Title: VCE certificate
Post by: 7132 on October 16, 2010, 08:00:06 pm
at the end of the year after we receive our statement with our ATAR and subjects we did and get the uni course we want and stuff. Does anyone actually keep their certificate or do they just throw it away..... like i think it would be a dissappointment to keep it if i ended up getting mid 80s because everytime i would be reminded of how dumb i am. furthermore it wouldnt be something i would want to show others i.e. family friends, friends, future kids etc.

It doesn't have your course details on it, it's just a "ABC has successfully completed the VCE with a score of XX.XX"

You get a separate letter with scores and stuff as well.

I kept mine, throwing it out is a bad idea for a whole lot of reasons

secondary question... I'm in year 11, we actualy do get a certificate yeah? like a bit of paper with a red stamp or one of those round gold stars, with our name on it and maybe a photocoppied signature? It's not just a number?

I'll be prety upset if we weren't meant to take 'victorian CERTIFICATE of education' litteraly.

My school gave us one when we finished year 11, but it's got no connection to the VCAA

I got my results on a piece of paper and on the back it said something like "This is to certify that <name> completed the Victorian Certificate of Education with an ENTER of xx.xx" and a signature

You'll just get a sheet with your scores for your 3/4 and a sheet with your GAT scores. You won't have done enough subjects to complete VCE at that point.

mid 80s is a decent score. Nothing to be ashamed of. :)

Certainly given the state average is something like 66, and that half of Victorians get less than that...

That will pretty much appear on your certificate - except this year it will be ATAR instead of ENTER.  You'll get 4 pieces of stuff from VCAA and VTAC:

1.  That certificate stating your ATAR (from VTAC).
2.  A separate piece of paper from VCAA telling you what subjects you did throughout your VCE and their respective study scores (if possible).
3.  Your GAT results.
4.  An application to inspect your scripts.

So did you guys actually get a certificate?
the certificate i got didn't have enter info on it, just the "this is to certify that xxx has satisfied all the requirements of the VCE". i got all the study scores/gat stuff on a separate statement of results.

I'd suppose it depends on year? I wouldn't be surprised if the arrangement changes from time to time.

Correct me if im wrong but isnt ~50 average

Yes, you do get a cetificate from the VCAA listing your subjects, study scores, ect

Its a pretty fancy thing watermarked and all so you dont forge it i guess (yeah theyre just trying to make you feel even worse)

(you only get this if you did a 3/4 subject that year i think)

I wouldn't throw it away, i dont know why you would

Nah it's not 50
There are quite a few people who actually don't go to their exams and just got the VCE certificate so they can use it for applications to whatever they need, and dont get a score, this means that there wont be anyone who gets at the very low end, hence raising the actual mean ENTER since there are a load of people getting the same score of 0 (ie: no score).

Yeah vexx is on the ball. If everyone were forced through the exams it would be 50, but the fact is people drop out of school or don't turn up. Through this, an ATAR of 66 still means you beat 66% of the state. It's just that the extra 16% weren't even trying.

apparently ATAR is calculated against your year 7 cohort, with all the dropouts artificially raising the score.

Or at least apparently that's what happened when NSW switched from UAI to ATAR, dunno if it affects Victoria.
