I know theres not a large amount of indonesian students here but i thought id just see/ find out what Detailed Topics people have chosen.
So if anyone is doing the same topic or another one feel free to talk about them here!
Also if anyone needs any info about Pembakaran Mayat di Bali i have a few websites etc.
( i thought id list these so people know who is doing what incase they need assistance etc. )
Upacara :
- Pembakaran Mayat (Topik Terperinci Saya)
- Penguburan di Tanah Toraja (andy456)
Lingkungan :
(masalah yang dihadapi oleh) Cendrawasih ( darcy42)
Good luck everyone!
-
It's an easy topic, already covered practically all that they can ask. Our whole class is doing it but with different animals, so i expect it is widely considered easier, as our class is anything but elite haha

I wanted to do something similar to what your covering but maybe with orangutans but i really only got offered a choice out of a number of Indonesian traditional ceremonies like marriage, selamatan, etc. Since i do indonesian by distance education im not going to try do something that has no materials supplied etc. :p
So are you basically ready for your oral exam already? because im no were near there )=

Tahun yang lalu, topik terperinci saya adalah Upacara Penguburan di Tanah Toraja dan saya belajar bawha orang Taraja *spend* semua uangnya di Upacara ini *instead of the necessities* seperti pendidikan(i hope this word is education and not government, I always got them wrong).
Saya mulai topik terperinci saya kira-kira bulan Augustus. So if you start now you guys should score fairly high. And my advice is make sure you bring in pictures into the exm because they are a great point to talk about if you have a mental blank, seperti saya. Don't memorise questions whatever you do!!!!! Just know topik terperincinya.
-
Yeah my teacher reckons i could do the exam tomorrow and do well, but i want better than that.
We started our detailed studies at the end of last year, a lot of our summer holiday work was on it.

Wow good job, i only started a month ago and i still have to do alot more research and prepare myself for possible questions etc.
-
Oh yeah no doubt i can do more prep, all possible questions etc.
My teacher also says to get practice with another few examiners, just to get some different vocab and all that. Might have to organise that soon

Pictures were just from the internet.... If your teacher thinks your ready now you're probably going to do really well. Do you have a study score in mind that you're striving for or just the best you can.
-
Hmmm yeah i don't think i should aim for anything, cause i will probably be disappointed haha.
Just the best i can, it's all i can ask for
-
Well whatever you get you will be happy with because the scaling for this subject is absolutely great. Just an added benefit of studying a language.

Great attitude to VCE here (=

aha thanks.
and yes the scaling is one of my best friends in the world :)

Our teacher chose Agama - Religion :( Really wanted to do something about enironmental impact on bali from tourism. i've been to Bali twice and got heaps of pics.. so was very dissapointed.. don't know whether second topic would be easier. We only have 4 kids (including me) doing year 12 indo.. help please

Are you just doing religion in general? or are you studying a specific religion ?
Also couldn't you have asked to do the environmental impact of tourism by yourself?
Im doing year 12 indo by myself for 3 years )= and ive never been to indonesia!

how's the oral practise going, guys?
-
how's the oral practise going, guys?
Fairly terrible )=
yourself?
-
Gooood. Have a formal practice oral exam with some experienced examiners from another school on the weekend. I think it's like a company, like the revision lecture people. Should be interested, we have to be taped and then listen to it later..eep.
How are you goin?

I was going to go to a formal practive oral exam as well, except when i went to book it was already full )=
-
I reckon it's been pretty hard preparing for it. There's just too many questions that they can ask us. Less than 1.5 months to go =/

