Title: Cantonese as a subject? Anyone heard about this too?
Post by: sundayrose on December 06, 2010, 03:44:42 pm
The other day I heard that cantonese is a VCE subject. I checked on the VCAA and I can't find the subject in the index though.
I also heard from some other sources that cantonese was in the VCE now but I can't find any info on it.
Has anyone heard about this too?

Cantonese as a Language? :o

But cantonese is based on Chinese Characters, just pronounced differently. And finalizing the separation of 1st/2nd language citeria would be one hell of a job.

Don't see it coming. :P

Yeh it used to have its own Chinese characters until someone burned all the books.

And cantonese is Chinese dialect and since mandarin is the most commonly spoken Chinese dialect, vcaa uses it

So cantonese is not a VCe subject...however Chinese revolution is

Yeap. 9 intonations for Canto and Mando has 4, I believe. It will be a bitch to learn. Also, I find Canto to be a rather colloquial language. Can't really see it being taught

LOL the King at the time burnt them all, including all the other chinese dialects besides one; which i am assuming to be mando.

It's better this way; else there would be 50 chinese dialects each with their on set of characters hahaha
