lol guys
honestly . its the key to success in year 12.
dont kill yourself .. but if ur studying hard .. and getting not as good marks as you expect .. go exercise.
first semester i was studying 4-5 hours a night ..
this semester i study 3-4 hours and do vigorous exercise the other hour .. and my sac average has gone up 12% in chem( 86-98) ... psych 3%( 97% now 100%) .. bio stayed the same.
English went up from 78% to 89% ..
im not saying its the ONLY thing u need to do.
obviously ive been studying harder , and know how to study efficiently this semester
but srsly guys
exercise is the key to it
get on it if you dont already ..
1 hour a day .. keeps the bad marks away :D hahah
-
"but it's soo cold outside" XD
but zzz I do need to go exercise since back in year 10 I was a exercise-machine and now my body hates me for putting on weight this year for doing 0 exercise from working the candle at both ends :(
-
"but it's soo cold outside"
-
exercise > study
-
Or... study while exercising? two birds with one stone
eg. reading a textbook whilst pedalling on a bike
-
Gym :smitten: Strength training has been one of my major outlets this year.
Unfortunately Ive had to stop downhill mountain biking until November 11 (for those playing at home, that's the day of the chem exam). I always seem to push myself to hard and crash. Can't afford to break any more bones for a while :-[
-
eew. i dont need no exercise!
-
According to Pink Floyd: "we don't need no education"
-
Exercise is so beneficial, especially if you're in Year 12... it's an outlet for you to get rid of all that tension and all that stress.
According to Pink Floyd: "we don't need no education"
+1
I'm gonna find that song on my playlist now, ha ha.
-
Apparently exercise can increase your haemoglobin count so long story short the more exercise you do, the more effective you use oxygen thus better ability to concentrate (among many other factors)
-
Pink floyd is awesometastic....
Anyway exercise cant hurt it improves your brain and it also fights depression. Im a runner myself and i think its pretty epic but yeah theres really no reason to not exercise if you want to that is..

Working out is just like studying. Work in work out. You also have to know when to rest, when enough is enough. You need to sleep well and eat right to make the best gains and this compliments VCE.
Nitric oxide is also a better stimulant than coffee.

I find nitric oxide doesn't work... and it's frickin expensive
-
I exercise when I do household chores. Since no one can see...
I dance like hell. :2funny:

According to Pink Floyd: "we don't need no education"
double negative, so yes, we need education
-
"but it's soo cold outside" XD
i second that. its wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too cold. and raining ><
-
If people complains about the cold weather, it is recommended to use wii fit. :coolsmiley:

Correlation does not equal causation ;3

starts to kick in about 30 mins into working out for me. Then the rest of my workout is insane. love the pump.

What do you use? I've only used black powder and superpump 250... superpump worked a little bit, but black powder had no effect
-
SP250. Ive only used it for a couple of weeks. tonight my forearms got so pumped it was painful. I nearly dropped the weights cause my hands were so damn full of 'fatiguing by-products'.
I want to drop a little more bodyfat and then see what its like. Gotta cut again before schoolies, ill test it out just before then. Its going to be insane, i look forward to it.
-
All those supplements are a waste of money, for us anyway. You're what? 17 years old maybe 18, you should have more than enough energy to do a workout at 100%. If you don't, sleep more and eat more.

yeh agreed
im playing under 18;s falcons .. ( BASICLY , the highest level of footy for a young 16 year old)
and i have to do weight training 3 days a week ...
using supplements is stupid if your not working it off 100% .. it just becomes added fat.
and at 17-18 .. its really unnessesary .. your not trying to become a body builder .. and even if you are .. its relatively useless ...
ontop of that .. too much supplements ( and most people dont use them properly) leads to problems with sleeping .. and over time . kidney and liver problems
whats the point? they dont even "ENHANCE" half as well as they are advertised
just my opinion
..
wanna get tank? .. do cardio vascular work .. and weight training
-
I agree that the guys that go out and blow $800 on supps in an attempt to get "massive" are a bit over the top. But if there are 5000000 tubs sitting at home half used, and will never be touched again, why not?
I think my body is not responsive to many supplements such as nitric oxide and creatine, so it feels like a waste. Not to mention creatine tastes like ass.
-
Holy crap a crappy pacman costume on ebay is 150 bucks.. :idiot2:
(haha i just noticed... this was meant to be in the muck up day thread)
-
Well ive been training for 8-9 months and ive spent 300 bucks on supps in that time. None of my own money. I kind of got the SP250 given to me and like i said ive only used it a few times. I have no problem with energy or getting a pump without supps so im not sure if i will renew my supply. The only constant from now on will be what I need for my post workout drinks (whey protein + high-GI carb source)
Falcons weight training if its like any of the other TAC cup clubs is crap for what I want to be. More focused on power, endurance and preventing injury than putting on real size. Not to mention you lot go heavier on bench than you do with squats. Ridiculous. I was reading one program and they were squatting 50kgs for their reps. I can f***** curl that. I guess they need to keep their legs fresh for running/games though so its understandable, just not something for me.
Also cardio wont get you tank. Not if you could be spending that time actually lifting weights.

