How did you guys go? Got B+
-
A+, honestly thought i wouldn't make it.
Does anyone know when the assessment report will be out?
-
B, anyone know what the estimated study score is with that grade >.< and what i have to get from now on to get a A or an A+?
-
Arghhhhh :( i got an A, better be a high A
-
fml man
-
i got an A so happy :D
congrats everyone else :)
-
B+, Rank One isn't looking to good at the moment considering there were plenty of others with A's and A+'s in my class
-
so dissapointed man i'm aiming for a 45 raw as well :(

At least you still have a chance at a 40
-
I got 'A'... I'm pleased. :) basically everyone got 'A's in my class... and the few people who didn't... got A+'s....
though it sucks that I don't know whether it's a high or low 'A'. ==' I got the "Application for Statement of Marks." - I'm sending my application to the VCAA.
-
Congratulations to all of you, I got a B+ it just goes to show that I will be needing more effort in November in order to get at least 91.35 !
-
A+ cut off mark must've been pretty high
-
A+ cut off mark must've been pretty high
What do you think it was?
-
i hope it was like 84/85 or even higher so then my A wouldn't look so bad
-
naved what did you get? A+ right?
-
I reckon a low A+ would have been 79~82 out of 90. so anything above 82, I think, would be a high A+.
-
I was quite suprised when i saw the A+.
This really motivates me to study hard for the rest of the year. If i got an A or below, i'm pretty my mood would go down the hill and won't have any mood to study.
-
A+
I'm so happy!!! I honestly thought i wouldn't get it. Heaps of people in my class got A's and A+'s. I hope the A+ cutoff was high :D
-
thought i did so well....i hope the A+ cutoff was really really high
-
When do we get to see the thing that shows us the cut off?
-
A+
I'm so happy!!! I honestly thought i wouldn't get it. Heaps of people in my class got A's and A+'s. I hope the A+ cutoff was high :D
Gratz.
Yeah same, i hope cutoff for A+ is like 84/90.
-
A+ yewww. When someone gets their statement of results it has the cutoff.

Doubt it, i am pretty sure i lost at least 6 marks.

A+

If I got A for the mid-year exam... what could I now get as my maximum study score... 45 or 46?.. or does that depend on my 'A' being low or high... as well my end-of-year exam?
Thanks. :)
-
45 would be very difficult. If you got a high A and absolutely killed everything else (High A+ on sacs and Unit 4 Exam) you might scrape 45.

I'm not sure what's the maximum you can get, but last year a guy from my school got an A for midyear and ended up with a 43 raw study score.

-
LOL. 15 'A+'s.
That's really good. I'd like to extend my congratulations to those who got A+. GOOD JOB! :P

But you'd have to ace the next exam completely... like lose 1-2 marks maximum. Also your SACs would have to be incredible. So you've got some hard work to do for that 45 :p
-
what would i need for my end of year to get a 40 raw now that i know my mid year mark is A(lets say a high A). A high A+ or would a low-mid A+ be good enough
-
2 out of 3 end of year exams were harder than the midyears, so it's a good time to catch up on some marks in the end of year.
-

I would say mid A+ for SACs and end of year exam would be fine.
-
I don't think you could get a 45 with a high A. Low 40's is definitely possible though.
I got an A+ too, pretty pleased but really want to see my exact score to see what exactly my mark is.

Yeah same, i'm considering buying the statement of marks.. does it tell the cut-off for the grades?
-
Yeah it does, but they are released soon anyway.
I have no idea whether a statement of marks would be beneficial for me....if its a low A+ i might be pissed and may become negative towards the subject, but if its high my situation doesnt really change at all. It probably won't make me study any more or less, so it kinda seems like a lose-lose (or loss-loss? ahha) situation.
But i am so damn curious

True.
I guess i can already tell what marks i'm sitting at by looking back at the exam questions.
-
Yeah i've tried that but it's the theory that you can't be sure. Hope they are a bit lenient!
-
i hope it was like 84/85 or even higher so then my A wouldn't look so bad
no chance, i dropped more than 6 marks

what's the percentile, if you get ~45 or higher as your SS...? is that like top 5% or something in the state?
-
Top 2%, very competitive.
-
i'm so sad only got a C+ :( what do i need to do get around a 35 in accounting now?
-
Just giving an estimated indication of the cut-off for A+.
I just looked back at the exam questions and i lost atleast 4 marks.
-
Congrats everyone :)
Remember, don't get complacent/depressed. Keep working, it's not over yet!

very true! :)

Is the only way to find out whether we got a low or high [grade] is to send to the "Statement of Marks"?

