because on the exam 1 report this year, the examiners said:
"This year all student papers were scanned and presented to assessors to mark online. Students must use blue or black
pen in Section A. Other coloured pens or pencil may not show up when the paper is scanned."

My friend wrote an email to VCAA regarding that.
i reply they said "It is advised you use a blue or black pen"
so you did not HAVE to use it. I wrote mine in pencil too.
I write quite dark soo im pretty sure it'll show up when scanned.
And if is was absolutely necessary then the ladies present during the exam wont ask "who needs a pencil?"
-
Yeah I raised this issue earlier this morning before going into the exam here on the forums and people said different things.
I asked the examiner and they stressed you had to use a pen, and made an annoucement to everyone else after my inquiry.
I'm sure they wouldn't fail your or anything..probably send out another warning in the assesessment report and only be critical next year.
They did not emphasize it enough for them to fail us because we used a pencil.
-
Meh, the same scan format applied in the midyears, I used pencil then and I was fine.
And as if they'd fail a massive proportion of students just for using pencil instead of pen ::)
-
i dont even get why they need to scan our exam to send to other assessors
cos apparently different assessors now mark bits and pieces of your paper... which is a bit impractical IMO..
anyway, i agree that if your pencil was dark enough, it should show up in the scanned copy
besides the supervisors at my school didn't even tell us anything about it, i'll blame it on them if worst comes to worst :p

If the scanners dont pick up the writting on the exam the examiners request to see the original and mark it seperatly - we were told this at a lecture by one of the examiners. No big deal at all.
