Hi everyone,
The website is now launched, check it out at www.vcestudyguides.com!!!
Hope you enjoy and learn something new! The site has had VCE teachers and tutors support it as well!
Also, don't forget to sign up to the daily facebook tips @ www.facebook.com/vcestudyguides - learn while you're procrastinating on facebook! lol.
Hi everyone,
I'm not sure how many of you know about this, but I am currently creating a free website with English study guides to help all students in their VCE studies. These study guides are written personally by myself, and I'm hoping that in future when there is an increase in demand, other students who have done well in English can come join me with their own knowledge.
Since it will be officially launching on March 1st next year, during the holiday period I will be attempting to write at least 4 study guides on particular English/ESL texts (so far I've done two study guides - both have taken me at least month to complete). The problem is, I'd like to know which texts 2011 students are doing so that my study guides are relevant and can cater to many of you. I've created this page so that students can tell me their ideas since ultimately, you are going to be the ones that benefit!
You can visit the website here at : http://www.vcestudyguides.com
Thanks for reading and I hope that many of you will be pleased with the website :)

Hey, this sounds awesome!! (y)
English is not my forte so these study guides will help a lot.
The novels that i will be studying are: Cosi (play), The Crucible and The Secret River :)
Thanks and Good luck with this :D

This is a great idea-I would recommend you to do Year of Wonders and On the Waterfront, since they are new texts. Otherwise, i can see this being very helpful for the cohort of 2011.
-

- Journeys Modern Australian Short Stories (Oakley)
- Kite Runner (HOSSEINI K)
- Stolen (HARRISON J)

Just out of curiousity, what is your purpose for righting these study guides?

writing* :P
I would assume to give students a helping hand with their english texts, as many students do struggle with dissecting texts and exploring different ideas and themes of the text etc...

Pretty sure he meant in terms of what she has to gain out of it herself. In that regard, I assume proving her proficiency at the subject which then serves as a significant form of advertisement in itself. Then of course there's self satisfaction, a sense of altruism and whatnot.

Here are my texts:
Identity and Belonging:
- The Member of the Wedding
- Growing Up Asian in Australia
Text Response:
- Interpreter of Maladies
- The Old Man Who Read Love Stories
I intend to write study guides for all of these, plus one for language analysis, so I shall send them over once they are done!

To cambridge:
Wow, thanks! I haven't really thought of anyone else providing their study guides but that would be fantastic! thank you :)
To onerealsmartass (nice name ;) ):
I basically came around to doing this because
1) I find that a lot of students have very similar issues in English so why not save their time and just try and help tackle those issues in one place - I'm very excited to be starting a blog along with the study guides discussing all sorts of those issues. So yes, like you said it's basically to help students and let them have a greater insight to texts.
2) I find that I get quite a few students asking me if I can tutor them but very often I'll have enough students on my plate. So hopefully in some way, I can help them indirectly with this website.
3) As a personal note, I've recently found that I'm not in my favourite position at the moment because I've realised that the course I'm doing isn't the right one for me so I've needed to do something exciting and motivating for myself. Tutoring is honestly, and possibly very lamely, the best part of my day. So why not use my knowledge to create a website and help others simultaneously?
And to shinny:
I suppose it is advertising in some ways, but I'd rather advertise the site itself and have everyone excited about the content than the focus to be
the creator :)
To everyone else: I'm thinking of definitely doing On the Waterfront and Cosi at the moment. Please add more of your thoughts!
Thanks everyone!

Well as term 3 is about to start, I think creating a guide about how to study for the end of year exams would be very beneficial for alot of students. And also what the assessors will be looking for in exams.
I would definitely like that anyways :D
P.S.-The texts I'm studying are The Rugmaker of Mazar-E-Sharif and Twelve Angry Men+On the Waterfront
-
that's a great idea! i'll look into it - there's so much you can do when it comes to end of year exams so maybe i'll even make a booklet on it :)
