Anyone else notice how faint the lines were? Or was is just me?
Mine seemed fine..
Oh and I wrote 3.75, 2, 4.
Which equates to:
~1125 , ~600, ~1200
EDIT:
@ matt123 whoa, crazy.

Hm perhaps i was getting delusional just looking at the paper for so long.
Also i thought they told us that the lines were gonna be really spaced out?
-
I did:
3.5 for Language,
3.5 for Context,
5.5 for Hard Times (text)...
I'm actually concerned my context was too short?
I write on average around 9 words per line if neat, to eventually 6/7ish if I'm REALLY rushing which I absolutely did for context (wrote the entire essay in the final half hour :|)...
With context, do you think they'll look harshly upon an essay that had a nice imaginative opening, a big paragraph about the text chosen and the prompt, and another paragraph about the prompt/seperate text that sort of ended abruptly and was REALLY rushed... ?
-

I share similar circumstances with you.. anyone care to answer?
-
i did
context: ~950
text response: ~900-950
language analysis: ~900
-
2 pages only :(
-
2 pages only :(
naw which one though?
-
I think she means 2 for each one.
Well hey, its better than 2 combined :D
-
How many pages was it untill you got to the middle - the stapples?
It was 4? I felt so depresed when i got to the middle and thought that some people will need another script book....
I wrote:
5.5 for Text
6 for context
5.5 for language analyisis
-
text response 1200 words
context 1000 words
language analysis 800-900
-
5 for langanal
4 for text
3 for context (plus a few lines to put in my Dumbledore quote)
I think. I can't even remember anymore.
-
7 for Text

EZ's one is a combination of quantity and quality :D
-
7.5 for Language Analysis
7.5 for Richard III
8 for Context
^^^^^
I have big handwriting ^_^
-
Yeah, but EZ's 7 pages are going to equal my 3.5 pages of "brillance" x1000.
3.5 - LA
3.5 - Text
4 - Context
I only memorised 1 essay for context, and had almost the same prompt in the exam! Woot!
-
2.5 2.5, 1.5 for context. wtf
-
2.5 2.5, 1.5 for context. wtf
Don't feel too bad lmao.
2.5 - LA
1.5 - TR
1.0 - Context
lol..... I have small handwriting though (15 lines per line).... but still pretty average. Aiming for a 30 anyways...
EDIT: Also remember some of the smartest kids in the state use these forums. Just imagine how you'll compare with the rest of the state. Not to mention quality > quantity :)
-
You guys flatter me - it IS most definitely quality over quantity (even if quantity helps). =)
-
Indeed. Which is why you'll own:
EZ's one is a combination of quantity and quality :D

EZ's one is an excerpt from heaven, divine.
-
I have no idea how some people can possibly fill those books, has any one actually witnessed this?
The assessors would probably be scared at the thought of 2 books for each essay :P
-
LOL i just imagined this picture let me find it...
-
found it ;D
-
QUALITY FTW. Cept i didnt finish context so score would be 10 10 3. Yeh its all good
-
You guys flatter me - it IS most definitely quality over quantity (even if quantity helps). =)

how many words do you think that is? like 7 pages for me would be around 2000+ words since i write 400 words a page on those vcaa booklets

It depends how many words per line but I would say your estimate would be about right. But with slightly bigger writing could be about 1500-1800.
-
ouch, wouldnt that much writing discourage an assesor?
-
3 to 3.5 pages - seems to be about the average on here which makes me feel good! (Y)
-
4 pages each with pretty big ugly handwriting. :/
is it true assessors are more likely to mark you down with shitty handwriting?
-
^ i guess if they cant read it...

Or conversely, are assessors more likely to mark you leniently if your handwriting is neat, legible and completely no-problem at all to read.

