Say a molecule had a carbonyl and carboxyl group...how would you name it?
-
the only thing VCAA asks you to name with carbonyl groups are esters
I'm pretty sure
-
Carbonyl group = ketone group (sometimes)
-
But we don't even need to know about ketones and aldehydes.
-
VCAA 08 begs to differ.
.......But that question on 08 could be done with simple logic.
-
Which question?
-
4cii :D
-
We didn't have to name it though, they just wanted the structure which, as you said, is easily determined using the given NMR data and some logic..
-
For that question since I knew what a ketone was i immediately just went bang ketone thank you 2 marks.
I guess an understanding would be good if you are looking for mega marks.... but it aint in the study design. You are correct.
-
>.< even if it isn't in the study design, it only takes like 5-10 mins max to learn
-
lolz i'd say a few seconds ::)
-
I just forget which is ketone and which is aldehyde... But yeah, quite simple...