ok buddy
ill be honest with you here.
spending 300 bucks on supplements is honestly not going to do anything at your age.
your body does not get even CLOSE to burning off all the extra fat and sugar that is in those shakes.
trust me . ive used them before.... all thats gonna happen . is you will become more heavy .. and less toned. but larger arms.
also
the reason we do squats and leg press etc , .. is simply because football has become a very aneorobic sport ( running very heavily for short periods of time without alot of oxygen).
we need strong legs in-order to keep that speed up.
also
the main thing you have to understand.
getting "tank" is not as easy as .. lifting weights , protein shake . rest. and repeat.
that MIGHT make your arms larger in volume. .. but it will not increase power/endurance/strength and prevent injury.
its all about cardio buddy.
the more cardio you do .. the better your body can supply blood the muscles.
the muscles cant do anything if there is poor blood flow.
also . the more cardio you do .. the lower your skin fold fat becomes .. and the muscles will look "toned"
its very imporant to do running/swimming or cycling whilst weight training . or honestly .. your not going to get far at your age.

Wanking uses up heaps of energy.

Firstly I have lost a lot of hope knowing that you got a 44 in PE.
Its protein powder. You need protein to help grow and if you cant get enough through food, or you need faster absorbing protein because you want to make the most of the immediate post-workout period, then you should supplement it.
You need it regardless of age to build muscle.
The idea is not to burn the protein off (you should know that you rarely utilise protein for energy for movement) it is to metabolise it and use it to repair/grow.
It wont be stored as fat unless there is an excessive amount of it. Half the time an excess amount would be shat out anyway. During recovery though, protein has a very useful purpose (to repair) so the body if you supplement right then its most certainly not surplus to requirements.
Youve missed my point on the squats. You guys squat light. I squat heavy. You guys have chicken legs. I have bulging tear drops (VMO).
Getting tank is not easy. It takes time. Lifting weights + proper diet/nutrition + rest/recovery = growth. Supplementation may give a little boost to all of those elements.
Honestly how can you get a 44 in PE and then come here and say "that MIGHT make your arms larger in volume. .. but it will not increase power/endurance/strength and prevent injury". You have to lift heavier weights to keep seeing benefits - to KEEP YOUR ARMS GROWING. Progressive overload?? Your arms dont just grow by going through the motions with any old weight. You need to make linear progress with weights being lifted to make linear, upwards progress with your measurements! Also how the f*** can lifting weights not cause increases in power, LME and STRENGTH?? Hahahaha. Serious question.. are you f***ing retarded?
Sure cardio can help but have you ever seen a jacked marathon runner? You cant be a cardio-bunny and be big. The more cardio you do the higher your blood volume, the higher your LIP, etc. and yes they are all beneficial for lifting. But working your ANAEROBIC systems will help with anaerobic components such as muscular hypertrophy, strength, power, LME*, etc. so much more.
"the muscles cant do anything if there is poor blood flow"- again, 44 in PE and youre still not aware that theres an ANAEROBIC system? And just because people dont do continuous cardio doesnt mean they have a resting heart rate of 85 and cant get 5 on the beep test. My resting heart rate is something like 55 and I do very little sub-maximal exercise.
Looking 'toned' ie. having a lower bodyfat% is more the result of dieting than cardio. Cardio burns a lot of calories so can be useful for losing fat but you dont HAVE to do cardio to stay lean or lose fat. If youre not eating enough to maintain your weight then you cant put on fat. At the same time you can do 2 hours of cardio a day, but if you take in more cals than youre using then youve got just as much chance of putting on fat as the next guy.