1400ish - 200 words per page is around my usual count.
-
in did 1.75 2 and 1.75
any chance you can get 25 with this amount and poor to average quality
-
For 25 I think you need 4 -4.5 for each; so yeah I'd say you have a good chance at 25. Really depends how much you engaged with the task in those few pages.
-
5 pages ~12 words per line, didn't bother counting my words though =\
-
found it ;D
i only wrote 2 pages each and my handwriting is like not that great...maybe 15 words-18 per line
-
hmm that seems like about 600-700 words. 15-18 a line is a lot
-
I wrote 3.5 for LA, an even 5 for TR and about 6 and a half for context.
Could've wrote a bit more for TR but I wrote an intro for question one, didn't like it so decided to scribble it out and do question 2 instead.
-
Text Response: 1200
Context: 1100
Analysis: 1000
Does anyone know how many pages there were in the script book.
-
8 lined pages.
-
6 pages for the analysis, 2 pages for the context and 0 for the text response.
I hate you VCAA. You're lucky I'm only in year 11... I can repeat this trash.
-
8 lined pages.
Thanks man

My handwriting was so crap at the start...I thought I wasn't gonna finish.
Then I realised I should take it easy and my writing got better >.<

Says the guy who wrote even more pages :P
-
No like...now that I'm some outside guy looking at what someone else has done, 8 pages each gives off such an...intimidating aura =X
-
3.5 for Lang analysis
3.5 Conflict
3.5 On the waterfront
I fit roughly 325 words on each page..
so probably close to 1000 words each section.
-
Not as much as I would have liked to! Ah well.
-
4 pages for cosi, 4 pages for context and 2 for langAng, hopes thats enough,
-
How many pages 'till the staples?
-
How many pages 'till the staples?
4, assuming you are meaning the middle of the script book.
-
6 pages for the analysis, 2 pages for the context and 0 for the text response.
I hate you VCAA. You're lucky I'm only in year 11... I can repeat this trash.
How much do you write per page?
6 pages is a very good effort - is it quality content? Will it be 10? :P [Silver lining, perhaps?...]
-
What's silver lining?
It is a good essay I guess.. not too sure.
-
I wrote 6 pages for each one, with about 7-8 words per line
But I'm most concerned about my Context :S
-
What's silver lining?
It is a good essay I guess.. not too sure.
"Every cloud has a silver lining."
Ok, you can only hope . . .
-
Is the exam out of 10 or 20? why did it say 20 each part and a total of 60?
-
It's marked by 2 examiners, who mark it out of 10 each.. making it a total out of 20 for each essay.
-
Is the exam out of 10 or 20? why did it say 20 each part and a total of 60?
....0.o........actualy, now I'm wondering as well, and i thought they were marked by like 6 examiners or something
-
are you serious?

2 examiners for each section.
-
Okay.. not I feel dubious about what I wrote.
That's only something I think I heard.
-
Im pretty sure they get marked by only 2 but not sure of the process
-
i dunno i read in an assessor's roprt that the pieces were marked by "no les than six assessors" or something like that...might have distorted memory =X
-
Nah, minilunchbox is correct, each section is marked by a different pair of examiners.
-
out of 10 or 20
-
Each marker will give one of your essays a mark out of 10.
-
i dunno i read in an assessor's roprt that the pieces were marked by "no les than six assessors" or something like that...might have distorted memory =X
this is because there are different assessors marking each section of your paper, 2 different for each section, and no assessor can mark more than one of your essays :)
-
I'm so happy to hear this, for some reason I thought it was one assessor for each section.
-
14.5 accross the three. big handwriting though
-
4 pages for TR, 4 pages for Context and 2.5 pages for LA.
i have really small handwriting, and ive got it down to 1 page every 8 minutes
-
i wrote 3.5 for R&R, 4 for C&P and 4 for LA!
-
4.5 for LA, 4 for text response and 1.5 for language analysis (hope the quality gets over the word count!)
-
15 across 3 but my handwriting is fat as, i wrote about as much as a normal person would write 8 pages in probs
-
I wrote...
Section A/ 34 pages
Section B/ 43 pages
Section C/ 12 pages
But I only write one word per page
Will I be judged badly for this, can I still get a 50?
-

Nah you'll be alright, your study score is actually a random number drawn from a bag of marked marbles.

