I wake up at 12am after getting 4 hours of sleep. I do about 3-5 hours until I can't concentrate anymore. Procrastinate till 1am then study more till 6am. Repeat.

My 5 exams a day is still yet to eventuate.  Maybe, just maybe I can do it tomorrow.

i.e.  Methods Exam 1+2, Chem Exam, Biology Exam and EngLang Exam.

Marking them is the worst.  It can take ages sometimes...

Atm, I am only getting through 2 or 3 a day.

Pretty much nothing. Doing well in one subject and average to slightly above average in all the rest will get me into pretty much anything once the SA bonus points do their job, so there's no need to act as if VCE is the end of the world.

I think he means SEAS application. And fair enough to him he probably means hes doing well enough to do everything but law or medicine. I could say the same about myself and if I try I could probably get law somewhere too. Hes right in saying its not the end of the world. that is quite true.
Bob Hillman (the chief english examiner) came to my school and told us a story about this asian dude who had stereotypically strict parents. They expected him to get into medicine (which he also wanted) but a 70-80 was all he was capable of.
He got into some minor course and 10 years later (a long time yes but who cares) he worked his way up into a course which requires 97+

so dont fret!

10 years just to get into a medical degree.  I would seriously have given up by the age of 24.

Doing 'next to nothing' for study in Year 12 does not signify to me 'motivation to be successful'.

If he gets the study score he wants and gets into the course he wants then he has done what is necessary and can consider himself successful.
Not everyone has the capacity, nor the desire to do medicine, actuary or law.

This is a disgraceful comment, if he's payed attention from years 7-10 and has maintained a reasonable level of study to find that the course he wants to do is one that he'll easily get into. Why should he bother studying?

To wish failure upon someone with a different study plan, you're an idiot.

^ as long as by saying "so there's no need to act as if VCE is the end of the world", he doesn't mean to intentionally undermine the efforts of others, I don't really care what he says. Just be aware that some people, who aren't naturally smart and need to work hard, might be offended by such nonchalant comments. But if your thing has a relatively low enter score to your standards, lol, you have a point Intronaut. To each his own!

So the intention of SEAS is so that some people don't have to study in order to get into their course while others work their asses off and don't get in?
Title: Re: RIGHT NOW , HOW MUCH STUDY YOU DO A NIGHT??
Post by: iffets12345 on October 10, 2010, 07:54:32 pm
^ To have qualified for SEAS, you went through something that disadvantaged you, which means you shouldn't need to have had as much demands from VCE as normal people, hence your ATAR requirements drop in accordance and understanding of your socio-economic/personal situation. Duck, I think you need to refrain from judging and  labelling him as someone who appears lazy and unconcerned. You don't know what makes this person qualify for SEAS and you can't psychoanalyze him from one sentence.
Title: Re: RIGHT NOW , HOW MUCH STUDY YOU DO A NIGHT??
Post by: Duck on October 10, 2010, 07:57:58 pm
Then I will shift my attention to flaws in SEAS. If there is a single person who, as a result of SEAS, barely studies in year 12 and gets into their course then the system is critically and disgracefully flawed.
Title: Re: RIGHT NOW , HOW MUCH STUDY YOU DO A NIGHT??
Post by: Russ on October 10, 2010, 08:05:30 pm
Yeah, god forbid that disadvantaged students get compensated for what they go through.

SEAS isn't to get you into your course without trying. You'll never know what benefit SEAS has to your score, it's just something that gets sent to the uni along with your application.

Depends entirely on the desired course, achieved ENTER and severity of circumstances.

"pretty much anything" can't be guaranteed just because you have a SEAS application.
Title: Re: RIGHT NOW , HOW MUCH STUDY YOU DO A NIGHT??
Post by: Duck on October 10, 2010, 08:23:33 pm
Then it follows logically that his comment was arrogant.
Title: Re: RIGHT NOW , HOW MUCH STUDY YOU DO A NIGHT??
Post by: Russ on October 10, 2010, 08:27:36 pm
Eh? No it doesn't, it'd be arrogant if he was saying he could sit back, do nothing and just get an offer. He said that he'd need to do achieve average marks and do well in one subject to get in.

And that's still no justification for wishing that he fails at everything
Title: Re: RIGHT NOW , HOW MUCH STUDY YOU DO A NIGHT??
Post by: MBBS on October 10, 2010, 08:32:09 pm
In my opinion, I know from personal experience, I have a mate who has been studying his arse off for years now. He has decided he wants to do 'Forensic Science' or something akin to that. Nowadays he doesn't bother studying at all, he knows he'll comfortably get into his course, if I were in his position I'd do the same.

Regardless, to wish someone failure in this context is totally unjustifiable as 'Russ' stated. What he does is up to him, apathy is his decision, you have no right to comment.
Title: Re: RIGHT NOW , HOW MUCH STUDY YOU DO A NIGHT??

I would rather someone who studied hard get into the course in place of him but I give up this argument is going in circles.

So the intention of SEAS is so that some people don't have to study in order to get into their course while others work their asses off and don't get in?

Is it fair that some people are naturally gifted in certain subjects? These types of people will beat many who do less work than them.

Is it fair that people can get into courses with high requirements without doing much work without the help of SEAS?

Also, how do you know what "pretty much nothing" actually entails? For him it might be the same as what you do, I don't know. Keep your arrogant judgement to yourself.

Matty, you're not seriously saying that there is no difference between obtaining something out of natural ability and being handed it?
Title: Re: RIGHT NOW , HOW MUCH STUDY YOU DO A NIGHT??
Post by: m@tty on October 10, 2010, 10:48:32 pm
You are not handed a place with SEAS. It allows people who have had difficult circumstances to be compensated. They have to write a few hundred words explaining how their results have been affected. But of course there may be some who are not truly deserving of it, who are "handed" undue and indeed unfair advantage.

However even with this extra consideration, applicants still need to achieve quite high scores relative to the . It isn't a golden ticket whereby one can achieve 60 and get into Med.

Also, your question has sparked a thought.

What is it that one who is naturally gifted at something has done? They have not worked hard, which you have shown is what you believe should be the main determinant in what score is awarded.

Same can be said for SEAS candidates, though I daresay many of them DO work hard, it is assumed that their score is not truly representative of what they could have achieved without the (approved) adverse conditions. So they have not performed to the same level as those who they are given a place instead of.

SEAS isnt just for people who arent that intelligent in general (if that were the case why would they be going to uni anyway? wouldnt it be a waste?)

im a seas applicant because my school is under-represented and has such a weak cohort that im going to struggle achieving the 89.00 i need for arts at monash... thus seas will help me.

Oh man, perhaps I'd better clarify some things, it seems I stood on a few toes in this thread!

By "SA Bonus points," I meant the bonus point programs run by South Australian universities (no need to bash SEAS, as it's not really relevant in my case) - I am a rural student in north west Victoria, and depending on course and institution, I could be eligible for up to 12 points, 6 at the least - essentially, straight 30s in my subjects (I don't think it's particulary "arrogant" to say that this is a conservative goal around here) has the potential to earn me what is, effectively, an ATAR in the mid 90s. Does that mean I deserve a place less than anyone else? Hardly.

I have a lot of respect for the dedicated VCE students on here who aim high and will no doubt do very well in their exams. Personally, however, I don't prioritise VCE in my life, or conventional education in any form for that matter - I'm of the belief that we're being prepared for exams, not life, but that's for another rant - and would rather enjoy being young than burn myself out - again, I'm not suggesting that's what the hard workers here are doing.

The reality is, not everyone's here to get into Med/Law/Space Monkey Breeding :)

TL;DR - I'm a slacker, don't hurt me.
