I just cant believe i only got a 39..Wow, not even 40 what the hell!
Means i got a low A+?
how to get statement of marks? if i had gotten a mid - high A+

A+, A+, A, Study Score: 42

Ok, I got caught off-guard with that result.  That wasn't what I wanted, though initially my prediction was for 40-45.  Has anyone seen the grade distributions yet for IT?

For the statement of marks there is a form on the VCAA site that you print, fill out and mail/fax back. I know I'll be ordering one myself now.

OMG WHAT?
You got an..A for your exam
I got an A+ for my exam
A+ are handed out to top 10% of the state
40+ study score is given to the top 8%

?So my SACs screwed me over? Im actually going to upload my SACs for everyone to see how in depth those 30 pages of blood and sweat were.

Same except A+ for the exam.. I mustn't have done too well on the SACs, I guess? Lol :)

I'd assume you only just scraped the A+?
Sometimes, your cohort will also bring you down, if they sucked completely, but you were rank 1, so i don't know..
Also, unit 1 has no relevance to your study score..
Badluck though, atleast you got into the 40's!

Oh, really? So you got your principal to sign it and all? Cause that means your getting it reassessed? How'd that work out, i was thinking of getting my SACs reassessed, they weren't to upset?
Title: Re: IT SCORE
Post by: lachlanwilliam on December 15, 2010, 12:39:24 am
OK,
i lied haha. i only ticked the statement ones, and the "go to VCAA" to see your exam haha....

I mean, i just dont understand at all how it's calculated. I mean, dont get me wrong im happy with 42, its a good score...just how is it calculated... I didnt try to hard on SACs and still managed a 99.5% average on them haha, and then say 90% for the exam, 94.75% all together for example (If its a true 50/50 split), which means approximately 8% of the state got over 94.75%, so say theres 1,000 people doing IT, that means 80 got higher than 94.75....
orrr am i completely offtopic and have no idea what im talking about haha

A+, A+, A+

Study score: 44

What'd you get for each of your SACs? If you don't mind me asking....

I'm not sure. My teacher never told anybody the actual marks on their SACs. I got VH for all of them (which is the equivalent to an A+). My ranking in SACs was either first or second; there was a small discrepancy between my SAC marks and one other classmate, according to the teacher.

Fair enough,
There ended up being a 2/3% difference betweeen, me who was top of my class and number two of my class

The percentage marks for your SACs aren't terribly meaningful. Usually, your SAC scores are used to sort your class into a ranking, your position in which has a much more adverse affect on your study score. This system is designed (albeit controversially) to eliminate the advantage that teachers would have if they gave all of their students very high marks for their SACs.

In your case, I believe that your study score of 42 owes chiefly to the mark you got on your exam. Usually, A+ on all three graded assessments can guarantee you at least 40, though there are cases of people getting scores in the high 30s. With what would probably be high A+ grades for the SACs in both units, I would predict that you got an exam that was in the low A+ range, which is why you got a score that is lower than you might have expected.

If you're still unsure and you want to look in to it, you can order a Statement of Results from VCAA. It tells you not only your mark out of 180 (your original score doubled), but also your marks for each question on the exam.

Good luck with the rest of your studies. :)

same as lachlanwilliam, i was second in my class with my SACs being a 98.5% average with an A+ on the exam and i only got 41. my class average was pretty low though so that must have affected it.

still annoyed though

Hey hudsi :D,
Im blaming the rest of our classs. we shoulda got higher than 41/42 haha :D

42 is still a good score, but you knowww me, i want the top :P
haha!

It does however mean i get a MacBook Air ;)
changed my mind to an iPad and a HVLF42AM flash for my camera haha, thats why I asked :)

That's strange.  In that case, how on earth did I get 42 when I only got an A on the exam?  I suppose it could do with the mildly strong cohort we had.  The highest study score was 45 raw, though I was ranked no 1 in the SACs (darn exams lol)

Yeaaaaaaah! haha so jealous.. i wish I had your class then :P

Out of curiosity, how do you actually get your exam remarked?  I thought it would have been impossible...