Nothings impossible, remain hopeful.
If they were incredibly insightful and cover the essential aspects of the respective tasks, then yes, you can get 10/10 for each and 50 as a study score. :D
But I don't advise you write so big next time, I don't think examiner's are fooled into thinking your pieces are of great length just because you cover a large number of pages.
-

You know there has to be some sense of readability when your essay is marked.
-
Hahahahahaha oh, thankyou to the guys that understood I was kidding!
I'm in Year 11 :)
-
For Text I wrote about 5-6, and I have cursive.
Context I finished the booklet (just) but I did a monologue with reflection that included stage directions so there was lots of spaces ect.
analysis I think I had about 6 pages, but if you took out the waffling and lack of coherency it should be about three... I panicked...
-
5 and a bit, 5 and a bit, nearly 4
-
i wrote 2 and a half for each, but i have pretty small handwriting... ahh now im afraid ive written too little

If you have small handwriting, then you should be fine. You don't have to write a lot to convey great concepts - in fact, concise writing is better. Also, it is possible to get 10 from a small word count of ~800 words.
-
4 pages each
-
about 6 for text, 5.5 for context and 5 for language analysis.... left 1.5 hours for text so i could do as much as i could :)
-
4 for text and context, and 5 for language analysis.
It all depends on your handwriting lol
-
3 pages for text, 3 pages for language analysis, 6 pages for context.
I just blabbered on in context. :(
-
Ross Huggard said at a lecture that I went to, the essays that score 10 are generally around the 800-1000 word mark.
-
hey what study score would i get if my SACs are all at B to B+ standards and on the exam i got a C+?
thanks :)

Yeah. That word range he says ensures the essay is succinct and uses the key evidence required to directly answer the question. That's not to say a 1500 word essay can't get a 10.
-

If you are succinct with terrific expression and have only 3 paragraphs - let's say very insightful paragraphs, just so 10 is plausible - then you'd only need ~ 200 words per body. Add then another 200 or so for introduction and conclusion and you have yourself an 800 word 10/10.
The thing with very long essays is that they tend to ramble, by the end at least. And often evidence and concepts are drawn into the discussion which are not wholly relevant. Thus if you write a long essay it is easy to fall into these traps and be marked down for it.
Also, remember that the average word counts are, I think, ~550-700 words. So in comparison to the masses, an 800-1000 word essay is quite long already - and 1500 words is unheard of in most schools.

Yeah the Year12's at my school this year were predominately happy with 600 words in an essay, very very annoying with the exception of the few kids that actually took VCE seriously. 1500 words seems a bit too much to be honest, often drawing in a lot of the mistakes you mentioned, particularly using a lot of irrelevant, but that's not to say I haven't read some amazing lengthy pieces. 1000-1300 is the perfect range I think.
-
Ross Huggard said at a lecture that I went to, the essays that score 10 are generally around the 800-1000 word mark.
Putting it out there, I heard once that Ross Huggard is a bit of an idiot in general.
I honestly believe even if you are the most succint writer in the world, fitting enough content into 800 words for a 10/10 is hard. 1000 or even 900 words (particularly the former) sounds a bit more plausible.
The thing with very long essays is that they tend to ramble, by the end at least. And often evidence and concepts are drawn into the discussion which are not wholly relevant. Thus if you write a long essay it is easy to fall into these traps and be marked down for it.
I think the thing about very long essays is that unless you feel reasonably comfortable about English, you're not going to write them anyway. At least in my experience, people who do the whole 1200+ words gig are generally fairly confident that what they're saying is relevant.
With that said, I think we should just conclude with the usual maxim - quality over quantity. With that said, if you've got quality down, I don't see why length would be a disadvantage to you as long as you felt it was necessary.
-
Putting it out there, I heard once that Ross Huggard is a bit of an idiot in general.
+1 - I've heard this too! ;D He teaches at Cranbourne SC.

Uhhh, I know this is disgustingly late. But uhh:
4.4386795 pages Text Response = 1134 words
4.5214250 pages Context = 1169 words
3.7928372 pages Language Analysis = 953 words
Yes. I am that exact.
