So I thought Id copy and paste it here cause it was pretty popular there =)
What VCE subjects is everybody doing this year and how are you finding them... and which 3/4 did you guys do last year (and what did u get )
I just wanna know this out of curiousity
Well to get things started my set of VCE subjects this year are
Methods - probably my hardest subject
Psychology 3/4 - a lot of memorising but not too bad
Physics - im finding it pretty difficult ......
English- issues and other stuff, aint too bad.... we have an oral soon ... not much work
Legal - AWESOME!!! and we talk about news for 20 mins of every class so that just makes it more interesting/bludgy
Moderator action: Removed caps from title
-
Methods - it is also one of my hardest subjects
Latin - the second of my hardest subjects
Legal - good, can be interesting as well as boring
Revolutions - most of the time interesting, but the note taking is a biatch...my notes are already about 12,000 words :S
Eng Language - the best!!!!! it's a lot of fun :D
Uni Hist - mediocre
International Studies in '07 - got 37 :( i was aiming for a 40...oh well....

Is international studies good? I wanted to do it, but my school doesn't run it?
-
My subjects:
English - hard
Maths Methods - horribly hard
Literature - lots of work but really interesting (especially lit parties - eating lots of chocolate is fun)
Renaissance - really interesting but of course lots of note-taking
National Politics - really interesting and a bit bludgy (Score!)
Last I did Revolutions and didn't work as hard as I should have throughout the year and didn't really prepare at all for the end of year exam. SS - 35
-

-
My Subs:
English - teacher's an ass urgh.
Economics - :D AWESOME. Srsly this subject pwns all. Period.
Specialist - Also exxxtremely fun. Same, if not better than econ.
Methods- Iz Cool.
Eco = Spec > Methods > English.
-
English - Not to bad.. not my best subject though
Business - Best subject, very easy..
IT Applications - The work is not hard but the teacher is very bad, can be boring
Studio Arts - Easy but HEAPS of work
Further - Very easy, it's like doing year 10 maths again
Business > Studio Arts > Further > English > IT Applications
-
Literature - Really enjoy, one of my better subjects
Physics - So far its been easy, although i'm probably speaking to soon.
Chemistry - Have good days and bad days, Not to bad though
Methods - Probably hardest subject but its been ok so far.
Did Accounting and texts and traditions last year. Happy with texts as i got higher than expected doing little work. Accounting, dissapointed as i was aiming for 40 but you can't come much closer than i did. I learnt alot from doing these subjects early.
-
English - probably my better subject if not best
Accounting - my fave subject expect to do well
Economics - really hate this subject very boring
Media - good subject i find it similar to english in a way, pretty easy
Further Maths - easy subject but must be careful in not making stupid mistakes
Like iamdan08 said i have also learnt alot from my 3/4 last year legal studies, so i expect this will help me with this year
-

Maths - Hate..hoping to get at least 30 but not very likely
French - Hardish....especially coz I hate speaking it lol
Music - Fun and pretty easy, except for the aural component
Biology - Love, favourite subject, hard but worth it
-
especially coz I hate speaking it lol
LOL that's a worry..
-
Economics - really hate this subject very boring
Lol then why did you choose it? Surely you would've known what it would be like having done the 1/2??
-

LOL that's a worry..
I know. I like reading it, listening to others, writing etc....I just don't have a lot of confidence when it comes to speaking.
But I figure since I've been learning french since yr 7 I might as well stick it out. And it does scale nicely.

Me and clinton are doing economics this year, but we didn't do it in year 11. This is the first year that it has run at our school.
-
economics is one the most interesting subjects you could ever do, how one finds it boring is wow
-
American history is really interesting, shame it isn't a VCE subject.

Yes it is. But it's just the revolutions part. :)
It was interesting, but not as interesting as French history, or Italian (as I'm studying now - which is awesome! Go the Medici, the Godfathers of the Renaissance!)
-
Our teacher showed us the Godfather film. It was so violent but very relevant. I also remember the Untouchables as well. Do they do much American history in revolutions? American history at my school is an elective in year 10. Theres two, Gangsters or Independance and slaves.

I suppose if you had a shit teacher then it could be REALLY BORING.
GUESS WHAT EVERYONE!!! We have a NEW economics teacher and shes FANTASTIC. She is WOW. She was on Temptation. (She has been part time/subbing for our school for a while but then she got sick and was in hospital for 6 weeks but now shes fine and teaching).
So she's job sharing for me in Acc and Eco. At first I was a bit tentative to think of how two teachers would work but it actually seems really positive because both are great =)
-
I'm doing:
English - relatively boring, but I quite like discussing books and stuff. It's the language analysis that I hate.
Specialist maths - interesting and good fun :D
Chemistry - ahh probably the subject I am least confident with.
History Revs - we're doing French and Russian, and I think it's awesome!
Did Methods and Biology in year 11 and did Chinese (SL) in year 10. Got study scores of 42, 46 and 45 respectively, but I'm not expecting my performance for this year to be anywhere near that :-( Biology was the most awesome subject, I think it's probably my favourite subject out of all 7 I'm doing/have done for VCE. I miss it heaps :P

I have the same teacher for Further and IT: Applications, she is the WORST teacher I have ever had in my school life. There has been numerous complaints from both classes and the co-ord comes into our class saying we shouldn't give her grief.. he just sticks up for her. We have to report to the principal on how she is going so HOPEFULLY she gets the boot.. but.. the principal doesn't seem like he will take action!!
We have 10 Further classes and I seemed to get the worst teacher out of all (I can't swap into other classes either) :(

no, i'd suggest not doing that. changing teacher in year 12 can be highly disastrous. similar thing happened last year with my ITA class, the result was we were massively behind, and the school didnt have a chance to find a good experienced IT teacher to take the class for the rest of the year. overall it was a bad idea. i suppose you should just learn to stick with this teacher, its better not to risk everything.