No no, not at all!
When you get your study score through the mail, in the same envelope comes a thing which gives you the option to:
- Get your exam remarked
- Get VCAA officials to come to your school and check SACs
- Get your statement of marks (how many questions you had right/wrong

the charges are $10.00, $20.00, $10.00 respectively.

You can get your teacher to go over your exam with you at school or at the VCAA. You will be told how mayn marks you were given for a question, if you and/or your teacher disagree, you can then tell the VCAA and order a remark!

ok that's odd.  when i got my study score in the mail, i got the statement of results, the gat results, the competencies I achieved in my VET subject and then a form to order a statement of marks, statement of study score and inspection of scripts.  there's a pamphlet that describes a 'confirmation of grades', but nothing else as you've described

A+ A A 39

My SAC marks should be A+ A+... incompetent teacher.

Dude, i totally understand, I find it impossible that from a high B, my SACs were moderated to an A because of my exam mark, surely they an A+ student for exams would not get B's for his SACs right? Every question I had on the SAC, i answered to the best of my ability and none of my SACs were fewer than 25 pages (although, this included screenshots of things like databases, slides etc)
Therefore I will be taking it to the next step and be getting my SACs remarked, exam remarked (maybe an extra 1 or 2 points will come my way :D) and my statement of marks too, I suggest that you at least get your SACs remarked.

For those interested, I got 100% on all my SACS through the year to end up with my 50. My teacher was a lenient marker and lots of kids had 90% + for each of their SACS. Another student in my cohort went into the exam with 100% SAC marks throughout the year ( = first with me in the cohort) but ended up with only a 45.

hey,
i've been kind of stalking evryone's it study score and seems you guys did really well aand deserved higher study scores, this may be kind of irrelevant, but what exactly is a cohort?there is only about 5 people doing IT next yr at my school (including me), and most of them make stupid mistakes like forget an entire section etc. does this mean that my score will be lowered next yr becuase we haven't got a very strong 'cohort'?
good work guys!

according to my teacher, that's what happened to me and my score was good enough for a 40+ if i was in the average cohort, HOWEVER, according to the VCAA on somewhere on the FAQ section, this is not true

+1, as long as you are in the top of your cohort (cohort = students in your school doing the same subject), no matter what your cohort can not pull you down

I just got my statement of marks back,
my results were as follows:
MC: 19/20 (38/40)
SA:  56/70 (112/140)
For a total score of 150/180
I lost some surprising marks.. weird, i thought I answered most of the marks that i lost correctly, and yet i got full marks for some questions i most definitely answered wrong lol
anyone get their SoM ?
Title: Re: IT SCORE
Post by: ttn on January 07, 2011, 11:59:01 pm
Yeah I got mine.

MC: 19/20 (38/40)
SA: 55.5/70 (111/140)
Total score: 74.5 (149/180)

looks like your sac ranking pulled you down by a lot.

I think I've got a very bad/dodgy/harsh marker though. For 10 of the qns, I got an odd number as the final mark and being only one away from the max. fkn lame...
One of them even marked my Q2 wrong, one of them gave me full marks (3/3), the other gave me (2/3).
How is that even possible for that type of qn, there were only right or wrong answers, nothing in between...

I'll scan it and post it up later for yous to see.

I want to go on a rampage and shoot my teacher..I could have gotten a 43, or maybe even a 44. God damn..

Although, I thought my marking was screwred up too, I ended up getting a 0 for a question, which i thought i would have gotten right, or even 2-3 marks, and yet for another question which i was positive i screwed up, i got full marks.
I'm fairly sure i lost some marks which i shouldn't have, there is no way i got a conventions question wrong..

Not sure if i posted in this thread already but i got 35 only.

I was seriously expecting much higher.... at least 40.

It turns out, at least at my school, i thought everyone was doing terrible n the sacs but there were people who were doing extremely well. SAC's drag down your marks by a lot. Finishing VCE this year i've noticed it across all my subjects ive got a score for.