I just had a good session preparing for it, and also the listening section on the end of year exam.
And yea there are alot of questions, but we can get most of them in the bag i think (=.
Whats your topic sapriol?
-
Whatlol, how long have you studied Indonesian for?
sapriol, darcy42, how long have you guys studied indo for?
how long do you guys think it takes to become fluent?
(i lived in indo for 2 years when i was younger and accidently learned a bit, just wondering whether it's much more difficult to pick up on your own in australia)
-
I'm doing western influences on the lives of Indonesians. It's a good topic, but there's just so much to talk about.
You've started preparing for the writing exam already?
-
We've done several practice written exams. I really need to practice responding in Indonesian, both reading and listening.
The responding in English questions I am fine with, and the essay writing is also good, but I am always disappointed with the respond in indo ones. So easy to just copy slabs of writing from the passage! haha
-
Ahh, wow. We haven't started on any yet. Should I be worried? haha
Mmm, I guess copying those slabs could be an easy way to answer the responding in Indo questions? hehe
-
But they dislike it and deduct marks for it. Need to use your 'own words' apparently.

I've been studying Indo since year 7, but back then we didn't really learn much. I'd say we learnt the most in year 9. And I guess we didn't pick it up on our own since we take around 5 classes a week. What year are you in this year? If your school doesn't offer Indo, I think you'd be fine learning it outside of school...
-
I've been studing it for 12 years, but in primary school I learnt very little. I definitely learnt the most in V.C.E, which makes sense.
I think that with the right amount of practice anyone can become fluent in Indo, you can definitely learn on your own. Although I've never been overseas, I've heard that visiting the country is the best way to increase fluency.

I have been studying since year 7, also since year 10 i have studied through distance education.

Yes this is true, thats why its good to have an excellent vocabulary base, but its better copying the slabs than nothing.

doing yr 12 now.
i never spent time learning it outside of school since i left indo (2000).
my indo probs around as good as your average grade 3 indo student as that was when i left indo...not doing it for vce unfortunately, speak it at home though.

Thought I might revive the ol' indo thread.
How is everyone feeling this close to the oral exam? What are you all doing as last minute preparation?

Im feeling fairly confident i suppose, im just basically going over my topik terperinci dan sedikit percakapan umum. dan darcy42? bagaimana perasaan anda tentang ujian? What day / time do you have yours?
(changing in and out of indo ftw?)
-
haha yes well changed.
my exam is next thursday at 12:15.
yeah i feel pretty good about it all. just have to remember to relax and enjoy it, which is as you know extremely difficult.
at the moment im just going over everything, ideally in exam conditions.
will be a good feeling when it's done!

i've still got a long way to go...working on writing at this stage.
some of the essay topics are just blehh

are you from indonesia/malaysia?
haha, yeah, Malaysia. :) but I went to an English school, and moved here in Grade 4, so my Malay was kinda crap when I first started Indo. :S
-
oh cool! do you speak malay at home? and has it helped with studying indo?
-
oh cool! do you speak malay at home? and has it helped with studying indo?
No, English is my first language, so that's pretty much all I speak at home. :)
But when I lived in malaysia, all my classes were held in Malay (yeah, imagine learning maths/science/history in a different language! :S) so that has definitely helped. :)

semoga sukses!

Couldn't find a Indo exam discussion thread?
How did you guys find it?
I thought it was relatively easy, the hardest probably being the reading about batik.
listenings were reallllyy easy. i was stoked with them.
and essay topics weren't bad, one was about the environment which was pretty much my detailed study.

i kinda stuffed up first listening text, rest were really easy.
Main concern i had was i dont feel i expressed my answers for reading that well.
-
mm i wouldve lost a couple of marks for the batik one.
the mudik one was pretty good though. just made something up for 'what does that author assume about motorists' but otherwise it was good.
and yeah the first listening text was a little harder, i said buy one get one free instead of buy two get one free? obviously not sure.
second was good, third was really good, i'd been having trouble with listening and responding in indo, however this one was fine.

i found the guys accent in the first one to be very heavy, and he wasnt articulate enough to hear clearly (=.
But yea i said the assumption was they all had access to the internet or mobile phones? didnt know.. lol
-
yeah I said the author assumes that they had internet access and a mobile phone, and that he assumes that they care enough about traffic issues to visit the website haha.
first one will probably get a mark.
