I was wondering.. for Methods (and Further as well for that matter) would it be a good idea to go all the way to the 1997 exams? Or would there be little relevance?
-
maybe for tech-free, but I am sure that tech active exams would have changed a lot with the introduction of CAS
-
I stayed with the 2010 ones lol, but then again i didnt do very many pracs... a few 08 and 09s here and then.
I think they get harder as you go back, but some of the 2010 ones are quite difficult as well so imo stay with the more current ones.

Would it be that the newer ones (CAS exams) are harder than the others because of more advanced technology?

It's not that there's little relevance. It's more the fact that if you're going to go all the way back to 1997 exams, you're doing way too many practice exams.

Haha kyzoo didn't you do like 200 prac exams for methods? :P
-
Is it bad to do too much? I thought maths was about practicing.

lol, in yr 12 I'll be aiming for 20-30 tops (if that!)

not if it burns you out and get really nervous. more exams = more self-pressure (from what I have heard)
-
Oh. So would it be decent then to at least complete the ones from 2006 to now?
-
I did almost nothing when the methods exams was coming up cos i believed chillax = more calm = do better. all in all i think i did maybe 10 prac exams properly, and a few unproperly. in all honesty if i did another 30 prac exams to prep i would have scored the same. just came down to how i was feeling on the day. so don't waste paper and hurt your head :P

But if I were to finish off the course during the holidays would it be okay to do alot of practice exams throughout the year?
-
Or maybe like one a week or so? XD
-
Finishing the course during holidays doesn't mean you start prac exams straight after. You have to perfect what you learnt for a few more weeks. Then once you hop into practice exams, after about 10 you should be full marking or close to... then you only need one or two exams per week

I am going to finish the course in one textbook (eg Essentials) and then through the year work through the schools textbook (MQ unfortunately) so that I get two sets of different questions done for the course. Maybe a prac exam on a weekend when I can be bothered...
-
Starting prac exams in term 4 is sufficient to score a 50, there's no rule saying you HAVE to start early
-
If you get there. But it's best to do the new 2010 CAS exam 1's, and as many exam 2s from 2006-2010 as you can. All else is a bonus.
-
If you have spare time, it wouldn't hurt to do them. Or even if you're looking for prac exam q's without actually considering them as "real" exams, do them.
-
Okay thanks for the tips guys :)
