Post by: menashiiii on November 05, 2010, 10:52:02 am
I'm pretty sure i got like 24/40
hope for a B?
what do you think cutoffs will be?

A+ will be around 36-37 I think :/ I screwed up just about all of q11 = -5 marks :/
Title: Re: Grade Cutoffs?
Post by: s0phie962 on November 05, 2010, 11:01:00 am
generally according to the past statistics, thats a mid B, but it really depends on how everyone else in the state goes
given that it is mid B, give or take it should be the same grade. congrats!

consequential marks ..if you still used you h in the first question and subbed it in

Last year's A+ cutoff was about 37...since this year I think was slightly harder, so maybe 35-36? Especially given not many people will have succesfully answered the cone/cylinder question.

lets hope A+ cut off is from 34 onwards .... coz from comparing my answers and looking at the uploaded exam again...I think I either lost 5 or 6 marks...SIGH CARELESS MISTAKES will haunt me for life now T.T

Would a High A+ Sac, mid A's paper 1, High A+ Paper 2 still get me into the 40's? Or I can kiss my uni course goodbye....

Worst I've ever done in a maths test.. ever... I got a higher mark the 1st time I did a practice paper... FML

anyone know that on the qns for g(x)=f(f(x)) if i forgot to square it so i got x^2 instead of X^4 and then in the next question would i get consequential marks for working out inverse then evaluating g-1(16) = 4 instead of 2? anyone?

Prob not. Since it was only a 1 mark question, they would be looking for just the answer.

Title: Re: Grade Cutoffs?

Cut off will  be about 36. A tad harder than last year's exam.

Well not harder, but alot of the state will not be able to do the last question, and they will get the value for B on the probability question wrong due to mistakes to do with the variance and the "less than"

I think exam one is 22% and exam 2 is 44%. So for anyone who screwed exam 1 don't stress too much because exam 2 counts twice as much! So anyone can redeem themselves haha.

i hate exam 2s with a passion.
I like it more just cos of the security of having the calc and notes if you get stuck. While with exam 1 there's nothing to hide behind haha.

I wonder if exam 2 will be easier or harder. I'm thinking it should be easier because our exam one was harder than previous years.

I wouldnt be surprised if it was just as hard. Spesh exam 1 was harder than probably the last 3 years and they showed us no mercy with exam 2 either.

It will be harder. The spesh exam 1 was harder than last years, and the spesh exam 2 was insane. You can expect it to be the same for methods.

I think a+ cutoff will be around 35. There was lots of room for errors with large numbers/fractions and it seems heaps of people struggled with the last question.

The last question on the paper was the most random shit ever!!! I've got 40/40 for every VCAA tech free from 2006, and ironically the one that counts is where my streak ends...
Also if you use the same h value (which was wrong) for parts (b) and (c), do you get full marks for the correct method or do you lose them because the answer's incorrect.

35/40 for A+? err the whole cone of death shiz was worth 5 marks. Im guessing most peeps got that wrong. Then there is the other mistakes people are gonna make for sure so i think we might see cut-off dip below mid-30's this year. (Ok im dreaming..lets hope it comes true) :D

I think this is calculated with a constant exam 2 score and sac mark.

It also depends on what you get in those.

If people were interested, i'd encourage them to try the calculator for themselves. You know what you have gotten in SAC's and you also know what you got in exam 1 roughly.

For SAC's i'd probably use 2009 data (doesn't change heaps year to year), Exam 1 2007 data maybe, Exam 2 2007 if you think itll be hard exam or 2008/2009 if you think itll be same standard as those years.

(2008&2009 data is remarkably similar for exams, so close together)

this is the SS purely from only exam 1. unless identical scores in GA 1 and GA3 occur, then different a SS