Yeah, but it would be appropriate for her to teach Year 11 Further and ITA.. there is two IT classes the other one is mixed yr11/12 so it would be best for her to teach that class and move all the year 12's into one class with the other teacher (who is good).. I wouldn't care if there were two many students as long as I actually get taught properly..
I'd be happy... if a teacher came into our class that was fresh from Uni.. I wouldn't care.. i just want a teacher who is fluent in english.. my teacher isn't and thats what makes it hard.. :@

from that i'm assuming those yr11 are also doing ITA 3/4
which then i have to say thats quite an unfair comment. their education isnt any less worthy than yours, and they deserve quality education just as much as you do. This proposal also puts added pressure on the "good" IT teacher.
I think you should organise a group of eager and sensible students, and sit down to have a forum with this particular teacher. (forum as in discussion). talk about how you'd like to be taught, how she can improve, what styles you prefer, what you find inadequate, and do it professionally.
approaching these problems maturely usually have very positive results, and the teacher would appreciate it a lot more than "bloody kids complaining". criticizing teachers (i have learnt the hard way at the cost of my ITA score) is really not the way to go. there are always better ways to deal with this kind of issues.
-
there was a crap chem teacher at my school so the grade complained and they got a better teacher. yay!
-
There has been a crap (include judgemental and bigoted as well) English teacher at Melbourne High School for ages. I don't know why she isn't gone yet.
-

The year 11 students are doing unit 1/2 it's a combined class. I wasn't saying their education is less worthy than mine, however, I do believe that year 12s do need to have some sort of 'higher' priority when it comes to teachers. More experienced teachers should teach year 12s and the lesser should teach year 11s. My teacher came from NSW and last year was her first year teaching the VCE system, whereas, the other teacher has been teaching for years and has taught numerous 40+
It's just frustrating when you get such a bad teacher in the year that matters the most. I'm positive in my work ethic but the style that the teacher uses is ridiculous ...
-
1/2 mixed with 3/4? =\
what kind of system is that =S
-
it's like that in my studio arts class, the year 11's are divided into one half of the room.. we do the same sort of work, it works alright.. it's not possible to have 1/2 with 3/4 in subjects like maths or business but it just works with studio arts and IT as the stuff is basically the same.
-
I know of a 1/2 and 3/4 Literature class combined.
-

we had that for french last year (not enough people to run it separately)
-
yeah tell me about it, one of them was a dux and got 33 raw for french i mean come on

Is her name Ms. Basu (sp?), by any chance?
-
You are not incorrect!
-
i have a unit 1/2 and 3/4 combined class for economics. I dont recommend it, but the teacher does p;ace more importance on the yr 12's which is good to see
-
Hmmm, that would be a bit awkward... is it luck of the draw that you get placed in a mixed class or are there others like it?
-

Lol we had units 1+2 3+4 business management run in the same class... worked well, as some of it was related :)
-

I havn't added my subs to this so here goes!
Renaissance 3/4= Interesting content about the transformation into modern life, really great sub, time seems to go past quickly here though it requires a lot of note taking / reading (hopefully 40+)
Eng Lang 3/4= Pretty good, lots of essays needed (Hopefully 40+ raw)
Methods 1/2 = Meh, its OK, not too difficult (40 raw)
Chem 1/2 = PHAILING HARDCORE FOOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKK (30 raw)
Further 1/2 = 2 easy (45+ raw)
English 1/2 = prefer eng lang !!!!
-
My subjects:
2007: Psychology - 30 (Don't ask, didn't study, basically rote learned, lucky to get anything over 20 :P
2008: Italian: My lucky charm. Getting excellent results in SAC's, going to charm the assessor of my oral.... But will ultimately get a C or B in the exam (35 raw)
English: Not too bad. Average is A on SAC's, and am pretty confident about the exam (40 raw)
Legal Studies: Brilliant SAC results.... Won't finish the exam due to poor time management skills (35 raw)
Methods: B+ average... Will die in the exams (30-35 raw)
Specialist: Don't ask... (30 raw is all I want...)
All this may hopefully add up to a 90 study score (If not... TAFE for me :()

-
English- easy and very interesting
Chem- also easy and intersting
Physics-incredibly hard and boring, plus i am in a really crappy class
Spesh- not as hard as expected (i got a tutor which makes it easy)
Methods- doing spesh really helps with methods, espescially calculus section
Revs- did it last year, found it very boring because i took a very "marks orientated" approach to it, you gotta sort of get into to enjoy and do well in it.
Ended up with a 38 which i was happy about it.
-
how come ur not doing French?
-
how come ur not doing French?

Just to let you know, I got A+ in the exam part of chinese and got 34 raw, and all lotes are similar.
