I've been recently writing a lot and building up the length of my essays in line with what I have read from previous assessment reports. Almost all the essays in the reports are 1000+ words in length.
I'm curious as to how many lines of the script book are needed for a decent paragraph. I understand that everyone has different handwriting styles and sizes; but roughly, how many lines of the book would you need to fill for a 1000ish word essay (again assuming the normal number of paragraphs [5-7])?
The script book's smaller size and enlargened spaces make it difficult for me to judge the appropriateness of my paragraphs.
What's a benchmark for the size of a paragraph within the script book, in terms of the number of lines used?
Any advice would be much appreciated. :)

edit: I know this is a totally random question, but I've started asking seemingly pointless questions lately. I blame VCE.

For me, I write around 12 words per line and use around three pages of the script book for a 1000 word essay. Thus my intro is around 10-15 lines and my paragraphs around 20 lines. I usually have my first paragraph longer than the others as I put my strongest idea first.

I believe the general rule of thumb is 3 pages per essay, 6 if it's double spaced. Not sure what that means for the papragraphs tho, i guess that it would vary depending on the importance of the paragraph.
Oh and ur not the only one VCE is driving crazy...... trust me.....

Three sides to be more specific, yea you are getting to a good length, It's so stupid at my school, we get one and a half hours to do all our sacs so we are expected to write so much more. i.e. in my last sac i think i wrote about 11.5 pages double spaced..... my hand was quite sore after that..... >.<

What do you mean by double spaced?

instead of writing directly underneath every time u finish a line, you skip a line so that when you go back and proofread you can fix errors without needing to write in between two lines

^ my teacher advised against this, is it okay to do so?
and I can't believe it's 3 pages, those lines are MASSIVE.

Thanks for confirmation. Never heard of this before. Something to try in my SAC next week.

THAT IS LONG. But I guess your teacher gives you the practice. the lines in the scriptbook are big!
Does vcaa also considers people who write really big?

The essays are assessed on how well they respond to the prompt, stuff like small writing or double spacing isn't a (formal) criterion. Only way it will influence your marks is if the assessor gets irritated by poor handwriting etc.

you make up with it with ur trping speed :P
Personally i'm an advocate of doubble spacing. It's harder to tell if it's too short and much easier to make alterations. And it;s is perfectly acceptable to do in an exam.

that is so asian/cheap tram LOL.
my english teacher is just really against it...sigh the confusing technicalities of the english exam. I simply hate how its so big (the lines) that it misleads you into thinking you wrote alot when you haven't.

For my practice eng exam, i'm not sure if the booklet was identical to the real exam script book? but the lines were frickin huge and i wrote ~700-800 words in 6 pages...

How is seven appalling? in a wordy sentence, i'll fit 3-4 lol
