Title: Help with kinematics!
Post by: sajib_mostofa on June 30, 2010, 03:36:59 pm
A balloon ascends, from rest on the ground, with an acceleration of 8m/s^2. At the end of 40 seconds, a stone is dropped from the balloon. Find the velocity of the balloon when the stone is dropped

Is there a weight involved with the stone?
If not, this is simply rectilinear motion, and the stone can be disregarded.

v=u + at
v= 8x40
320m/s

I got the same answer as you but the actual answer says its 50m/s
