i was talking to a chem examiner who owned a vce bookshop a few weeks ago and he said that this years exam will be just as long and hard as last years, if not moreso.
how prepared do you guys feel?
im so nervous!
-
Yes, definitely expect the difficulty and length of the exam to be similar to last year's because it gave VCAA an excellent spread of results - unlike its evil counterpart, physics.
-
I really hope it is like last years.
-
I hope it's like last year. Last year was fair - everything was in the course, it was just long.
-
this thread is giving me the creeps...
but yeah, hopefully not easy otherwise dumb mistakes will destroy me...
-
it wont get much harder.
VCAA 09 probs had some of the most difficult stuff they could throw at us.
- a difficult stoich q (q.10)
- an unusual hydrogenation q about the polyunsaturated hydrocarbon
- difficult/weird explanation q's
- Solid spectroscopy/nmr/IR question
Only way they could make it harder for some is maybe add more, lengthy 'explain' type questions about enzymes, biochem, organic chem, analytical techniques, bonding etc.
I find they are usually the ones where i lose marks other than silly mistakes. the little one or two marker here or there asking you to explain and link some weird concept that just gets you by surprise and you have no idea about the theory behind or cant make the link in the stressful conditions.

Last years was easy, i hope it is harder.
-
Expect a hard exam tomoz. I failed to realise this for Bio, but the paper was 27 pages long this year, when in other years it has been like 22.
Last years exam 25 pages, this years, 24 pages. Gonna be hard slog.
Good Luck everyone!
-
Good luck everyone, xD.
-
Good luck :)
-
hoping for the hardest thing ever, I want to be crying after coming out (only as long as the rest of the state is crying)
and yes good luck to everyone
-
i think this exam will be a bit easier then last only because it's shorter, and have a cutoff more around the low 80's and not low 70's. which is still fineeeee (just guessingXD)
-
I'm scared :P
Me too... After reading this thread! :o
-
hard to tell the lentgh by pages. with the new format and all. but yeah could potentially be just as long as last year.
hope it is, as time was not really an issue for me when i did 09 as a praccy. although i guess in exam conditions its a completly different story.
meh. no hope guessing. im off to bed. drained from physics.
-
I think it will be, especially since I heard physics and bio exams have upped the ante. So I'm expecting a beast tomorrow.
Only worried that I'll have the right mindset on the day.
If it's a simple exam that will be disappointing to many people, especially the deserving people on vcenotes who worked hard to prepare for a difficult exam.
-
Yeah I'd be expecting something similar to last years.
Only now i gotta remember to check back over my work carefully and read the questions properly. If i don't make too many stupid mistakes it should be alright.
-
agreeed darkphoenix, I just make so many costly errors.
-
the worst thing would be if, you realised that your answer is wrong and restart, but u didnt finish on time so your short answer question is mismatched...and then your consequential marks is zero as the first bit is different to the second part.
Happened to me in SAC 1, true story.
-
I reckon it'll be easier than last year. Look at how piss easy the 2008 exam was and the A+ cutoff was still only 87%. It was also two pages longer than this years exam.
-
Yea well there were more marks in 2008 than 2009 and that didn't mean 2009 was easier. It means very little.

The worst thing is if you skip a multiple choice at the start, but accidentally colour in that one with the next question's answer. Happened to a teacher's daughter at our school on the gat. She got nearly all the mc wrong...
-
Ouch. Therefore, as they say, never skip a MC :)

Yeah true just guess it first, cause if you run out of time, i doubt you are gonna remember to go back to it.
-
Shitting my dacks.
-
good luck everyone. whatever happens, happens. we're at a stage now where we can do nothing about our score so just go with the flow ;)
-
Thanks everyone for freaking me out! i was hoping it would be easier than last years one!
I'm a little worried about it... but oh well...
Good luck everyone!
-
hope its harder.
-
lol this thread.
-
The difficulty seems to see-saw from year to year. Expect a hard one next year.
-
Easiest thing ever.
-
lol this thread.
Well it was made before the exam so it was a reasonable prediction but I guess VCAA thought otherwise.
