Title: URGENT: Will I get in with these scores? :D
Post by: werdna on November 23, 2010, 11:02:50 pm
I am applying for CRIMINAL JUSTICE at Monash University as an Enhancement Subject. (Legal Studies is the preparatory study obviously :D)

These are my Semester 1 Report grades:

- Chemistry 1&2 (S) = D, A, A, A
- English 3&4 (S) = S, S, S
- Latin 1&2 (S) = A+, A, B, A+, A
- Legal Studies 1&2 (S) = A+, A+, A+
- Methods 3&4 (S) = S, S, S

Do they look at the 3&4 subjects as well, even though they are not the preparatory study? I did really well on the English SACs, but the exam was dreadful.

What are my chances of getting in with these scores?

And are we allowed to send in a personal statement in the application?

Scores are excellent for a year 10, they should definitely get in. The D would be a concern if you had a couple more in other subjects, but it seems you are coping fine, so there is no reason they shouldn't let you in.

they do look at your 3/4 score.... I got a 33 in indonesian sl and they said that was the reason i didnt get in. They said i needed above forty to get in, which i complained about but to no avail. I also scored similar grades to you in year 11.... Basically yes they do look at your 3/4 scores so be prepared for any outcome

Haha taiga, I'm in year 11. :D

andy456, which enhancement subject did you apply for? :S It wouldn't be a good thing if they relied on my 3&4 study scores.. the subject Criminal Justice only has the preparatory study Legal Studies... so it would be unfair to rely my fate on the English and Methods study scores...

I applied for criminal justice studies also..... I thought it was extremelly unfair to predict my performance on the result on a totally unrelated subject [i mean a language. How the hell does indo relate to justice]. well all you can do is apply and hope for the best...... you might get in or you might not....... The worst that can happen is that they reject you but if they do youll get over it quickly..... all the best either way.

What...... if they rejected you over a 33 in INDONESIAN.. I'm sure they're going to reject me over a 25 - 30 in English and Methods. (my exams were dismal failures)

nah your underestimating yourself man... Im sure youll do fine in english and methods..... Ive read some of your stuff on the english boards and its golden.... And dont worry about methods everyone i know found it brutal...... Dont spend 2 months worrying about it

LOL my English exam was horrid!! Didn't even START the last essay.. hence, I'm repeating it next year.

Are we allowed a personal statement for the Monash application?

I dont remember writing a personal statement but it was a long time ago......
you may not have finished your 3rd essay but im sure your other 2 are better than most...

I dont see why you wouldnt get in, here are my test/exam marks throughout this semester

English : A+,A,A,B+,B+,B+,B+         exam: A/C+ (2 essays)
Accounting : A+,A,A+,A+              exam: A+
MM CAS: A,A+,A,A+,A+,A+,B+,B+   exam: A/B
GMA spesh: D,B,UG,B+,A+,C+         exam: dunno yet
Chemistry: A+,B,A+,A,B+               exam: D
Japanese: A+,A+,A+,A+,A+,A+,A+,A,A+,A,A+ exam: dunno yet

despite my decent average in Chemistry I managed to hit a D in the exam since our teacher used a commercial paper on us and the average in that exam was a B :\ I just felt like giving up in that exam

same with my GMA, since I knew I wasn't doing it I dont even want to know the mark *shudders*

do you think I'd still be able to get in if they notice the marks + the fact that im not going to be taking them next year?

I remember telling them about my dismal GMA marks and they said it wouldnt matter too much but I think I just need reassurance since Jan 14th (offer release day) is getting closer >.<

I got in at Melbourne with a 38 in English. I think they look at the letter grades rather than the score as such, so if you got A A A 37, or something, they'd still let you in. But, you might have trouble with something like B+ A A 37.

In any case, your year 11 scores look good enough and you seem to satisfy the A average requirement in related areas. There's no way of telling before your 3/4 results come out though, and even then, there's no sure way until you get your acceptance/rejection letter. Sorry!

I haven't looked at your scores nor do I plan to, I can still say you can get in with your scores. I got in, you can definitely get in.

Looks like your marks are mostly A/A+/B+ which is what they're looking for on Average.
The ones that aren't are not related to the area you are applying for (that is GMA spesh and Chemistry).

I think you should be fine with getting in but for any concrete answers, you'll have to wait until January. All the best with your application.
