1) Using language to Persuade
2) Imaginative Landscape
3) 1984 (skipping it to go to the psych lecture nearby instead.)

I was going to, but I booked for Chem instead because Chem's a bit trickier. I was so tempted to book Psych, though, because of the presenters. Ah, well.
-
THIS. WAS. THE. WORST. LECTURE. EVER
-
lol really
-
Just came back from VATE.
The language and analysis and Look Both Ways lectures were awesome, but the whose reality one was horrible. =[
-
Don't get me started on the campus either, toilets took me 20 minutes to find one whilst i was desperately needing to go. Lecturers rambled on about the most irrelevant garbage... thanks vate for -$50 and a day of my life so close to exam time. pricks. i do not recommend this to anyone
-
shilayli06- i'm doing the exact same english stuff as you.
lol, i was in the pathways room today for further. i saw so many kids come outside for english.
-
i thought vate is the best english lecture u can find
-
It was frickin packed... the yard was crawling with asians. Makes sense, we're all bad at english :P
-
i thought vate is the best english lecture u can find
In my opinion besides the whose reality lecturer, the other two lecturers were really good, but too bad there was only 1.5 hour for each lecture.
-
bahahaha serious? how come?
-
Whose reality was the worse, and they moved our rooms and we were stranded for like 20 mins. Um compensation for the time wasted and the bad lecturer who didn't even talk about the texts? :/ The look both ways lecturer was gooood, he was funny :)
-
I thought the lectures were okay. (went to AMFAS, Encountering Conflict and Language analysis)
I wasn't overly impressed by the context lecture for repetition (Ross Huggard - he'd given the exact same talk at my school, but was good the first time)
The AMFAS lecture was reasonable for interpretations and a general 'refresher'
Language analysis lecture...it was alright, but was fairly boring to sit through
Overall, worth the money but probably not the time
-
*satisfied for not going in the lecture* :smitten:
-
Language Analysis (A) was great. Cosi was good as well (but I sort of zoned out a bit since I was tired) and context was ok, I guess.
-
I thought it was all good. Maybe because i got the teachers that i wanted :smitten:
-
lol, everyone is saying the context one bad.. I guess it's not just the lecturers.. >.<
But yeah, Look Both Ways and language analysis were amazing.
-

I didn't think the toilets were that hard to find...they're like right where the lifts are...
And my lectueres were good, I'd say the scotch head of english guy was pretty awesome, Year of Wonders Text Response was good, context a bit vague but other than that, renumerated a few points I was sure to forget to revise over.
I too was surprised at the bunch of asians around, the ESLs pissed me off cause they kept chatting in chinese in the background. One girl ran out of the room randomly cause she felt really ill. the teacher was like
" So Anna Frith............................................................" and was just speechless.
-
Language Analysis (B) was pretty bad, wish I picked (A) instead ;/
Strange i didn't see many asians today *sadface*, I was pretty much the only one in all my lectures.
Anyone see a loner asian guy walking by himself with a black and white checkered bag by any chance? ;P
-
Analysis, was okay, the notes were better than the lecture, and it wasn't anything I didn't already know.....Cosi was awesome, I got alot out of it, and got better ideas for my essays, and it was my favourite. only 1.5 hours was no where NEAR enough, and all the ideas were not able to be discussed.
Whose reality, after 20 minutes of anothing, and being crammed into a room with most sitting on the floor, the lecture was average, but I enjoyed the optical illusions....
-
the lady that took language analysis B needs to seriously reconsider why she's alive. text response was by far the best, had to sit on the floor for whose reality but the dude was alright.
-
Yea, I heard about her...that's terrible
-
erghhh. I could kill that lady that did the language analysis lecture session B.
She yelled at me for talking in front of the whole lecture theatre, when it was actually the guy behind me calling her a "fat bitch" he also said something like "stop bloody going on about being an assessor we get it".. So she thought it was me who'd said all that crap.
I swear she should be sacked. So fuckin annoying. Thank god she's not my teacher. The context guy was so general too, basically offered no new information.
Vate should be avoided I reckon.
Pathways is the ONLY decent place. Just for psych lectures. No other companies apart from derrick ha have come close to impressing me.
-
shilay, were u surprised at the amount of asians in imaginative landscape? I was. I had the morning sesh.
-
shilay, were u surprised at the amount of asians in imaginative landscape? I was. I had the morning sesh.
hahaha. Yep I was in the morning session. Blue striped jumper. Next to the blonde girl who answered the question about vignettes I think it was.. Hell yer. I was so confused. I thought I might have been in the wrong lecture or something.
Where were you sitting? It's so weird going to these lectures cos you know vn people are floating around but you don't know who they are..
-
oh nice! i was in the front (the one of two ppl doing year of wonders... asian girl..
I WENT TO THE WRONG LECTURE, ESL IDENTITY AND BELONGING SO EMBARRASING.
-