LOL dude
you are right in some aspects
however.
you said
" the idea is not to burn the protein off (you should know that you rarely utilise protein for energy for movement) "
NONONONONONONONONONONON NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
u dont use protien unless carbohydrate stores are very low
and let me tell you .. unless your working out for 4 hours straight .. your not going to get that low .
yes you are right . protien is used for repairing the torn muslces.
howeverr ... YOU GET ENOUGH IN YOUR BLOODY FOOD THAT YOU EAT .
lol
its not necessary to take protein supplements unless your literally an african child in 3rd world country deficient in protein.
and no . u dont just crap it all out .. alot of the supplements you consume actualy get stuck within the body and we dont have the appropiate enzymes to break down some aspects in that powder ( cellulose etc etc etc ).
also
you said . how the F can lifting weights not increase LME , STRENGTH.
it does .. but the point im trying to make is ... if you have low cardio vascular system .. and cannot support enough oxygen to the muscles .. then its worth crap all buddy ...
you said . how do i not know about anaerobic system?
if you are anywhat of a hard trainer .. you know .. you will do many reps and many sets.
after a period of time .. ( 47 seconds) the aneoribic system isnt predominant and actualy the aerobic system becomes the higher energy supplier. .... you need cardio to increase the blood flow , OR ELSE you will bloody fatigue fast after you hit 47 seconds.
ALSO DONT FORGET .. WHEN YOU ARE WORKING ANEORIBICLY , YOU ARE ALSO WORKING AEROBICLY , OR ELSE YOU WOULD BE DEAD ...... hence .. your body ALWAYS need oxygen... its just . how much . at specific times.
now also , if you increase your cardio vascular system and AEROBIC SYSTEM .. you increase the period of time needed for recovery/rest. hence in the end of the day .. you can work aneoribcly for longer before you go home from the gym.
CARDIO + diet like i said before
is what is needed to become toned. as lower fat skinfold.
you will see . every single body builder that has ever got anywhere , have ALL been through hard cardio workouts , diets , and programs to increase blood flow and ventricle size ( so that they can get rid of by-products such as lactic acid faster , and hence work anaerobically for longer)
dont come here telling crap about getting 44 in pe.
i know alot more than you think .. your just a kid trying to get big .. i play falcons and have lessons and therapy on fitness etc etc as a part of the clubs program.
dont be arrogant
and actually listen k?
-
LOL I said you dont use protein for energy unless youre deprived of fats and carbs. Im not saying you supplement protein for energy. If youre using protein for energy youre in a catabolic state when to gain muscle you need to be in an anabolic state.
Not everyone gets enough protein to GROW and REPAIR from foods alone. You need more protein if you lift than you do if youre a sedentary individual or if you take part in most team sports. Its the nature of bodybuilding. Sure you can grow without supps but you if you supplement right you can grow faster.
I acknowledged that the aerobic system and thus cardio exercise has a role to play in best anaerobic performance. But you will make the necessary adaptations from lifting. Look in your PE book, pretty sure they call it the SAID principle. You will make the necessary adaptations by doing the activity that youre working on. Ie. while you lift you are working out the elements needed to be able to do the same activity at a higher level - lift more weight.
And yes cardio leading to increased aerobic adaptations will help you recover between sets.
My issue with cardio though is you dont NEED it to make progress. To make best progress you should do some. To make best progress you should not do too much - as much as footy players for instance. You want to cardio train for the adaptations but you dont want to burn the energy that could be used to build muscle. This is what youre talking about for bodybuilders.
It is also not 100% vital for losing fat. You can do that through proper nutrition.
Haha im the arrogant one? I admit I can be a tosser but im not the one bragging about playing falcons like ive already been drafted. So what you play falcons anyway. I have friends and family who play for or have played for other TAC cup sides and I know a guy who plays/played for vic metro. I dont admire you, at the moment youre no-one.
FWIW Ive represented Victoria myself before in another sport but I chose to stick to lifting because its more enjoyable.
Post up your stats and measurements so I can laugh at them.

