Yes, we totally should. :)

But I think my school is only getting a few texts exam-ready (the rest we use for SACs).

Nothing, AK-47 was upset because he had read Emma 4 times in anticipation of year 12. It then turned out that Emma would not be studied at our school!

You scored 47 for literature! Is there any tips that you can give the 2011 cohort?

oh lol, I see.

Um, really study the structure of the Literature essay itself, or at least really get your own personally preferred structure downpat. Then you need to work on methods of analysing what you get, how you're going to deal with the passages if you don't like them, what are some basic things that most passages will guarantee you.
it's all abuot practising handling hte passages, because most people know the texts already in lit, its just being able to handle random passags and write a fantastic essay.
tbh I'm not very good at giving advice because I wasn't expecting my english marks to be so high LOL.
talk to ez, give him a pm :)

I got stuck with:

The Bacchae and other Plays
Collected stories of Catherine Mansfield
This Boy's Life by Tobias Wolff
Emma by Jane Austen (ugh Jane Austen)
We're also studying the film Persepolis (based off the graphic novel)

Oh God. Katherine Mansfield. Try and avoid it. Luckily (last year) we decided we didn't want to study her short stories after all.

Have you read her biography? I remember first reading her wikipedia page. She had one of the weirdest lives.

I remember my Lit teacher mentioning that she was strange, but no, I haven't looked into that yet.
I probably should, considering.
...I've just been trying to choke down Emma - it's the first thing we study, and I can understand it and all, but it's just so dry and (seemingly) petty.
I could manage Wuthering Heights last year, which was great, but Emma is just... ick.

Le gasp! BBC brought out a new Emma mini series last year. I recommend everyone watch it. Most likely it isn't 100% accurate, but it's really good! This is one of my favourite Austen adaptations, it's very lively. If any of you watch Atonement for lit (or just to watch it for fun) the girl who plays the 20 year old version of Briony is the one who plays this Emma.

Cinnah, I'm reading Emma atm, I find it humorous and enjoyable read xD, up to chapter 10. Volume 1, but its not for school, just for fun lol! ;x

I did watch the BBC series, the guy who played Knightly did very well :D
I got the audiobook from http://librivox.org/ on my iPod too, which has made it that little bit easier.

I'm up to chapter 8 in volume one,
I don't know, I just really don't like Austen.
I had to study Pride and Prejudice for year 10 lit... but I still haven't read it. xD

This is why I'm trying my very hardest to get through it now, and get that Lit score up.

Definately. I think I'm the only person in my class who actually liked Atonement, it's weird as. We're doing the SAC for that on text vs. text. Comparing the book to the movie. And I really struggle with those essays, so I'll need all the help I can get xD

This year for Literature I'm doing:

Frankenstein - Mary Shelly
The Rose Notes - Andrea Mayes
Wolf Notes - Judith Beveridge
The Tempest - William Shakespeare
Wide Sargasso Sea - Jean Rhys

I decided to pick Literature up this year because English was one of my strongest subjects in Year 11. It's interesting doing such a subject where you have almost complete freedom with your writing. I still haven't quite got my head around it yet; I probably work better with directions and a set structure. The variety of novels I'm reading though, should make Literature this year quite enjoyable!

- This Boy's Life
- Chinatown
- The Boat
- Hamlet
- The poetry of William Blake
- A Passage to India

Lit's ridiculously easy - just verbose, sesquipedalian bullshit (how about that for hendiadys?), and you'll secure yourself a comfortable A+ with any examiner.

The Tempest - William Shakespeare
The Aunt's Story - Patrick White
The Hunter - Julia Leigh
Tennyson's poems...

Our school chose some odd books to do, still don't get why my teacher threw White in the pile. It killed everyone.

yeah its great, and you can pretty much pull anything from it because it is so abstract..
but i am so not prepared as i could be.
so, planning on winging it a bit..
i love reading it as opposed to writing about it.