Yeah pretty much.
it costs 8 bucks >.<
-
Pulled out an A+ (only person in my school LOL!). Time to get cracking on Unit 4 guys. Keep up the good work!
-
LOL. I'm stingy! 8 bucks... :( gosh, why do the VCAA make us pay to see OUR results in detail. =='

nice, you got awesome study scores from last year as well.

Thanks mojomojo and EPL.11.4ever. Trying really hard this year at the expense of my social life. I hope it will be worth it.

Yeah, I might. just see if my A was high or low... motivation for the Unit 4 exam. :D
-
So what exactly does it tell you? The statement of marks I mean.
-
according to the VCAA website, the Statement of Marks "consist of the marks the student obtained and the maximum available marks for each question or criterion of a paper or performance."
-
I'm also thinking of getting a statement of marks because i have no clue on how harshly they marked the theory questions, but i am certain i lost at least 6 marks.
Do i have to have a credit card to pay, it says at the bottom credit card payments only for fax.
I really have no clue on how this works even though i've asked this question somewhere else on this forum, do you guys think the person at the post office will be able to help me out?
TIA

I've already got the application form, I'm just not sure with how to pay it, someone said i pay at the post office but do i just pay in cash or do i have to use a credit card?
sorry if this comes across as a stupid question.

Hmmm i'm not sure too.
I'm thinking of getting it, but if it takes ages to recieve it then nahhhhhhhhhh.

A statement of marks sets out each question, the marks available for each question and the mark you received for each question.
It also tells you the mark needed for an A+ if you got an A+, A if you got an A etc.
I.e:
Question Marks Available Score Obtained
1(a)i. 2 2
Total 90 85
Then it will say "Final score of .... from a maximum of 90 for which you were awarded the grade of ....
The A+ grade range is 82 to 90". <<<Example, don't really know if it is 82.
------
I like getting a statement of marks for curiosity sakes, thats just me though and everyone is
different. It is good to know your exact mark as this can give you a general idea of
what study score one should be aiming for.
------
You can pay by either credit card, cheque or money order. Money order is probably
the easist for most. To get one you just go to your local Aus Post shop and they
produce them. It costs a small fee like a $1 or something. Then just post the form
with the M/O enclosed and you usually get the SOM back very quickly.
MBA.

-
Well I got a 34 in methods with B+ average on exam, so with your C+, you're looking at a good A+ in the end of year and that will get you a 35
-
i got a B+ on my exam, good score but I wasn't under prepared for an A+ just stuffed up the exam. I was ranked equal 1st, in a pretty strong cohort..
quite a few people got an A, and 2 A+'s in my school.
I was averaging A to A+'s on difficult SACS...
If I perform well on end of year can I Still get a decent score?

What's your definition of a decent score?
My friend got a B+ in midyear and got an A+ in end of year and he got 36 raw score.
SACs mark is entirely based on your ranking.

Yeah same, half of my class got A/A+'s.
By the way, how long does it take for the statement of mark to come back? I posted it like two days ago.
-
out my Accounting class... 10~12 out of 20 or so students got A+... and rest, like me got A. no one in my class got lower than an A... :o

I am yet to see Vermont SC Year 12 jacket... :o CGS, makes students pay if they want to buy a limited 'special' Year 12 jacket... though this year's design was horrible!

Yeah not that strong. there wasn't many A+'s.. But there was 15 A's
I'm just looking for about 36 SS
-
if i got an A on my midyear then say a B on my end of year with A's for SAC's, roughly what study score would i get
low to mid 30s. (just guessing)
May also depend on how high the A for the midyear is. And why aim so low for end of year if you did well on midyear?
-
That would be around 34 if both the A and B are not high or low (i.e. in the middle)
-
I probably have already asked this question :P... but... If I got an A for mid-year... A [high]/A+ [low] for SACs... and A+ [mid/high] for the end-of-year exam... what SS would I be looking at?
I thought between 38~41 {raw score}? Also, does Accounting scale up... like if I got 39 [raw]... would that be 40 scaled... if I got 40 [raw]... would that be scaled to 41 etc?
What sort of grades would I need to be getting to obtain a score of 40 or higher (going off the previous year ~ 2009)? :P
Thanks. :)

if you get a 39, it's roughly 40 (39 -> 39.8 last year) and so on, so yes.
What sort of grades would I need to be getting to obtain a score of 40 or higher (going off the previous year ~ 2009)? Tongue
From what you said before, that sounds about right (A A+ A+)

