and how much of an advantage would it put you if you, say, got full marks on number 1?

not much, if you want the top marks, most of the ppl who are in the top tiers ace exam 1, exam 2 is the important one. That's not to say exam 1 is not important, it's just as important, make sure you get as much marks as you can. Especially if this year is as easy as last year, you'd need to ace exam 1 to aim for the top marks.
