Title: What is everyone up to??
Post by: jsimmo on May 07, 2008, 05:43:15 pm
My class is currently doing 'Networked information systems' - starting 'Network hardware and software'.

I don't know why she is spending so much time on this chapter when it seems irrelevant to the course? (according to the SS we only need to know an overview of 'netwotk operating systems' and 'infomation systems').. My Outcome 2 (webpage) SAC is in 2 weeks..

because you'll need it for at least one of the SACs (desigining a network), as well as it being tested on in the exam :P

Yup - we are actually in the middle of our second outcome now (website for a virtual team).

Ohh nice, what do you have to do? I know we need to build a webpage and all but what exactly does it all involve?

probably a look-alike website where a virtual team can exchange ideas, files, all that.
remember to include different ways a virtual team can communicate, i.e.

IM (chat)/Video
forum
blog
uploading/downloading/version-tracking
news, updates, tasks (due dates, resources allocation, team members, all that)

the task might also ask you to make a front-end website for customers. in that case, remember to include security features for logging-in to the dev sections.

Oh, so it's a website for a virtual team that allows them to communicate with eachother and the webpage has to include possible ways they can communicate? A forum, a blog, news, updates, tasks? We don't have to build these do we lol? Just label them on a page?

I thought that I had to build a webpage for a specific company (according to case study) and just analyse the possible ways I could communicate and delegate "tasks" to my "virtual team".

these functions dont have to work, but make it a look-alike. they dont have to function :P

and it sounds a bit absurd to have to do this with a "virtual team" that doesnt actually exist... can you imagine all the made-up memos? hahaha

last year, we were split into groups, and worked as a virtual team [not allowed to talk, but still worked as a group]. except that was a total failure, because communication on the intranet was a total failure. :P
we ended up doing everything individually and extended the SAC 2 extra weeks, LOL

Sorry for late reply (and I guess lack of posting within the last few weeks, have had no internet connection  :(), but yeah, basically a website that will allow a virtual team to collaborate - share files, communicate with each other etc.

Our SAC is a stock outcome from VITTA - it's about these VCE students who want a website solution that will enable them to share all their VCE-related resources and information to assist other students. Wouldn't it be good if that website actually exisited...  ;)

Yeah, I have the same SAC - the 'VCE Victory' one? ( I started it today) - It seems SO much easier than the Database SAC

Yup, the exact one :) We've just finished ours - handed it in today actually. It was a lot easier and a lot more fun to do  than the database SAC.

Yeah it will be more fun than Database. How many webpages did you do?

These are mine: Welcome Page (front cover), Home Page, Register, Login, Forum, News, Calendar, Resources (external link to VCAA), Advice

I've just started the testing section - however, I still need to go back and fix some of the analysis and design.

Not many - basically what you've done except news and calendar is on one page, and Resources / Advice / other VCE stuff is all on one page.

Were you guys expected to develop a solution for a virtual team?

My brother was expected to start the waterfall method on the solution, but not actually implement it (to some degree). I think he deployed some kind of OTSS as the technical foundation for said software.
