Title: Compak 2009 mistake??! :S
Post by: aposta28 on October 22, 2010, 05:51:32 pm
2.2.1 reconstruct debtors account

100,000 is sales.. 40% is credit sales
Balance is 10800
discount expense is 2640
Now, Receipts from Debtors..
It says 70% of debtors pay within the quarter, and rest pay in the next
So 40000x0.7= 28000

In the solutions is has recepits from debtos is 36160 :S
Can someone please tell me how they got this?

What you've said seems right. In my calculations I had:

Debit: Balance $10,800, Sales $40,000

Credit: Bank ?, Discount Expense $2,640, Balance $12,000 (30% of the credit sales)

If you add the DEBIT side that should equal $50,800, subtract that from the CREDIT SIDE (= $14,640) and you should get $36,160. The 70% of Debtors thing is irrelevant when working out the Receipts from Debtors. I think it's just there to trick you. Read the question carefully and work through it in a logical process and you should get it. =)
