K,
In my english class, only 2 people got A+ for their written SAC. I got an A. I got A+ on all my practice ones and class prize for english last year.
In another class, about 8 people got A+, even my dumb friend who got C last year for his exam got A+.
This is very shattering, as you are ranked by school not class correct? :'(
-
Yeah you are ranked against the entire cohort. Doesn't your school cross mark with other teachers? This usually helps prevent differences such as these. Maybe you should speak with your teacher (in private) or VCE coordinater.
-
Fuck! So Im screwed?
-
wow thats a pretty high average to keep up with O_O.
you aren't screwed yet, just do well in the next two sacs, and extremely well in the exams (better than the others :P)

This may be hard to do, but if you can get another teacher to grade it (not many teachers would do this). Hve you asked your teacher why you got an A and not an A+?

Perhaps your essay only deserved an A? And the other students deserved A+'s.

I agree, why is it so difficult to believe that you're not as good as you'd like to be? I was the same. I considered myself to be quite good at English... first SAC, B+/A. But instead of blaming others, I realised that I needed a lot of work, and so I put in the hard yards. Year 12 is quite a big jump from other year levels, it gets harder a lot faster. Don't expect to command the coveted A+ immediately. Did your teachers leave constructive criticisms? Are they valid? If so, there is your reasoning for getting an A and not an A+.

harsh
Same thing happened to our bio class. We had a dumb shit of a teacher for the first four weeks of school coz our usual teacher was on long service leave. Our first SAC was easy as but she marked it stupidly(instead of being out of 25 it was out of 65) and took off marks for no reason. I ended up witht he highest in the class (89%) so no one got an +A. Yet in the two other bio classes there were something like 5-6 people with above 90%.
-
I agree that it's very possible that you got the mark you deserved (maybe it was a high A?), lots of students face the same situation you're facing and find that in year 12 they all of a sudden have to work harder than they did before for the same marks. But still, ask your teacher how you can improve and how the cross-marking process works. If you still think it's unfair after that, then do something about it. I have to say from experience though that about 98% of people who claim bias are really just deluded (you could be in the other 2% though!)
In any case, make this a positive experience! Make your work so good that no teacher could justify giving it less than an A+!

ask her of the sacs are moderated to ensure internal comparability
-
Yeh, but dont you think its odd that some classes got like 8 ppl with A+ and mine only got 2?

Nope.

An effort to cross-mark should have been made. If it wasn't made, then you should definitely try to get it done. The system isn't always fair in some less established schools, so even though it is possible that the A was the mark you deserved, it is just as much possible that the internal marking is not credible.

I probably sound so arrogant right now, but there is NO fkn way that this kid got a higher mark than me or this other kid in my class who is complete genius type. The guy can't even spell properly, he is really really dumb.
Argh!!!

You have such high opinions of your friends! Things like this happens, and by harassing your teacher about it, more than likely they'll get annoyed at you, and your marks as a result will suffer in future. It may not sound fair, but teachers are like that. I think it'd be more beneficial to let it pass and concentrate on future sacs.

As I (and others) have said, investigate the matter. But, have you read the essay? It might be really good. Spelling is pretty insignificant in VCE English.

If this is the only piece of evidence that lead you to believe your SACs were being unfairly graded, I don’t think you will be taken seriously. Go through the comments your teacher gave you again, you may have unknowingly made a simple mistake which caused you to lose marks.
In my opinion, I believe it’s a bad idea to measure your level of intelligence against other people. Everyone's at a different level, and everyone works and improves at their own pace. Anyway, it's rather mean. Perhaps he worked and improved immensely over the school holidays?
-
I don't think it is a matter of your teacher not liking you, but careless mistakes could have cost you marks. But an A average is still an excellent result. Maintain that throughout the year, and achieve a high mark on the exam and I am sure your SAC marks will only increase.
-
Unless you accept the grade you got you will never be able to move on and improve. For good sake, ask the teacher why you didnt get an A+. Also there are many kids that play dumb, that are actually pretty smart. Okay and one more thing, dont be soo cocky about your english abilitys, that probably caused you to slack off.
But anyway good luck for your next one ;)