LOL. Yeah, generally it takes 3-4 days... if you pay by credit card. I honestly don't know why it hasn't come yet... don't worry, didn't you get an A+ anyway?... what's there to worry? :P ... unless you want to find your exact score out of 90... :D

I didn't pay by credit card, i got the guy at the post office to do a money order for me so that might be why. I'm just curious to know what i got out of 90 even though i'm preety sure it was a low A+ and also it would be annoying if it never came cos i paid and everything.

(+61 9651 4300) I don't know if this helps you, but you may as well call if you really wanna see what has happened to your Statement of Marks [letter]...

re this years exam, what would be considered a high A+?
I'm assuming 86 and above.
-
72 for me :(
-
85.5 :S
-
72 for me :(
bad luck... right on the cut-off mark for an A. :( I got 74.
-
85.5 :S
LOL. that score is REALLY GOOD! I'd say it's a mid-high A+. :P
-
85.5 :S
Congrats, that's an awesome score.
I got 80, what do i need to get on the unit 4 exam to get 42-43? I have a good sac ranking too.

I'd say you need a mid-high A+ for the Unit 4 exam just to be sure of getting 42~43 + also maintain good marks for SACs (be near the top of your class) and hope that your cohort will push your SAC marks up.
QUESTION: ALSO, when do we find out our study score (after we've done the Unit 4 exam)... would it be in late January?

hey thanks. lol, i was just kinda annoyed at where i lost the marks..
i'm pretty sure we get our study scores in mid december :)
-
LOL. kk. I was way off... mid December?... sweet. (I didn't think our results came back that early considering how long it took for the mid-year scores to be released.) :)

13th december at 7 am to be exact :)
1 day b4 my birthday! XD

A+ = top 10%... so if 90% of those 10% got low A+ (close to an A), then a low A+ can still get 45? :O
Correct me if i'm wrong.

85.5 :S

Correct me if i'm wrong.
45+ is the top 2% of the state, so a high A+ is necessary on both exams to get 45.

Yeah, but what if only 1% of the state got high A+?
-
I do see where youre coming from, and statistically it makes sense. But i'd say more than 1% of the state get high A+. A high A+ being like 86-87+. I think it's just the nature of the subject that about 1% of people get perfect or very close.
But you never know! May as well stay positive. Anything can happen, it was a hard exam.

What would be a mid A+?
-
For arguments sake, my guess would be:
low 78-81, mid 82-85, and high 86-90.
-
got really low A+.. 79/90.. was 1-2 marks off getting an A LOL
sac ranking somewhere near the middle-top, although my class has alot of smart kids (everyone besides 2 people in our class got A+)
would it be possible to get above 40 if I tried really hard on end of year? around where?
-
I'd imagine if you got the same as your first exam, you'd get the 40 you're wanting.
-
I'd imagine if you got the same as your first exam, you'd get the 40 you're wanting.
Actually... 3 low A+ can get a 39.. which means he has to get a mid to high A+ in the end of year exam to get a 40.
-
sorry :p shouldve mentioned.
i'm actually a 'she' hahahah.
my sacs are alright, i'd say around A+ (maybe). got a low A+ for mid year.. so now im gonna work my ass off to get better than 90% (hopefully better than 95% even) for my end of year exam. thanks for the replies! :)
-
Meh. Most people here had As and A+s :(
No possible way to get 40+ if I got a B then? :buck2:

I'm no expert... but I would say that you probably couldn't get 40+ with a B in the mid-year exam. Unless... you do REALLY, REALLY well on the rest of your Unit 4 SACs (top rank in the class/cohort) and same goes for the Unit 4 exam (ace it!) - which may then give you an outside chance of getting 40 or higher... though that's just me... I'm unsure though... since, I haven't heard anyone get 40+ with a B in the mid-year exam. - But like I said that's just me... :S (If anyone would like to correct me on that, feel free.)
Good Luck with the rest of the year! :)
-
Called up VCAA and asked them where my statement of marks is, and they said that they'd have a look and ring me back. Three days later, no response.
*sigh*
Still waiting...