ohhhhh. You must have been sitting like 2 rows in front of me! Haha. Where there even more asians in esl?
-
of course, 100%. When I noticed this dude who I saw with a landscape text wasn't in the lecture I felt uneasy.
How weird was it with all the people coming late! Though I noticed someone came from ballarat grammar.
-

hahaha yer people those 3 people that came in when he was literally 3 slides from finishing. Basically 40 minutes late haha. Did you get language analysis A or B? If you got A, lucky you. If you got B, I feel your pain - the lecturer was so bloody annoying. She should not be employed..
-
I got A, thank god, he was good but he made me realise how crap I am.
Insanely jealous of scotch now.
I thought the context guy was a bit too broad and emphasized imaginative pieces alot...
-
the lady that took language analysis B needs to seriously reconsider why she's alive. text response was by far the best, had to sit on the floor for whose reality but the dude was alright.
Is this the same one that took lang analysis B for session 3? The one who kept saying move the f*ck over? Greta Caruso?
This is the first english lecture i've been to, and if this is supposed to be one of the best... then derrick ha's maths lectures are out of this world

yea its her, i regret sitting so close to the front.
-
I think she took all the language analysis (B)s. You could tell she was just a rude teacher.
I wish she gave her email out. She'd get so much hate mail from everyone..
I've been to like 6 different lectures and at the end there's always a huge applause for the lecturer.
At the end of ours with her.. It was literally crickets chirping in the background and then everyone just walked out.
First time I've ever seen a lecturer not get a clap. Just shows how shit she was.
-
Was it just me... or was her analysis (2/3 stolen) that she based her lecture on, just absolute shit and replicating something of that standard would not be a 10?
-
I got A, thank god, he was good but he made me realise how crap I am.
Insanely jealous of scotch now.

Oh how I envy you.
I really liked the stuff he said on jindabyne that was really helpful. He should have discussed the texts more and less on the other general stuff everybody knows.
I mean if you don't know the forms are expository, persuasive and imaginative this late in the year then you probably won't learn it in a lecture. I think lecturers need to pick up their game. English teachers always harp on about how we need to write for an "informed audience" in our essays.. Well maybe they could start lecturing like we're an "informed audience" too. God if I hear one more mention of the vcaa website in a lecture I will strangle the lecturer with my bare hands.
Thank god today is the last lot of vce lectures I'm going too. At least I ended on a high note with the psych one which was actually good, VATE = VERY AVERAGE TEACHING of ENGLISH.

lol maybe for you but I quite liked it :D.
I don't know, I am not sure how to "change" my expository so it doesn't so formulaic cause that's the way I do it...and the talk of the feature article seemed a bit stretched. Some of the ideas were a tad corny, and unoriginal even tho they stuck well to the prompt.
-
Was it just me... or was her analysis (2/3 stolen) that she based her lecture on, just absolute shit and replicating something of that standard would not be a 10?
Yer the analysis didn't seem to be that amazing as she made it out to be. I think just cos she wrote it she thought it was the best thing on earth. Looked like a 9. Not 10 to me. It was good though. Just not the holy grail of analysis. Yer, you could tell most of the essay was from her students, she probably only just joined the two students' pieces - that was her contribution. Just physically joining the two on word or something.. She was just so arrogant. e.g. "I think the word 'claims' is the best to use here...Maybe you could think of a better one? I doubt it (smirk on her face)"
I was so tempted to just walk out cos it was so frustrating having to listen to her.
-
Yeah, she tried to be funny. Every time she made a joke you couldn't even hear a courtesy chuckle.
WTF was up with her notes?
First of all, it was those gay powerpoint print outs that no one even bothers to look at or annotate. I could tell it was going to be bad as soon as I looked at the notes, should of just left whilst I had the chance
And second - I'm not even kidding here - every single page had the same fucking paragraph, just highlighted differently (which didn't even turn out with the black and white printing). Some glorified introduction that she was way too proud of
She's got a bad case of saggy nanna tits too :buck2:

