Title: University?
Post by: rafito. on November 08, 2010, 10:06:40 pm
Okay, I'm a little confused with the whole university thing. Just want to know a few things.

If a prerequisite is 25 or above in Literature, and say I get 24 does that mean I am defiantly not going to be put in that course?

Also, I really want to get into Arts at La Trobe University however I don't think ill get that 25 in literature because it sucks! Is there any other way to get into the course?

Thank you!

They encourage you to apply anyway, who knows they still might pick you.

The chances probably aren't as high as it would be if you got that 25, if you have limited spots for your preferences i'd take this into consideration.

If not, just leave it there, whats the worst that could happen... you get in?

They may consider you, i asked this exact question a couple weeks back to someone at melbourne uni.

The chances aren't exceptional though.

Okay thanks, I'm just going to have faith and hope I get that 25. I would literally cry.

Anyways, I heard that you just have to make it to uni, and then you can change to any course you want. Is that true?
Like say I got into Biological Sciences at latrobe is it possible to change to the arts straight away?

No, otherwise everyone would be doing it. You can transfer but you have to complete some of your original degree first and get marks high enough to be accepted (they consider your enter as well). And there have to be places available.

As you are aware, the pre-requisites for the BSc are specific study in English, Mathematics and one of Biology, Chemistry or Physics, completed at either year 12 or tertiary level. Though the minimum study score for these pre-requisites is 25, we nonetheless encourage all students to apply.

Students can pick up missing pre-requisites by completing further study. The recommended pathways are completing the relevant VCE subjects at TAFE or the CAE, or enrolling in tertiary study - either in a Bachelors degree (in a course you are eligible for) or by single subject enrolment (i.e. CAP: http://www.unimelb.edu.au/community/access/)  ... blah blah bla

Anyway the thing to take away from that is there are other-ways

If you don't get the prerequisite, you can do summer courses, extra tests, that kind of thing. You should contact the university and see how flexible they are.
