In the legacy of this: http://vcenotes.com/forum/index.php/topic,8634.0.html, I've compiled a list of the VNers who achieved 40+ in any VCE subject. Information was gathered from: http://vcenotes.com/forum/index.php/topic,35173.0.html, so the list might not be as comprehensive as it can be; PM me if you've been left out (in which case please post your raw study scores) or if you would like to have your name removed.
STATISTICS (so far)
VN has achieved a total of:
- 55 study scores of 50 in 18 different subjects
- 6 perfect ATAR scores
- A median ATAR score of 98.00
Congratulations to all!

@fuzzylogic
You awesome you!
-
thushan, ur mad for doing 6 subjects next year.
ull easuly crak .95 with just german spec english nd chem...
why make it harder for urself?
-
Good question, everyone's been asking me the same:
I guess I don't know what to drop, and I need insurance
-
dont do muep chem, waste of itme
nd physics is stupid with a shit markup.
trust me, mr. hettige, the 2 subject u did this year are mnore than enough insurance - i got 49 in meth biol last year and fukd up big time this year, sftill to get a 99.65 - ull be ifne.
drop phys and muep
-
Good question, everyone's been asking me the same:

Do English + English Language. It will be a ballbreaker, but very good insurance.
I'd probably drop Physics if I were you, unless you really like it or need it for your course.
I hear you can't drop very many marks in it for 50.
-
@fuzzylogic what were your GAT scores like, if it's not too bold to ask...
-
Thanks for the suggestions!
@10weid:
Chem's my best subject, and I'm doing Chem Olympiads (trying out for Australian team) next year so MUEP chem is highly useful, if not essential. I was considering dropping physics, but my dad (who did physics at school) stamped on that idea.
And yup, you can't drop many marks to get a 50. Same goes for almost every subject bar bio
And how did you find out my last name? Do we know each other, or did you stalk me in the paper? :P
@stonecold:
English and English Language? Ball-breaker...you can say that again! I didn't like English at school, and it's a bit late for me to pick up English 3/4, having done EngLang 1/2. Anyway, my GAT shows that my English skills are mediocre at best...(31/40 -> 42 for WC).
@funkyducky:
Fuzzylogic is too awesome for the GAT :D
-

Yeah no worries, but just consider it. I did a very crappy version of 1/2 English in Year 11. Didn't help at all with 3/4, so you don't need it.
You will probably be fine, but the only reason I push the idea is because you're looking for 99.95, and you obviously need a good English score for that. In the small chance you have a shocker of a day on the English language exam, and say get low 40s, this may hurt your chances.
The backup English can be your savior in such a situation.
Edit: Oh and GAT is a load of crap. I got 28 for Written Comm in 2009 and 38 this year, and well you can see the rest.
-

I did Lit 1/2 and am doing English 3/4...my Lit teacher said it was a good choice and that I'd find English really easy in comparison. If I could I would take EngLang, but they don't have it at my school :( and I don't want to do Distance Ed.
-
I would like to take this opportunity to say CONGRATULATIONS and WELL DONE to all of you! (:
-
Good question, everyone's been asking me the same:

I've always wanted to see someone get 7 raw 50s.
Here's the man for the job :P
-
funky ducky, GAT is rubbish, theres no use to compare
i got a 38 in science LOL, not sure how that correlated to 49 in spesh
so thushan im pretty sure u wont' get 42 in english language
-

It's simple, thushan: drop physics. :)

Hahaha, I wish I was too awesome for the GAT. but yeah, funkyduck, it's not worth worrying about! let's just say, i'm glad I didn't get a derived score, except for humanities. LOL i knoew i should have done history and econmics and legal and IS.

How did this NOT yield a 99.95?
But wow... legendary.
Proves you don't have to do super-scaling subjects like Spec or LOTEs to get a score like that!
-
^That's only - haha 'only' :buck2: - 4 50s. Without a post 50 score that means he'd need two 40s as well..
-
Yeah, I had a media and theatre in the 30s as my 10%ers.

I think she's asking if Wilby opted out of having his scores published.
-
Hmm.. I'd be a bit wary of his scores too. Wilby has only posted 4 times here.. BUT if these scores are legit, then well done Wilby, because 4 50s is awesome!
-
I thought people might be sus. Apologies for being a lurker... :P
And yeah, I had my name out of the paper. Perhaps not the best idea as it turned out, but ah well :P.

thanks avo.. ur the best .. althou, my skool isnt that bad but honestly its sht.. its just ur own effort which gets u everything.. teachers dnt play a part in my opioion, but i can swear we learnt not 1 thing in IT from the teacher.. i was the only student who got 36 and everyone got 28 30,33 and under.. also that the teacher didnt even care... it was all with my effort getting 36. on the otherhand, the 39 was a shame, id never done genral maths, then i came in late cauz i had just come bak from overseas 2 weeks late.. and i stuffed up my first SACs, ranked one of the last.. then i caut up in the next 3 sacs and got 16/48(or something) students. and on the exam i got 35/40 for the first exam, and idk about the second... i was surprised with 39 i expected something like 43 but ohh well.. i only want to get into architeture anyway.

lol mr iraq 49 prac papers

disappointment
Thats nothing too disappointing, really. This is:
I know someone (yr11 last year) who did 250+ hours of bio, and well over 60 prac exams in total. He told me that: "If you get less that 40, that would look so crap on a CV" (after I got an 'A' midyear and he got 'A+'). That was my inspiration to put in around 13-14 hours into Unit 4 (see here for full info ON WHAT NOT TO DO). He ended up with a 39... (raw)
(I feel sorry for him actually, he got A+ on both exams...)

The difference between me and him is, i will commit suicide if i don't get 45 + :|
That is dedication in its purest form but clearly I do not endorse suicide.

Okay.
Who is this guy, did he even get academics in year 9/10?

chill mate.
year 11 subject isn't the be all and end all.

Academic awards in yr 9 and 10 differentiate between those who like PE and those who don't.
That guy didn't get one.

I think the only difference is that he found the balance between "getting in there" and studying.

+1, academic awards in year 9 and 10 are for the MHS alpha-nerds (such as the guy in my class last year who didn't even know the school had two cricket nets ???)... It in year 11 and 12 where the ranking starts to matter, and only a few yr 9 and 10 academic award winners get them again (and after that, who cares?).
-
I'm not saying Yr 9 /10 academic awards are important, I'm saying their a good indicator of who you can expect to do better on average in VCE - As a very general rule
This. The ACA award differentiates on PE, History and Geography - 'nuff said.
-
Okay. You did way better on me than history, pe and geo...
I got C's and D's on them....
Anyway.
people who get ACA ARE GENERALLY PEOPLE WHO GIVE A F***.
People who give a f*** are more likely to put time in to school.
people who put time into school are more likely to do well at school.
People who do well at school are more likely to get a higher ATAR.....
GENERALLY
