Title: [UoM] 2010 Semester 1 Results Thread
Post by: username on June 25, 2010, 04:39:06 pm
Quick link to the results page: https://sis.unimelb.edu.au/cgi-bin/results.pl/24791

Due to the upgrades to the student portal, results release will change from Semester 1, 2010. Faculties and Schools will be able to release results for subjects taught in Semester 1 as soon as the results have been certified (finalised). There will no longer be a single date on which all results for the semester will become available to students. There will be a deadline by which you should expect to have received results for all the subjects in which you have been enrolled. For semester 1 that date will be Friday 9 July 2010 at 9am.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

· Before 9 July, you may receive your results for each subject individually and at different times. You may receive all your results prior to Friday, 9 July 2010 or you may not receive any of your results until Friday, 9 July 2010.

· You should not expect to receive all of your results until Friday 9 July at 9am.

· If you log onto the Student Portal from Friday, 9 July at 9am and do not have ALL of your results, please contact your Student Centre to inquire about any missing results.

FOR EXAMPLE

· You sat an exam on Tuesday, 15 June. The Faculty marks your exam and enters the results into the system and certifies the results on Monday, 28 June. You will be able to see that result as of Tuesday, 29 June.

· You sat another exam on Friday, 18 June. This Faculty marks your exam and enters the results into the system, but does not certify the result until Thursday, 8 July. This result will not be available for you to view on the Student Portal until Friday, 9 July.

For further information, please contact your Student centre at:

Although it is annoying that they will come seperately, isn't this a faster system? Can't remember exactly but July 9 seems earlier than last year.

Yes, I edited my original post because I initially thought all results would come one after another after 9th but this is actually a good thing. :)

It's the same maximum time as previous years, but a lower minimum time (eg if you had an exam on the first day of the exam period)

So does this mean that the earlier you sat an exam, the earlier you'll get the results for it?

In theory. Depends on how efficient the faculty is at marking and submitting their papers (ie i'm not expecting my genetics marks until the 9th lol)

Nothing will be available before monday though, because that'll be the first business day after the end of the exam period.

Thanks.  That's the thing I was confused about when reading the announcement.

Great, so I can have a heart attack every day until the 9th of July.

I sat all my exams in the first week, so if I get more than two results in one day, I'll get a heart attack and a stroke at the same time.

ugh, all my exams in a week would have killed me!

In terms of a heart attack, i got a massive shock last year, when I got an email entitled "your chemistry mark has been revised".

Great, so I can have a heart attack every day until the 9th of July.

This is pretty much how I feel and the results come out in less than two weeks.

What I hope to see:

- Quantum Mechanics and Special Relativity H1. I really loved this subject.
- Thermal and Classical Physics P (Really difficult exam).
- Real Analysis with Applications H2(A or B). The exam was easier than expected so I'm expecting atleast a Pass.
- Introductory Personal Finance P (Really difficult exam + Minimal Study = :S).

Yeah, that's what I don't get.  3 weeks to schedule exams, yet they put all mine in one week with two on the same day.  Academically, the biggest fml for me so far.

It was actually no change, which was weird, but it was still a   :-X moment

Did you inquire as to why you were sent that email?

The bigger the cohort, the more likely the exams will fall in the first week - so they get more time to mark them :P

Then I only have to ask myself, "Why the hell did I choose to do 3 popular science subjects and 1 compulsory subject for all first-year B.Com students?"  :P

I had a 400 student subject in the third week, the examiners are probably pretty busy for that one, heh.

No, I didn't bother to find out, my mark was recorded as the same both times so I figured it wouldn't actually matter. A lot of friends got them as well so I assumed they'd just sent it to everybody.

I like this better. Shame Monash results don't come out until the 17th of July and yet I still have 1 exam left on Wednesday morning.

I know at RMIT my mates got their exam marks back about only a week after one of their exams. We should be allowed to get it back once it's ready, no point in waiting so late

I have a feeling results will start popping up tomorrow. The last day of exams was Friday, so i think today would be the first day that faculties will start entering final results in the system, and since results are updated in the portal at 7am every day, if they release results today (which would be the first working day after exams), then results will start appearing in the portal at 7am tomorrow. Just a theory...

You sat an exam on Tuesday, 15 June.

----

You will get it before the 9th if it is approved. But all results will come out by the 9th irregardless.

So does mean that our results will come out after 9 July?

They must not have updated the button yet.

I'm not sure what you're asking... :\ With the old system, 'from' meant that you could access your results on the 9th onwards. But since they've changed the system you will get your results before if not on the 9th.

