Title: Scaling
Post by: KryptoN_ on November 06, 2007, 05:07:12 pm
So uh, what's the deal with scaling? I know bus man goes down, but I dunno how much by :(. I've heard from somewhere that if you get over 45 it doesn't go down, but then again I heard someone else that it goes down by 2-4 no matter what. So anyone care to enlighten me? ;) Thanks.

I'm not too sure about this but it normally gets scaled down about 2-4 depending on what your raw score was... i think it doesnt get scaled down only if you get a 50(according to scalling last year)  ...

Aight, reg linked me to this Enter Calculator so I'll post the output.

40 -> 37
41 -> 38.2
42 -> 39.4
43 -> 40.6
44 -> 41.8
45 -> 43
46 -> 44.4
47 -> 45.8
48 -> 47.2
49 -> 48.6

Good to see that if you score fairly well it doesn't penalise you too much!

I know all the rote learn stuff, skills roles styles etc.. but I may get stumped on like 'Identify 2 KPI's and discuss how they gauge the success of the business'  just those sort of ones where you can't actually learn until you get into the exam if you know what I mean.  Oh well I did well on my SAC's i'm sure I can spin some solid gold shit in the exam
Title: Scaling
Post by: kjg on November 09, 2007, 12:16:42 pm
but if you know KPI's then those questions should be a sinch
and if it's just talking about how they help measure a business' success
then it's easy to talk about financial KPI's
always have a non financial as a back up though

Is it just me, or is that all that is needed in this subject? Like, the rote learned stuff is ridiculously easy, it seems to be your ability to spin shit that gets you the marks.

That's my experience from the SACs and practice exams anyway.

Pretty much lol...
They're testing your ability to understand and apply your knowledge not just how well you can memorise things.

Whats the chances that scaling may be a little nicer this year to all you BM students? :?

I'm doing it next year and the thought of getting a 40 to see it go down to 37  makes me feel sick lol

Scaling's always going to be fairly harsh when it comes to a subject like bus man :(.

Bus Man is one of those subjects you don't have to spend much effort on (at least on my part).

It'll always scale down heaps. But, for one thing, if you're interested in it, and can apply examples, you'll do exceedingly well. Apparently, if you lost 5 marks in the exam, that's still a 50 provided you have A+ SACs (anyone care to confirm?)

Regardless, it has scaled down less in recent times. But, don't count on it becoming scaling neutral. Such a popular subject being done by... not so good students will bring the subject down.

Remember, they pick a study cohort at various schools and compare their SS's in other subjects to determine BM (i.e. they get 30 in BM, but average 27 in other subs - BM goes down to 27.) It's more complicated that that, but it's a general idea.

My school has been part of the cohort in recent times (I am under the impression my CLASS is IN the cohort, which is good for everyone). But such is the size of the BM group, we exert little influence when we pull ~40's and everyone else does 25-30 SS's (thus bringing BM down proportionally).

EDIT: various schools, not one school.

Same here...

I've gotten 98% average across the SACs, and only dropped few marks on the practice exams (and that's with little study at that time too) :D

I don't think so... but im not sure :)

My SACs are terrible lol 85% for unit 3 and 90% for unit 4, but i'm ranked first.. so the exam is everything for me...
I can't seem to get more than 59/60 on practice exams grr, anyone have any tips to overcome this?
Oh and say i got 100% on the exam will i be able to get a 50?
thanks

Oh how i wish my SAC marks were as good :cry: stupid teacher marks us too hard :(

So does 100% on the exam + ranking = 50 ?
Because I'm not too sure :)

Aww, I think it's better that you have a teacher that marks hard. Mine marked me too easily and raised my hopes = biiiig disappointment in December :(

100% on exam + your ranking would definitely give you 50 ... can't get better than that :)

I got 95% in unit 3 sacs and 97% in unit 4 sacs, yet I'm ranked like number 2 or 3 (by 1 or 2 marks), does that mean that I will get a lower study score than those above me unless I absolutely blitz them?

As far as I know, study scores are ordered by rank.

Ahahaha

Ankit lol. LOL! Ankit! LOL!

Sorry. As if you're struggling though. Would you prefer my 80% SACs? I know I'd prefer your accounting score... let's swap. You've got three days, ask for help. You'll get it.

Advice? Ask Odette for the Revision package. It's a treat - although half of it is straight paraphrased out of our textbook, it has stuff from BM Notes I believe. Plus CD summaries. Gold.

Nevertheless, good luck for exams.