Yer his sample responses were of a really high standard. But the possible ideas you could write on were so cliched. "Write an article of logging" I doubt it would score high marks unless it was done really really well. Yer I thought he would have focused more on expository cos that's what most of the people were actually doing.. I get what you mean though. It can be hard to be creative and finish in an hour. Most of my context essays are the same thing repeated over and over again.
-

hahahaaha. So true to all of that. At the end of exams I'm gonna write a letter of complaint about her. She does not deserve a job lecturing. Other students shouldn't be put through her crap. Yer the highlighting was completely useless. One of the people next to me wrote down: "Highlighters weren't invented until the lecturer was in her 20s" haha. I was in the front row. Oh god. It was horrible. I'm like... put your jacket back on. please?
Nobody laughed cos she was just a rude b****, just trying to be funny. I feel sorry for her students. Having to deal with that on a daily basis would be horrible.
-
She's got a bad case of saggy nanna tits too :buck2:
Mate... you loved it. As if you even looked there hahah
And she was extremely proud of her first sentence, went on about it for a good 10 minutes; "excitedly urgent call for action"
No examiner would immediately be convinced that the piece is a 10 from the get-go with vocab like that
which session were you in shiyali?
-

I thought nobody put their hand up for expository? I'm doing it because I can' risk imaginative I reckon. I seriously believed 95% of ppl in that room were doing it...at which point I thought "they're all either super smart or super pretentious about the quality of their writing." He should have but I think there's not much to say about expository, he just warned us about being mechanical, so now I have to shuffle my paras around and stuff *shrug*.

The middle one (session two). If you were in that one, I was the one she yelled at for supposedly talking the whole time when I only said one thing when she wasn't even talking herself, bloody guy behind me. Took the blame. It was noble of me..haha Seems like she left a bad impression on everyone. When I first read the sentence I thought she was giving us an example of what not to do.. I thought you usually started with a discussion of the broad issue.. That opening sentence screamed like 8. No way 10. What the hell is wrong with her.
-

Nar like 1/3 put their hands up. Everyone behind you did. So you probably didn't see. Yer imaginative = risky. I saw there was a blind girl in the lecture. That would have been so difficult for her. I can't even begin to imagine her situation. I thought she'd be doing auslan? Can you write in brail in the exam? I was so confused.
-
Lol you should have argued with her, although it seems it's impossible to win, she's just too loud
I don't like old lecturers, they seem to think they know what they're doing, but it's the people that recently finished vce that can relate to you and give the best advice. Being an assessor for 20 years and teaching at a school that charges 30k a year does not make you a good teacher/lecturer imo.
I think i'm in love with derrick ha...

derrick ha = god. hahaha
I was so close to yelling back at her. But I decided to remain cool and calm. I knew she would just not shut up if I did. And she'd use all her english crap to argue with me..rhetoric (excuse me?)... inclusive language (we're all trying to gain an understanding of language analysis and you're disrupting all of us)... appeal to the hit pocket nerve (people here have paid good money for my lecture and not for you to be talking during it)... The list is endless. I bet she would have done something annoying like that, and I just wanted to leave so I just said "yer" gave her a death stare and left.. Younger lecturers are so much better. They just tell you what the teachers are too scared to say.
-
Hahahah there is not one person that does not love derrick ha, the guy is amazing.
All the lecturers come from fancy schools. Imagine paying a fortune each year... and to end up having her for your final year of english. I really hope she does not mark my exam... she seems to be one of those people that have a checklist in their head. Context? Yes. Tone? Yes. Form? No, -1 mark.