Whats your max bench, deadlift and squat?

yeh there we go
i agree with alot of what you have said there.
although .. i see your point was .. its not 100% ESSESTIAL to do cardio
and my point was .. you need to do some inorder to keep training hard and recover faster.
i think the conclusion is.
you definitely need cardio , but you shouldn't waste it all your energy on it as you need some for body building in itself.
good?
p.s
im not bragging about playing falcons.. its not even that hard to get in ....
and i know personally , just like i said before . or maybe it was in the other thread.
" i doubt ill get into afl as there are so many good young players these days , i just wont have a chance , not fit enough , not strong enough" .
iff you like body building .. im not saying dont do it
all i was trying to convey was that
supplements isnt always needed .. and can actauly be a bad thing if your not using it properly
-
Bench - 95
Dead - 165 (with straps)
Squat - 150 (parallel)
@ 5'11 80kgs.
Strong for only lifting a short time but still far off where I want to be.

fair enough. everyone has an opinion on training and theyre all very different.

Pretty good for only a few months of lifting. You're lucky you've got quick gains...
It's so hard for an asian to get massive :(

Asians have small frames though so they dont have to be as big to look as big, if you know what I mean. What are you stats?
-
A few months ago before i stopped for more study time:
Bench 85
Deadlift 145 (no straps)
Squat 95
5'3 70kg
At the moment i'm down to 60kg, don't wanna eat a lot without training to make good use of it lol
-
5'3 :O 60-70kgs is about right for that height. Strong bench for size aswell. Ive got long monkey arms so my bench kinda sucks. needs moar squat.
I wonder what Matts stats are.
I guess: Bench 75, squat - 70, deadlift - doesnt deadlift, beep test - 15

yo visionz .. nice stats btw ..
personally i dont bench .. i get lots of back problems when i do.
usually get the same problems with deadlift.
however ..
before my study got really intense ..i would train frequently
all my weight training is low weight , low set , many reps.
e.g
dips , 25kg added , 20 reps , 3 sets.
curls - 10kg , 30 reps per arm , faster speed , 5 sets.
i only weight train 2 , maybe 3 times a week
other than that
its study + cardio + diet.
swimming 4 days a week , running 4 days per week , cycling .. maybe 2-3 times.
as im trying to get into the national ath team.
im doing 3 days of sprint training.
-
Lol yeah i'm frickin short as :( i got hella short arms and short legs.
I've been training for 3 years though, so that's pretty shite gains.
After the last end of year exam... goal: balls to the wall
Probably should have not stopped training, and just managed time better to squeeze it in there. Good for stress and anger relief (particularly after f'ing up a sac)
-
I wish I started 3 years ago! I would be benching like 140.
I'd turn into a wreck if I didnt have that outlet. I get all edgy when I have 3-4 days off.
Its only a couple of hours 3-4-5 times a week. Make time for it.
I hate cardio. Its so monotonous. Its alright if its a game, tennis, bball, soccer, footy, even sprints/interval or whatever but straight running, swimming or cycling makes me want to kill myself.
-
Something to do with the immune system, that when you stop for a week or two, you get sick? It happens to me everytime i take a few weeks off. I tried to go for a run once every few days to replace training but it was just so time consuming and boring. Not to mention it's freezing at this time of year.
Also im sleep deprived now so i always feel lethargic, probably why i don't have any motivation to train, and even if i was to, i'd feel weak and not be able to go all out.
-
Probs a build up of adrenaline.
-
DOes being a benchwarmer count?! i do that all the time :D

You burn more energy keeping yourself warm in winter. All other things being equal you should lose weight.

very true
but you didnt take into account ... people always eat more in winter
well i know i do myself anyhow ....

Sorta fall under the banner of 'all other things being equal'...
Anyway, the winter or the summer doesnt put food in your mouth. You do. If you watch your diet you will gain/lose/maintain weight at the same rate you would in the summer.

I get more attention than I did before and thats all I care about. Probably more due to the hypertrophy of my confidence/ego rather than of my muscles. :P
Plus ive got a brain too and I inherited some nice things... financial things...
Ill be irresistible. ;)
Plus I dont really lift for girls. Girls dont like veins and stuff but I say the more visible the better. They look sick. I train for aesthetics and to have an outside that reflects the who I am on the inside - a powerful, stubborn, vain, prick thats better than everyone else. :D