WHEN did you send it?... the Application for Statement of Marks...?
AS I found out, it can take between 3 days to a WEEK before it arrives. :P

I sent it on the 11th of August (roughly).

I have been Doing well with my sacs. Pretty much aced all of it except this mid year.-_- I will work hard though. I've started practicing exams since we've pretty much finished budgeting. But if there is really a chance to get 40+ if I ace my next one then that's enough to motivate me
And thanks :)
-
I also only scraped an A+ 81/90... If i get the same end of year and do well in sacs what will i be likely to get?

I'm in a similar position to you, i just scraped in for A+ (80/90) and i think i may be rank 1. I'm guessing low 40s, maybe even 39~42.
Can someone confirm.

My statement of marks took 8 days to come.
87.5 :)

GOOD JOB!
LOL. how can you you get half-marks in Accounting?.. my friend got 88.5/90... he claimed that one examiner gave him 88 while the other gave him 89. :P
-
thanks! Yeah same thing happened to me, for a theory question out of 3 one of the examiners gave me 2 and the other gave me 3. I guess one just didn't like my explanation quite as much as the other haha.
-

LOL. I didn't know that the VCAA gave half-marks in Accounting. DOES your 87.5/90 round up or anything?... or does it remain as 175/180...
-
Yeah it's just 175/180. There is no half marks when you think about it, i mean we like to consider it in relation to the actual amount of marks on the exam but they only ever consider it out of 180, so yeah my mark is 175. Which i was pleasantly surprised with.
-
You guys got amazing results. =]
-
they give half marks????
-
No they don't give half marks, it occurs when the marks given by the examiners (always whole numbers) differ by an odd number, when marked out of 90, eg one examiner gives 90 and one gives 89, and the average is 89.5/90. However any mark out of 90 doubled will be even and therefore there will never be a .5 in the mark out of 180.
-
HOW many times does an EXAM get marked?.. does the one exam paper get marked twice by 2 different exam-markers?...
-

Yes. Then they combine the marks.

GOT MY STATEMENT OF MARKS!!!
:( 85/90
Mid A+?
I was hoping for 45+ in Accounting, so how many marks can I lose in Unit 4 exam and still get above 45.
I'm guessing 50 is probably out of the question now LOL.

85/90 is an awesome mark! Probably not possible to get 50 even if you got full marks on the EOY but you can definitely get a 45.
What is your rank like and how strong is your cohort? These both also help to determine your study score.
-
JUST out of interest, what is a SS of 40 [or higher] be equivalent to... in terms of grades?... would that be two low A+s for the mid-year and end-of-year exam and at least an A+ for SAC marks?
IF someone could clarify, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. :)

Three low A+'s will guarantee you a 38+ study score.
For a study score of 40 on the dot you'd probably be looking at low A+'s and a mid A+ for one of the exams
-
seeming as though i got a B on my mid year
what do i need to get on my end of year exam to get a SS of 33?
-
Low-Mid A should be enough for a 33

I was the only person in my school to get an A+, and I'm rank 1 by like 20 marks.
What SS would I get if I got full marks on the Unit 4 exam (considering 85/90 [btw, is this a mid-A+?] for Unit 3 and Rank 1 for SACs)?

Do people normally get higher on their end of year exam?
-
Do people normally get higher on their end of year exam?
YEP, according to a lecturer I went to this year... he said that GENERALLY (this may not always happen - but more than likely does) students who at least put in the effort for Unit 4 (as they did Unit 3)... will do better in the end-of-year exam than the mid-year exam, because the students who obtained 'crap' grades like... epically fail... fall off and give up on Accounting all together, thus increasing the likelyhood of doing BETTER in the end-of-year exam. :P
-
Do people normally get higher on their end of year exam?
My teacher said students tend to improve.
-
WOULDN'T that mean the cut-off for an A+ would be higher...? :o
-
True, but think about it. We have like 4 other subjects to study for :( I'm so screwed.
-

I suppose I should count myself as lucky then, since this is my only 3/4 subject as I'm in Year 11...
-
WOULDN'T that mean the cut-off for an A+ would be higher...? :o
yeah, wasn't the cutoff for last years unit 4 exam higher than the unit 3 exam. Or did it have to do with difficulty?

yeah, wasn't the cutoff for last years unit 4 exam higher than the unit 3 exam. Or did it have to do with difficulty?
YEP, the cut-off for an A+ in LAST YEAR'S Unit 4 Exam was 81/90 as opposed to this year's mid-year exam which was 78/90 (LAST YEAR'S mid-year exam cut-off for an A+ was 79.) It may have been due to it's difficulty... it probably was really easy...
LOL. in 2008 the cut-off for an A+ was in the Unit 4 Exam was 75/90... meaning that it was harder...
Thus, I reckon were bound for a harder exam this year, going off the trend in previous years.

