what type of person you are.
IF you are a type of person that work well under pressure, 6 is fine. I have friends that do six and they cope.
Also, if you do drop a subject, it dosen't mean you will definetely do well in your others. I know while i used my free time efficiently at the beginnin of the year, since the start of this term, it has definetely been slipping and i've been wasting the free time three propper subjects affords me.
Basically, if you are good at time manegement but know you have a lazy bent, do six, it will keep you in line.
btw, have you given up on umep? that might be a good compromise...
-
no im still thinking of trying out enhancement @ monash (japanese) for next year,
crappy part is trying to convince my mum that it wont get in the way of my other studies and how it will benefit me ==
edit: woops not umep

IMO UMEP Maths is way harder than Spesh. In Uni Maths I can't really keep up with what is being said and I just transcribe what's on the board without really understanding it >.<, this never happens in school.
-
from personal experience, I believe doing a subject in year 11 is not always advantageous.
I remember back in year 11, I was motivated to do so well in BM and basically aced every SAC (96% +). Unfortunately i got a-bit lazy at the end and started cramming. ended up with a 39 which i was bitterly dissapointed with considering i had put so much effort in. This year I'm not as motivated to do as well because my BM result keeps haunting me. Hope that helps with your decision.
-
I'm disappointed I wasn't allowed to do two, methods and chinese :(.
-

... sounds like olympiad summer school.
I found that doing 2 3/4s really helped me, although I probably would've done better in English Language if I'd left it to this year. On that same token, I think I would've done better in methods or chemistry had I studied them last year.

I agree with this and I also think the more open-ended subjects such as English are best left for year 12 as you can continually nurture your skills in these subjects as you go. Other subjects such as the maths or science can be more easily completed regardless of what year you do it in because the answers are definite and hence the courses do not require as many years of experience to complete well.

This is slightly off-topic, but is it advisable to do 7 subjects? (not that I'm going to... but some subjects have poor scaling but they're one of my pre-reqs. so I don't know if I should keep that subject as my 7th instead.)
I can't see any reason not to. So unless you hold strong sentiments against it, go for it. For you especially, as you plan to do two 3+4s in year 11, it should be managed quite easily, most people do 5 in year 12, so that is not really a hassle. Just make sure you choose subjects you enjoy and it should be all good.

How do you prepare for olympiads while simultaneously doing two 3/4s well in year 11? It's bad enough this year! I'm thinking of doing one 3/4 in year 11 and six in year 12 now. Can't be bothered with working hard for VCE at this point, though I'll be fine in year 12 when I can actually concentrate on it.
Hmmm ... I'm doing 1.5 3/4s and I think it shouldn't be too difficult to get prepared for olympiads
Then again, appianway made it look easy... :P
-
Maybe it's because I really didn't prepare for the NQEs (aside from looking at a handful of the past papers)...

lol, kyzoo, i can tell you ur not alone. The other 10 ppl in our class would be just as confused as us. Like all that crap about planes and their cartesian/parmetric eqn went wayyyyy over my head in class. Just copied the notes down, then wheni looke over them it made much more sense. I think that umep just takes a litte more concederation than spech as the concepts are a bit harder to grasp and the pace we learn at is way faster than spech. So many more formulas to remeber/ learn to derive.....
dammit, wish we had it like trinity where they teach uni maths as an actual subject with like at least 4/5 periods of it a week.....the extra class time would make all the difference as opposed to a two hour lecture once a week
-
Good point. and when you're Year 11, you're actually competiting with more mature and slightly more intelligent (in general) Year 12 students. So there are pros and cons :)
(However, BM scales down right...? So that's the flaw.)
I would have to disagree, because if you are doing a 3/4 in year 11, it will more than likely be because you like it and/or good at it. So you will have no excuses, but year 12s have 5 or 6 3/4's.

DONT BE SAD! Im in year 11 too AND THE GAT IS FREAKING ME OUT . my school is so serious about it. they even make it compulsory that we have to sit a trial GAT exam. so its like we're doing GAT 2 times. I guess, on the bright side, you wont need to go through any of this. CHEER UP AND STUDY HARD FOR YOUR 6 SUBJECTS NEXT YEAR! GOODLUCK! :)

xD I bet HJ gets it completely. Sometimes the teacher writes the stuff down so fast that I haven't copied it all down by the time she rubs it out. But I think we get distracted a lot by the people we sit next to >.< Maybe if we all had to sit at separate desks things would be different.

lol this is defs true, but meh, as long as you half get it, when you revise it, it's all sweet:)

Agreed, i know that at my school ,the yr 11s that do methods always outperform the year 12s

Same, more than half of our 40+'s are Year 11's
