Title: End of year lectures (get bound reference free)
Post by: 98.40_for_sure on July 23, 2010, 09:13:24 pm
There are many posters lying around advertising end of year lectures, that go for a whole day, going through the whole course and exam style questions, and most offer a free bound reference which contains fully worked solutions and the whole course relevant info to be used in exam 2.

I don't know which ones to go to, and which ones are not worth it... some cost $30~ and some $90~

Any thoughts? I went to tsfx unit 3 lecture for $95... was the biggest waste of money and time, learnt nothing at all, notes sucked

Im thinking of going for chem, methods and spesh, possibly english (although can't see how that would help much, as the only way to get better is to practice essays?)

Personally, I would have thought English to be more beneficial than science/maths lectures. Mainly because you can get new ideas on the themes of the books and what to write about in your essays. From what I've seen of my friends' bound references, it seems to me they are just the equivalent of a text book and a few practice exams. Good knowledge of the concepts should be enough to do well...
As for me... I'm too busy playing cod to go to one anyway!

TSFX methods did modulous graphs to death. Something I liked.

Yeah TSFX just spammed heaaaps of questions. Which was both good and bad. Good for exposure, though most were, honestly, quite plain. But bad because of how boring and costly it is.

I would recommend Derrick Ha's lectures.

ok, srsly for maths i would most definitely go with tsfx....i know i'm a massive tsfx fan but still....

ok, given irena is pretty shite at chem, but tsfx's maths lectures are way better. I really think it would be near impossible to find a better set of notes that are as well organised as tsfx's are and irena is actually very good at methods. Their spech lecturers are also pretty good. I have been taught by one of them at my school for a term and well.....ok, ireson is a bit of a dud.....but still..... tsfx is the way to go :)

Lol i've been thinking of derrick ha, as he actually gives you a "book" to use as bound ref. and 5+ people makes it only $79 pp

ive got deep hatred of tsfx since i went to that unit 3 chem lecture

Lies... it was horrible. I could have learnt 10000000x the amount of stuff if i just stayed home and studied. I almost died in that stupid theatre with that irena chick blabbing on about useless stuff

you get a book from tsfx too....and EVEN IF the notes are of the same quality (there's no was tsfx's notes would be worse than anyone else's) you get a HELL of a lot more.....

lol, yea, well tru, irena can get a bit dull.....but trust me, if we had got byron, we would've been awake the ENTIRE time and enjoying it

DERRICK HA GOT 99.95, TSFX got... OLD PEOPLE

Nothing wrong with being Old! Irena has completed tertiary degrees, has years and years of teaching experience and knowledge and has authored many textbooks. Don't underestimate the benefits of experience-you should give them a go

in fairness, if 99.95 really dosen't like irena (who he/she had already given a go) then that fine, i'm just saying that 99.95 should'nt let his/her opinion of the chem lectures affect the perception of their maths lectures, which, in my opinion are very good

Why even ask? pretty obvious where 99.95's going/not going anyway 8)

I personally don't like Irena's chem and I had her for that free methods one which wasn't too grand either but I'm willing to try if tram endorses it so ;D

I actually went to a few of the free lectures at the start of the year, and ALL of them were HORRIBLE... i guess it's just bad experiences with tsfx, although i haven't been to any maths ones. scared to take my chances

The fee per lecture, is that for a single subject or for both methods and spesh?

One lecture = one subject = one payment

Thus two subjects would be two lectures and twice the payment :)
