Title: A+ cutoff
Post by: LFTM on July 31, 2010, 05:50:20 pm
Results are nearly here and Im freakin out.
How will the stuff up by VCAA (unit 4 question) affect the A+ cut off do you think? Low 80s maybe?

im gonna guess 82 but i pray that its around 75

My money is on 77~83 out of 90... this year, the cut-off(s) may differ more since everyone in the state is guaranteed 4 marks... based on that 'Sundry Creditor' question, [on the assumption that everyone attempted the paper.]

With everyone (apparently) getting full marks for the sundries question I think the cut off will be about 82/83 out of 90.
MBA.

can you get a statement of marks (if thats the name of the one that you can see how many marks you got on an exam) for your mid-year mark, or do you have to wait until the end of year to look at it?

LOL.

whenever the word 'exam' or 'result' is mentioned... I think of the answers I could have got wrong... ah well... what's done is done... just hope for best! (aiming for A and above)! :) can someone explain to me, how say the 'high' A's... 'low' A's...'low' A+'s... etc. work? does getting say... 'low' A... mean you can't get 40 as a SS?... what's the lowest grade ppl can get for the mid-year exam... to get a score of 40+ (generally speaking)... or would that depend on the end-of-year exam as well?

Good luck guys! :D

The FIFO question did me in. what type of question was that?!

"Explain why businesses adopt the FIFO cost assignment method.   2 marks." :@

i definitely lost two marks there..FIFO is the only cost assignment method we were taught so how are we meant to know.

I wrote ensures highest profitability (my assumption is due to inflation pressures, cost of sales will increase marginally with every few purchases so therefore expenses increase over time) but I doubt that's right... its complete crap xD

Yep, agreed. :\ obviously this year's exam writer(s) won't be writing next year's paper... too many stuff ups. ;D

LOL. I got to keep my exam paper... I calculated roughly what I would get *estimated*... what would a 72~73 (lol. conservatism - worst result possible... I think.) out of 90 be as a letter grade? maybe a low A+/high A or am I being too generous on myself? :P

I'm not sure about the low A scenario but if you get a high A you can definitely still get 40+ providing you have a good sac ranking and you get a mid-high A+ for end of year.

If the statistics are found to be roughly similar then last years, a 73 would be a bare A (low A) however if you can somewhat manage to do extremely well on the exam, a 40 can still be a likelihood

ok. do extremely well... as in... the end-of-year exam... :)

Interesting Fact: A lecturer - who teaches at Fintona, I think (who marked this year's papers) that I went too over the holidays, was like... students will have better chance on the Unit 4 exam then the Unit 3 exam since most people who get 'crap' marks... like epically fail... give up on Accounting altogether.

yeah my teacher said students tend to improve on their unit 3 results(the ones that try).

What is happiness?

... Happiness is that feeling you get... when all the hard work and study pays off... all for that one mark/grade (which may differ), that each of us desires.

[That's just me though...]
:D

What is happiness?

To me, happiness is the essence of life.
It is the motivator and purpose of life.

i cannot honestly believe that i lost more than 12 marks. I was absolutely convinced that the max marks i would lose would be 8. FML!!! no chance of 40 with an A. Back to my depressive state :(

wow it has the lowest A+ cutoff for the current study design and everyone got free 4 marks already!

hope my A+ isn't too low >.<

I hope the end of year exam has a even lower A+ cut off.

the lower the A+ cut off the harder it is to get 40+ yea? correct me if im wrong

A+ just means top 10%, so as long as a student maintain top 10% for the exams, it doesn't really matter if the A+ cutoff is high or low.
HOWEVER, a higher cut off means it's easier for students to catch up in the next exam if he is behind.

LOL. most of this year's mid-year exams have been harder than previous years... the cut-off for an A+ in Biology was also really low... 59/75.

I'd think so. Although you might need a high A+ in either the end-of-year exam or your SAC marks... just to be sure of getting 45.
