Title: What are you averaging on your trial papers?
Post by: taiga on June 05, 2010, 11:42:30 pm
Hey guys, just curious to know how you guys are going on your praccys.

I started off pretty shocking with like 50/80, I'm up to around 70-75 /80 in general now, but i do occasionally drop back to mid-high 60s. Obviously I'm trying to get as high up as possible but yeah I keep losing silly marks  ::)

How about you? :D

Depends there are times when i get high 90's others when i get high 80's.

Depends on how much i choose to read the question and not make my own up as I go. Or even better... work out the multiple choice.... then circle the wrong answer! wow i love doing that.

I vary from high 80s to high 90s also. Sometimes I vague out and do stupid stuff. I usually go better in real tests though. Don't really have any motivation to do well on a practice test...

Practise, especially with Stoich, know the content well, and focus on the tricks that are likely to appear.

AND most prominently RTFQ!  haha...
Title: Re: What are you averaging on your trial papers?
Post by: Martoman on June 06, 2010, 02:20:49 pm
I think *people like us* get 90 because we have a sense for what each question is asking and don't really have to think so much about it.

^^
I normally lose like 5 marks on each paper because of mis-reading the question or just reading it too quickly.

Yep. First couple of exams should identify which areas you need to revise, then it's basically stupid errors with some of the more extraneous or subtle concepts of the course.

Yeah everyone got 100 in the sample exam, so you got lower than everyone, so you get a study score of 1.

A small number of low res photos of my current stack of trial exam papers it may not seem much but that is more than 200 pages (it's thicker than the tsfx notes and the textbook)

the classpad is there for scale.

really VCAA should can exams because of the disastrous effect on the environment.

I thought that was the  2010 VCAA paper for a second and I was like WTF! haha.

And i'll see your pile and raise it about another 300 pages :P
Title: Re: What are you averaging on your trial papers?

no that's my databook (inside is hiding the official exam that you stole and sent me ;)

remember that everything is doublesided and I haven't counted, 200 pages is a large number I am saying.
Title: Re: What are you averaging on your trial papers?
Post by: stonecold on June 06, 2010, 04:47:44 pm
Ah okay, well if it's double sided then it matches mine.
I'm too lazy for double sided, plus I hate when you can see shit on the other side of the page...

And don't go around announcing on a forum that we have the exam, they'll all find out!  Shhh! :P

I seriously pray for a challenging exam.  It makes me concentrate harder.  When they are easy, my mind wanders and the stupid mistakes creep in. :(

Once again I agrre with this 100%, it also means that a small mistake isn't going to affect much, either (BTW i seem to be agreeing with you on everything you say here.)

I hope it's a really hard exam. I doubt it'll be though.

Does anyone know if you can afford to drop marks to get a 50? And if so, how many? I really hate to harp on about scores, but what sort of marks do you need for 48+?
Title: Re: What are you averaging on your trial papers?
Post by: ghadz7 on June 06, 2010, 09:43:26 pm
I think you can lose one mark and still get a 50.

Last year jimmy lost 5 marks across both papers for 49 apparently.

second exam 1?
Title: Re: What are you averaging on your trial papers?
Post by: stonecold on June 06, 2010, 09:55:45 pm
I thought it was 4 marks on exam 1 and then 1 mark on exam 2.  Probably wrong though.  But last year isn't any kind of measuring stick unfortunately.  Unless the one of the exams this year has some ridiculously low A+ cut off, then my guess would be max. 3 marks lost over both exams for 50.

For me, 45 is a minimum goal.  Anything less and I'll be very disappointed.  48+ would be awesome.
Title: Re: What are you averaging on your trial papers?
Post by: m@tty on June 06, 2010, 10:37:06 pm
It was 5 and 1 for jimmy for 49 raw. link.......
Title: Re: What are you averaging on your trial papers?
Post by: vexx on June 06, 2010, 10:47:05 pm
you definitely don't need full marks on both exams to get a 50, and for 45+ you can get two mid A+'s (depending the A+ range) and still make it depending on your SAC ranking.