THAT's unlucky. so close to being an A+. still 77/90 is a good score to build on for the end-of-year exam. :)

Damn, so close but yet so far. Really unlucky man. Good luck on Unit 4 exam!
-
WHAT do people think the cut-off for an A+ for the end-of-year exam will be?..
I'll start... I reckon (based off nothing!) that it will be 79~81/90. [somewhere in that area.]
Thoughts? :P
-
Thanks guys
I hope i can still get that 40 i wanted, must study hard and try get A+ for the end :)

VERY TRUE. remember getting a high A - 77/90 (as in your case) doesn't mean you can't get 40 or higher. Your still very much in with a chance of getting 40+ and if you get a A+ for the end-of-year exam and your SAC grade is pretty good, then there is no reason why you can't get 40.
Good Luck. :)

The cut offs for end of year exams are usually lower.. so i guess it would be 76/90. :P
-
LOL. really?! sweet... I thought it would be higher... going off LAST YEAR'S end-of-year exam, where the cut-off for an A+ was higher than the mid-year's...
76/90 is pretty low... meaning that the exam is bound to be difficult. :\
-
wasn't the 2008 end of year exam really hard?

wasn't the 2008 end of year exam really hard?
YEP, the cut-off for an A+ in the 08' Unit 4 EXAM was 150/180 (75/90)...
-
I reckon the end-of-year exam will be easy~difficult... LOL. as in somewhere in between... according to my Accounting teacher, he said that LAST YEAR was the first year where the formulas for stuff like Asset Turnover, NPR etc. (those formulas for Profitability and Liquidity) weren't given to students and yet students did better (overall) than in previous years.
-
I hope it would be WAYYYY harder than the mid year one.

LOL. I just realised that there was a option on the poll to vote "I didn't sit the exam"... and 35 people voted for it, the most...
I reckon the exam will have one of those hard-core "Cash v. Profit" QUESTIONS, where you have to identify an item in either the Cash Flow Statement or P/L Statement and explain why the Cash Balance differs from Net Profit. (generally worth 4 marks or something.)
-

LOL. I think so. my Accounting teacher gave us a worksheet which incorporated the Cash v. Profit QUESTION... in relation to BUDGETING and VARIANCE! ==' and I thought that was the end of that question...
THE good thing though is that I have template answer... LOL.
"Under Accrual Accounting, Net Profit is calculated by comparing revenues earned against expenses incurred in the current reporting period. While the business' Cash Balance is calculated by subtracting cash payments from cash receipts, thus, the two are shown to be different"...(then give examples and explain.)
worked. for. me.

I did that in the unit 3 exam and one examiner gave me 4 marks while the other gave me 3. I thought i answered it perfectly.

Unit 3 seems so far ago... Unit 4 in comparison, I'm finding is somewhat easier to a degree. I'm hoping that there will be a page or so, dedicated just to Variance Reports on the Unit 4 exam... LOL, they're so easy!

Haha i guess they're easy but also easy to make mistakes on. So many numbers!
-
LOL. yeah, they can get confusing sometimes... :P
Cash Inflows, Cash Outflows etc... Revenues, Expenses... LOL. I saw on an exam paper, a business budgeted for a negative expense (___) i.e. Customs Duty and ended up paying like $2000!

Is there still a chance of getting over 40 if I got an A?
-
Is there still a chance of getting over 40 if I got an A?
Yer there is.
However you do need a High A+.
My friend got an A in the midyear, A+ on end of year and got a 38.
To get a 40+ I reckon you'd need an 83-85/90 if the the cutoff were to be like this midyear's of 77.
Good Luck

-
I'd also say it depends on your SAC grade/mark, although, in saying that, yes, the mid-year and end-of-year exam count for more than SACs.