Does "excitedly urgent" even make sense? Excitedly seems unnecessary here and the expression just sounds awkward.
The essay is all that she gave us, and it is a disappointment. Sigh.
-
Well, for me ESL Context was pretty crap...walked in and out without gaining anything... AMFAS was the only session worth going to for me..ESL Language analysis was...better than context
Overall...1/3 sessions were good..they should've given us a longer lunch break too! the queue for KFC and La Porchetta was so long! :(

YEAH ^this...
My friend wanted to go to KFC, and so we went there, only to see a line coming out onto the street! So we walked around the corner and saw OH LA PORCHETTA... but then once again, people waiting out on the street.
The campus is pretty convenient though, right next to the station. Campus itself is a hole
-
I pray to god she doesn't mark my paper. If she thinks phrases such as "excitedly urgent" are 10 worthy then she must just be stupid. And would probably mark people more harshly who don't follow her "perfect structure". I can't remember exactly what it was but it was only something like minor such as writing about the visual separately or something.. She was like you can do that if you want a 3. I doubt assessors are that harsh. She was just flaunting the fact she was an assessor. Nobody really cared. Her lecture was shit. Only one essay. And the notes were all on that essay. Completely pointless. VATE should seriously reconsider her current employment.
KFC was shocking. We were there for like 20 minutes.

I noticed that, so I went to the korean restaurant right next door. I was the only VATEr ordering and it still took 20 minutes

anyone go to psych lecture today?

You will never believe my luck! The lecturer for Frankenstein has fallen severely ill, so she called her good friend, Greta Caruso, to replace her...
WTH.
Honestly though, she wasn't as bad as yesterday. But she still flaunted one of her students work. It was actually very good this time. But that wasn't what the lecture was meant to be focused on and she didn't even give us the extracts of the work which she used...
Oh, and there was one of her students in that lecture. Most likely she was trying to get a different interpretation or approach. I feel so sorry for her. What bad luck.

i didn't go but if you didn't like her (or if you did) rate her here

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA. I actually burst out laughing at that. What the heck are the odds. If I was in that lecture I would have literally thrown the lecture notes at her and walked out. Lucky for you she was somewhat decent this time. I finally read the whole language analysis and there were quite a few errors in it. One just off the top of my head was she quoted it being 1500 hits when it was 15000 and some comma usage was incorrect too. And yet she was so adamant her analysis was worth a 10. How could she spend 3 hours to produce that? Once again, thank god we're not her students. She would be a horror of a teacher.

LOL WHAT
what's frankenstein? and who would be "good friends" with Greta Caruso?

who the fark is greta?
OH god. You're lucky you didn't have to see her. She was the language analysis (B) lecturer. And she was a rude cow. Everyone hates her. That's why its funny how matty got her again haha.
-
How could she spend 3 hours to produce that?
Did she say it took her three hours? She only said to my group, "I completed it in more than an hour, after reading through all of my students work. Don't worry though; you are not expected to be able to produce a piece of this standard in the exam."
...
Fail?
EDIT:
LOL WHAT
what's frankenstein? and who would be "good friends" with Greta Caruso?
Frankenstein is a novel from the 1800s, authored by Mary Shelley. It's one of my Lit texts.
Now that I think of what she said, there was no mention of friendship at all. She was the replacement because the planned lecturer "knew I[Caruso] taught it".
-
Ah, i didn't go to the english lecture yesterday, was at the further one... I went to psych today ha.
Glad i didn't have to deal with 'Greta' ahahaha.

Yer somebody asked her.. She said 3 hours after having read the analysis of everybody in her classes. So that's kinda cheating. First she just copied others and second she went 3 times over our time limit. If it took her that long to do that. I'd love to see what she could produce on her own in an hour like we all have to. Yes littlebec. "Greta" is one to avoid at all costs. hahahaha.

Greta is a fat name.
That's the first thing I thought anyway.
