what is the conversion thing for eV to joules?

eV  x  (1.6x10^-19) = J

J  /   (1.6x10^-19) = eV

Better than just knowing the number. 1 eV multiplied by the charge on an electron is equivalent to 1 Joule.

And to put the math into words, you simply have to know that 1ev is the amount of kinetic energy gained by a single unbound electron when it accelerates through an electric potential difference of one volt.
