Just wondering about how screwed I am.
Basically, at this stage, I've been doing most of the textbook (minus the yellow pages) up until chapter 8. The class is finishing chapter 9 by the end of this week, or thereabouts. I haven't done any of the blue pages either, nor touched Checkpoints.
Assuming I catch up (which should be okish, hopefully) but still don't do the yellow pages/blue pages (or Checkpoints), and instead jump into doing lots and lots of exam papers once the course is finished, will I stand in good stead still for the end of the year?

Yellow pages = waste of time.
You are fine. Chapter 9 = chapter 8 with some bite.
I am in your boat atm.

You are doing more than I did. [I did about half of the 'interesting' problems, and spent my time sitting on my arse organising my itunes library.]
It's not about how much, it's about the quality of understanding, only you can judge whether mindless practice is going to be useful or not.
-
LAWL Mao I do a similar thing with computer games
-
lol, i ceebes doing the yellow pages, unless my teacher specifaclly directs me to them. I strted doing the yellow pages at the start of the year, last year for methods, but then jsut like got lazy if thet's any indication....
but yea, just do the exam papers and you'll be fine :)
-
I do more of the yellow pages than the actual exercises (especially the extended response).
The exercises just test basic knowledge. It would probably be better to do chapter reviews (especially extended response) instead of doing heaps of exercises.

Thanks guys - feeling more confident now. =)

Is this for essentials book? if yes... your schools only up to ch 9? isnt that a bit slow considering theres only like 1 term left and the course should be completed at least half way - 3/4 through
-
My school's also only up to differential equations...
I worked ahead in the holidays so I'll have more time for practice exams.
-
my school is just about to finished chap 9....i think that's pretty standard....what chapter are you guys up to?
i mean all that's left is mechanics and dynamics....
-
most of my students' schools have finished up to chapter 8-9 thereabouts.
-
We're up to chapter 13, on dynamics.
Should be finished the entire course in a couple of weeks.
-
yeah were up to the end of chap 9 as well .... im up to 9A :P so yeah im behind too lol
-
99.95, where are you up to?
yitzi-wow....that's quite far ahead how do you need a few weeks to finishd the course then??
samuch-don't think ur behind, just at a normal speed
-
tram, our teacher pushes us really hard, plus we did most of the year 12 course in year 11, so most of it was just revision this year.
And it'll take a few weeks to finish the course because we've got a couple of SACs soon which are going to take up some time.
-
kk, fair enough
-
Don't worry, EvangelionZeta, I do waaay less work than you. I agree entirely with Mao; it is not the labour, but your understanding that is important.
-
I worked ahead on the holidays so im up to ch 13 now
my schools doing ch 10 i think, but rushing hard... so everyones gonna be like O_O

OP do realise that Mao, M@tty and I do NOT represent a good cross section of math students. In ANY way shape or form :smitten:
-
crap.....shoud've reli work ahead..... :( ah well....grrrrr hate physics :(
and lol matoman
-
I think someone asked (can't remember who...), but for the curious we're meant to have started chapter 10 and I'm on 9B...
-
Ok so umm... my class just did chapter 10 & 12 in 2 lessons lol and a sac on them next week
She just picked out like 2 questions from each exercise and told us to do them
-
wow....that fast......hmmmm that's actually insane.....is it? or is it reli that easy??....(again physics is not my forte)
-
lol no dont think its easy enough to do 2 chapters in 2 lessons -.-
-
10 is year 10 physics. 12 is just vectors all over again?
-
lol no dont think its easy enough to do 2 chapters in 2 lessons -.-
Yeah definetely not easy enough to do in 2 lessons... explains why everyone who didn't work ahead on the holidays are lost
-
On a somewhat related note, I haven't opened my further book all year :P
-
Just wondering, what's the range of raw scores I'd be looking at if I got somewhere between 3 high As and 3 low A+s?
-
To actually answer the OP......
A little to the left. ::)
-
Just wondering, what's the range of raw scores I'd be looking at if I got somewhere between 3 high As and 3 low A+s?
Probably between ~36-42 depending on your ranking and cohort (Assuming you had a raw SAC grade, rather than moderated) ..

Thanks. My cohort only has 3 people in it though, so does that make ranking more or less important?

out of intrest, y are you doing further?

much much much lower, it's basiclaly all on how YOU do on ur exam if there's that few ppl.....

School says: " :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: YOU HAVE TO DO ANOTHER SUBJECT :tickedoff: :tickedoff:"
I say: " Ok. Further thanks."
"But thats a year 12 sub?!?!?! :police: -> :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:"/me *SIGH*
-
lol, love the explanation martoman :)
-
Wait, @martoman, if you want to start uni next year [not impossible], where is English?
If not, I'm going to assume you'll want to do a uni extension program with melbourne or monash, sadly only 3 maths can count in your ENTER, so you are going to have to do extension chemistry?
-
*Cries*.
I'll only have to do 2. I think i'll be able to whinge sufficiently to get off the hook, otherwise, I'll threaten to take up VCAL. That will get the school sufficiently whipped into gear I'd think to show a more positive case to VCAA on behalf of me :smitten:

Why? You can take a single English subject with Chisholm or another TAFE (CAE/Homesglen/Box Hill Institute, etc) and only enrol in one subject. Epic bludge [which means you *should* spend a lot of time writing essays and stuff]
For those who remember, the prodigious Jesse did that, though none of us have heard from her for a while now.
-
You also forget I am incredibly lazy so if I do that i won't be interested in the content at all.
-
So we've now finished the course, on to practice exams we go...
Anyone else there or thereabouts?
-
Yeah, almost finished mechanics.
-
*starting* mechanics
