errpp . thanks man.

nurse on call
-
That's a pretty high temperature.
You need to get to a doctor...
It may help to take panadol, and put a lukewarm facewasher (NOT a cold one) on the back of your neck or your forehead.
You should also be drinking plenty of water.
-
whats normal temp suppose to be?

Not for a few years. No.
-
Okay. Find a doctor near you and see if you can get a friend to drive you there (you shouldn't be driving on your own). If you tell them you have a 40 degree temperature you'd probably skip the queue. Otherwise, take two panadol (I don't know if you should be mixing painkillers), drink some warm water and try to get some sleep. Being on the computer definitely isn't going to help you.
-
Fark its at 42.1 now .. The headache is starting to kick in.

42.1?! Forget the doctor, go to the hospital
-
as long as you don't feel as though your are going to faint or fall over or anything, a shower will probably make you feel better.
then just drink water and bed...
and yeah, 42 is massively high. definitely get onto a healthcare pro...
-

ICE IS BAD!!!
You may actually make your fever worse if you use ice, because it might make you shiver, which will increase your core body temp.
This is why it's important to use a lukewarm facewasher (the idea is that it should feel *cool* to your skin, not cold).
If cold water is no good, try drinking warm water.
The important thing is to be getting the fluids into you.
As for the house temperature, turn the damn heater off.
You should be aiming to get your house at normal room temperature (bout 18C - 20C).
If you feel cold and are shivering, you should put blankets on.
As soon as the shivering stops, you should take the blankets off again.

I just read all your other posts.
You need to get to a doctor immediately.
If no-one can drive you, then call an ambulance.
A temperature above 40C is a medical emergency.
At the clinic I work at, we almost always call an ambulance for anyone with a temperature above 40C.
-
Might I ask why you're continuing to do a psych exam when you have a 41.2degree fever? I believe anything above 40 degrees is already a sign that you need medical attention of some sort, so why are you still doing a psych exam and not lying down again?
-
What a trooper, doing practice exams with a 42.1 temperature.. damn

PUT DAT EXAM DOWN YOU CRAZY?

•1
Get plenty of rest.
•2
Drink plenty of fluids. Suck on an ice cube or flavored ice, or drink iced fruit juice or chilled clear broth.
•3
Dress lightly and keep the room temperature between 70 and 74 degrees F. Use a blanket if you feel cold.
•4
Take anti-fever medicines only when necessary. For children under 18 years old, use acetaminophen or ibuprofen. For adults, use acetaminophen, aspirin or ibuprofen.
•5
Give a child a lukewarm sponge bath for a temperature higher than 102 degrees F, but wait 30 minutes if you have given her acetaminophen. Wipe the child with a lukewarm washcloth or place her in a lukewarm tub for 20 minutes, then dry her thoroughly and check her temperature. If it is lower than 102 degrees F, don't continue with the lukewarm baths. If the child is shivering, warm up the water by a few degrees for the next bath.
•6
Know your medications. Some drug allergies cause fevers. If you suspect that one of your prescription medications may be causing a fever, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
•7
Spread lip balm or petroleum jelly over the lips during the fever and for several days thereafter, since lips often crack and split during a fever
OR HOW TO REDUCE FEVER WITHOUT MEDICATION.
.There are a few options if you would prefer to try to reduce a fever without medication. These may also help if medication is not reducing the fever quickly enough.
•Taking a bath in lukewarm water -- be sure the water is not cold, if it causes shivering, that may cause the body temperature to increase.
•Cool packs or cool rags under the arms, on the forehead and in the groin area -- be sure the packs are not too cold.
•Be sure not to wrap the person with a fever in blankets or warm clothes. Although they may feel cold, added layers will only prevent the body temperature from dropping like it should. Dress the person in one layer of comfortable clothes, provided the environmental temperature is comfortable
based on ehow.

yeh like a petition or something to vcaa assessor saying that his doing this exam with a fever so he desveres a 50.

Take some nurofen instead of the panadol, it's better at reducing fever, i wouldn't really mix both of them though....
If you find yourself losing a lot of fluids (and electrolytes) i'd find something around the house with electrolytes in it... rice water usually works
Yeah that is dangerously high (if youre measuring it right) i'd go to a hospital right now, the doctor wont have much in his office to take it down
If it ever gets over 41.5 and stays there, id do something about it very (very) quickly

Yeah rubbed deep heat everywhere.
It stings in one place though.
thanks
-
wouldn't a hot shower make it worse?
my friend was sick, took a shower and fainted
o.o
-
I wouldn't use it heaps and rub it everywhere a lot of times over, some of the stuff can be absorbed through your skin and be bad for you.
Once is fine but i wouldnt keep doing that

Just saw this. High fever and headache is quite a broad symptom, but the main thing I'm worried about is meningitis since that's the only thing it presents with and is life threatening. Any other infection can probably wait but meningitis isn't something where you have time to waste. I'd get it checked out ASAP.
-
Any signs of neck stiffness or intolerance to light? Or well, anything beyond the fever and headache?

Thanks man.
I just read wiki about "meningitis"
it said " an inability to tolerate light . vomiting/ headache and neck stiffness" are the symptoms
I have all of those. including irritability and drowsiness
starting to freak out now.
My fever has settled a bit , 38.4 degrees.
Should i go to the hospital? or wait a few hours till i can go to the doctor?
-
Go to the hospital now.

