Which to choose? Advice? Suggestions? General Comments???
-
It really depends. They are both good subjects. (I only do further maths, however most of the people I have spoken to say they have really enjoyed revs) It's hard for us to advise you when we don't know what your interests and strengths are specifically.
Look over the study designs(http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/studies/history/revolutions/revolutionindex.html and http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/studies/mathematics/further/furthermathindex.html) of each carefully, and consult with your teachers. Your marks and level of enjoyment for both your maths and history subjects which you are doing this year will be a good guide as to what subject would be best for you to undertake.
Some other things you might consider:
-What career you wish to pursue
-Subject requirements for courses you're interested in.
Personally if I had my time over again I'd probably choose History because I'm really fascinated by it, and I love the look of the study design. Also I'm not finding further maths challenging at all. But that's just me.
Jess :)

I've got it all sorted (except for the choice of one of these 2).....
Chem/Methods are the prereqs
Rennaissance is the 3/4 in year 11
Going to do Uni History (as one of my subjects)
Have to do English
So now my 6th subject
To do another history which is apparently a lot of work, but undoubtfully for me: Interesting
Or to maximise my enter score by doing further maths, and having some relaxing time in class: though it probably isnt interesting as revs
DECISIONS DECISIONS =/
I could drop the UMEP subject and do both but NAAAAAAAAAAA

Looks like history is coming out on top (in my opinion). It would also complement the UMEP history perfectly.
I'd strongly suggest doing a subject you're interested and challenged by. I went into further maths with the same idea, however I am bored and really regret it. I wish I'd done maths methods. I was an idiot lol.

ok being very biased
revolutions is way better than maths
but u need to do alot of reading in revs...do alot of extended response answers...be interested in revolutions, i did russia and china both interesting i reckon... and yeah just keep on pace because if you fall behind you won't know what's up...
as for maths... i just hate maths can't stand stupid formula crap and equations...
-
i've done both and trust me history was way easier
it was so easy to make mistakes in maths even though i did heaps of prac exams for further i made heaps of mistakes cos it's just so tricky
did wayyyyyyy more work for further and barely any for history and in the end i got a better score for history so i reckon it's easier

Correction: history is the most boring crap you could do ever in your life. It'll be worse than watching gay pornography. Solving problems in Math is more challenging, expands your mind, improves your thinking. So math ftw.

Surely a bit of an overstatement...
-
I'd say you're already doing too many history subjects lol... do further maths ^_^
-
FURTHER!!!! its easy peasy

I want to know why your course needs chem and methods if you seem to be interested in humanities subjects :P
-
do Revs! Clearly from your other subjects you are good at humanities subjects. If you do uni hist. then Revs will seem a breeze - especially given that the uni melb extension program semester 1 is revolutions - except from what I hear you do about15 different one- ie The French Revolution - to The Teenage Revolution (or something of a similarly jovial nature...), industrial revolution etc...
So if you do do revs - you will have been given a university standard overview which can only help your revs study. Also revs is an easier subject to rens and you will have already mastered the skills needed. So you will already have an idea of the work required to do a history- ie reading- but because you have already done one you will be able to better manage it.
As further there is little margin for error! And you may find it boring.
Hence go for the more interesting subject and do Revs! `

he wants to be a doctor :P
but it seems like he should do genealogy :P

People can have a variety of interests. I love science (biology, physics and psychology) and humanities (history, politics and literature). I find it weird how people box themselves (and other people) in as a science/maths person or a humanities person.

LOL really limited thinking here.
"Expands your mind"??
Personally, I think that if someone concentrated on maths subjects and maths subjects only, they wouldn't have a very "expanded" mind at all.
History expands your mind, too. EVERYTHING you learn expands your mind.

I would suggest if you want to do a History in year 11 and one in year 12, that it would be easier to do Revs in year 11. I did Revs in year 11 and I'm now doing Renaissance, and I'm finding Renaissance more difficult than Revs (although Ren is way more interesting).
I would think it would be better to do the easier history in year 11 and do the harder one in year 12 (and then you would have gained all this experience at being able to write answers and being able to study for a 3/4 history, etc).
And don't do Further Maths. From what I've heard (from my friends) it's really boring and they wish they did another subject. And if you lose a few marks here and there your grade goes down a lot (you have to be perfect to get a high score in it).
So... choose history, but just swap the order around.

Only a really ignorant individual would regurgitate such an uninformed, offensive and utterly disdainful comment. Really classy man! I really like the way you think.. or not.

this is the battle of numeracy vs humanities
[its never going to end :P ]
and btw, I just noticed [completely off topic as well] that:
Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) @ The University of Melbourne (deferred until 2009)
PSYCHOLOGY IS AN ART!!! :P

Just found my new sig :P.

Again, I'm a biased person, but I'd say go for Revs. I think it's a fabulous subject! A few marks dropped in further can really be costly, and it's a marked down subject, which is not the case for Revs. And - I see that you're doing UMEP History, which I've heard is basically about Revolutions. So think about it this way - UMEP History+VCE Revs=1.5 subjects :P You'll get a decent overlap, but not enough to make you bored of it. So in effect, by doing your reading for one of those subjects, you've already done a lot of reading for the other, which saves you a good amount of time. I'm in the same situation, but with different subjects - I'm doing VCE English Language, but I'm also taking UMEP Linguistics, and I'm finding that they really complement each other nicely, having been through a whole semester already. Hope that helps somewhat :)
-
yeah revs, itll help you with UMEP, i have a mate who does UMEP and he had all this extra reading for the Russian revolution...

Since when? Since you said it was?

Why do people incessantly have this Arts vs Science debate, it achieves nothing. If Science students spent half the time they spent baiting Arts students, we'd probably have eternal life already! Grow up!
-
Yes, the Arts Vs Science debate seems to be highly prevalent on this forum, as highlighted by an "Arts criticism thread" which surfaced some time ago. Some people just have nothing better to do than to post provocative and offensive material in an attempt to detract from the actual topic being dealt with.

Do something different. You already have a maths and history subject so why not go for something different? Experiment with a different subject instead of focussing on a streams of subjects your already doing it...
Personally i find those who do the 'asian 5' as people who are so scared of trying something different that they just go for what their good at, or are so scared to not achieve the enter score their parents want them to get.

It's possible to major in Maths in an Arts Degree (in Oxford and Cambridge especially)
OH NOES Maths is an ART!