I assume that the button hasn't changed since they updated the system (it's the same as previous years). The information they've posted says fairly definitively that results will all be out by the 9th, with earlier exams coming out earlier if the faculty marks them fast enough.

Oh well, nervous checking of the portal every day now :(

If you click the Frequently Asked Questions link under it, there's a updated question "Updated - When are my semesters' results published?"

There will no longer be a single date on which all results for the semester will become available to students.  There will be a deadline by which you should expect to have received results for all the subjects in which you have been enrolled.  For Semester 1, 2010 that date will be Friday 9 July 2010 at 9am.

Yes I'm glad about that one, that was what I predicted.
However, it was the best possible one that could be revealed.
The rest will be relatively miserable.

PBL- Principles of Business Law?
I was worried as hell about that result semester two last year- ended up with a H1 by some miracle after I thought I'd failed.
I would have thought Lambiris would enter the results straight away?

Oh man one mark off for Chemistry!  I hate it when that happens.
Reminds me of my chem mark for exam 1 in VCE last year, one mark off an A.

Nice work everyone. I really want to get a 75 average...

Nope QuantumJG, I haven't received any results.

Nick I thought so too. Lambiris is usually fast at entering results. But...it's been about 3 weeks since I even sat that exam and no sign of results yet. Gosh I'm hoping I did okay because I didn't think I did that well on the exam...case studies are so weird :(

The results will come out, not having them yet doesn't mean anything about your marks, just how efficient the staff are/whether they needed to do any significant exclusions.

Well I dream of getting an 80% average (if I do I could potentially get a $10,000 scholarship for MSc), but a 75% average is still something I'm aiming for.

I don't think I deserve a 75 after the minimal effort I put into work this semester. Got to work harder next semester. Hope you get that scholarship =)

Is it a requirement of the scholarship to get an 80 average?

Congratulations to those who have gotten their results already. Awesome work. In hope that Monash may have been nice I decided to check my results page and nothing. Oh the sadness =(

I'm sure you'll get atleast a 75% average. For the MSc scholarship I need an H1 average. For me to be considered for a PhD spot I need an H1 average in my MSc. Talk about nerves then, lol!

I aim for a 75 average for like, too many things.
First I said it was to keep guaranteed entry to the JD but now I'm not sure I want to do that.
Now it's for two things: good exchange opportunities and getting an internship with who I would like the most (preferably the Age har har har harrr).
And also, to go somewhere that actually teaches straight journalism at a postgraduate level.
Somewhere good.
Like Columbia.

I just got all my Results:

MAST20026 - Real Analysis with Applications , Option , Credits: 12.5 , Passed , 2010 , Semester 1 , Parkville , On Campus Mark: 67 Grade: Third Class Honours (H3)

PHYC20009 - Thermal and Classical Physics , Option , Credits: 12.5 , Passed , 2010 , Semester 1 , Parkville , On Campus Mark: 67 Grade: Third Class Honours (H3)

PHYC20010 - Quantum Mechanics and Special Relativity , Option , Credits: 12.5 , Passed , 2010 , Semester 1 , Parkville , On Campus Mark: 78 Grade: Second Class Hons A (H2A)

FNCE20003 - Introductory Personal Finance , Option , Credits: 12.5 , Passed , 2010 , Semester 1 , Parkville , On Campus Mark: 58 Grade: Pass (P)

Now let's compare that to what I was expecting:

Great, so I can have a heart attack every day until the 9th of July.

This is pretty much how I feel and the results come out in less than two weeks.

What I hope to see:

- Quantum Mechanics and Special Relativity H1. I really loved this subject.
- Thermal and Classical Physics P (Really difficult exam).
- Real Analysis with Applications H2(A or B). The exam was easier than expected so I'm expecting atleast a Pass.
- Introductory Personal Finance P (Really difficult exam + Minimal Study = :S).

Well I was a tiny bit below my expectations for Quantum Mechanics and Special Relativity, I was above my expectations for thermal physics, I'm content with how I went with Real Analysis and I am so happy I actually passed personal Finance (since I really neglected this subject).

Overall I'm happy.

LOL i am in the same boat as you. i was expecting H1 or H2A and got 66-67 avg for most of my subjects. feel like shit. espescially sad is the fact that i studied consistently throughout the semester too. :(

Yeah especially when everyone is getting H1's. At this rate I may 'just' get into MSc and me getting a PhD is looking pretty slim.

A lot of people do much worse in 1st semester of 1st year than the rest of their degree, don't get too upset by it!

Oh well, things can still get better lol

If I get an 82.5% average next semester I will be on an 75% average which I would love.

Yeah I was talking to one of the student centre people a couple of months ago and she said that a 75% average was pretty good. I should really get around to calculating mine at some point lol