Yeah neck is stiff as hell. but i think thats just because i "slept" on it bad during the 1 and a half hours of sleeping i got last night.
The light thing.
well kinda
i dont know if this classifies
but i feel dizzy as hell when i look up at the lamp lol.
i dont think its that bad though.

i dont think hospital is necessary.. i ve survived over 40 before.. just stay relaxed and plenty of fluid
-
Go to the hospital now.

If it's meningitis, he needs to. He's got pretty much every symptom of it so he really does need to go if it is. If it's not, no harm done really. But if it is meningitis and he doesn't go, it's life threatening.

But shinny is a med student. .. obviously knows more than me.
The only thing is ... my fever is settling .. 38.3 ishhh
and my neck stiffness is going because i "massaged it" ... i think it was just lying on it badly.
... not sure what to do.
Kinda dont wanna go to the hospital . they will think im an idiot with a LOW fever.

It's low because you've drugged yourself up. It was previous 42 didn't you say? That's amazingly high.

I'm well aware that it could just be a fever from something else. Chances are it's not meningitis more than it is. However, it's not something someone would particularly like to risk when they show a textbook definition of meningitis right? I'm just trying to play it safe here. No one's going to blame you for getting it checked in the hospital if you come in with all those symptoms and a 42 degree fever.

You know... in the hour and a half you've spent getting advice from teenagers who, for the most part, quite clearly don't know what they're talking about, you could have seen a fking DOCTOR.
FYI: You should follow Shinny's advice above everything else said on here.

There's a nerve in your jaw joint which also supplies the ear so that can refer pain to it. I'm trying to figure out why that nerve might be irritated to begin with though...
EDIT: Don't think there's a clear explanation of it. It's probably just a result of the headache. Headaches do weird stuff =/
-
is there any good reason why you can't get to a hospital to actually get yourself checked out?
"wait and see" isn't usually the best form of diagnosis/treatment. I'm no doctor but common sense will tell you that.
-
do you have cold symptoms at all?
-
Can someone track down this guys Address (Enwiabe/other mods?) and just call the fkn Ambulance to his place?

aish just stop complaining, get off the computer and go to the hospital if you really are feeling this bad :uglystupid2:
-
is there any good reason why you can't get to a hospital to actually get yourself checked out?
"wait and see" isn't usually the best form of diagnosis/treatment. I'm no doctor but common sense will tell you that.
Straight from Wiki:
"Meningitis is potentially life-threatening and has a high mortality rate if untreated; delay in treatment has been associated with a poorer outcome."
Pretty much hence why I've been so adamant on going to the hospital. Once again, no one's going to blame you for going there with these symptoms. You'll probably just get chucked on broad-spectrum antibiotics once you get there straight away. So yeh, you were already at 41 so I'd go now. I don't see a point in waiting because your drugs are going to mess up what your fever should actually be anyway. But meh, up to you. Like I said, meningitis isn't that common but it's something you don't want to miss...

you are not gonna get an ENTER of 2 haha
e.g abdi: omg failed chem!!!.... he got 74/75 haha
We should define Abdi in the urbandictionary
Definition: Abdi - the act of making out like you failed an exam, only to end up with a rediculously high mark.
e.g. 'Aww man, I totes just failed the chemistry exam. Probz gonna get liek an E....'
'Yeah, whatever. Just shutup. Don't pull an Abdi okay...'

this is prob bit late... but no ones mentioned it
what i do if you have a high fever and your shaking is get a lemon cut it in half... and massage it all over your body, your head, your chest... it feels yucky and you will probably start to shiver even more but i swear to god it brings the temperature right down, almost immediately. but if you have a fever the best thing to do and it might not feel like the best thing is to not put so many blankets on yourself cause it just makes it worse. your trying to cool down not warm up even though you feel like your cold...
and of course lots of fluids... fevers usually only last 1-2 days ... if its something more severe then it will likely last longer.
but yeah hope your well matt123

I'll try it if I ever get a fever ;)

Bit late coming into this topic, but I know how you feel, OP. I came down with Legionnaire's disease three weeks before my VCE exams in 2008, although I didn't realise just how potentially lethal it was until several months on when I learned more about it. I couldn't study, watch TV or browse the web as that made me feel incredibly dizzy. I couldn't even get out of bed for two weeks to see a doctor; that's how bad it was. All I could do was sleep, and that's pretty much what I did for 20-22 hours every day until I eventually got over it. The last week before exams I still felt extremely nauseous and very weird all over, but I still had to tough it out and study.
Had I not come down with that horrific illness, I'd probably be at Melbourne now instead of Monash (since I only just missed the clearly-in for my first preference), which brings me to the point I want to make. If something isn't right, see a doctor ASAP. That's the one thing I regret not doing. Even though I'm happy at Monash, these are the kinds of things that can easily ruin your chances of getting into a certain course or gaining admission to a certain uni. The sooner you sort these problems out, the better. :)

I can imagine matt123 accidentally severing his leg off on a spoon and then coming on this site for advice for what he should do to stop the bleeding :D
