Title: Pathway to rehabilitation counsellor
Post by: uhmmaybe on December 15, 2010, 10:56:00 pm
I want to be a rehabilitation counsellor and I've found that I need a master in counselling. I'm unsure what undergraduate course I need in order to do this. Here's the link to the master degree http://www.monash.edu/study/coursefinder/course/3236/domestic-requirements.html
Can someone help interpret the requirements? What does it mean by "approved"?
I've applied for a bachelor of science but I'm not sure if this will lead me to this master degree.

yep

from my understanding of looking at the links

its basically you need to do a three year undergraduate degree... now it would probably help you if this was relevant to being a counsellor... so i guess in BSc you can major in psychology or some type of education degree or arts or there is a counselling undergrad but its in gippsland http://www.monash.edu.au/study/coursefinder/course/1731/

u also need to complete this
http://www.education.monash.edu.au/students/prospective/docs/mic-supplementary-form2011.pdf
now u will c they take these factors into account when they select students
Academic merit 35%
Work history and relevant practical experience 15%
Interview process and referee reports 50%

so im guessing u have to b really motivated and if you can find some work experience in that field thats like 15% and youll have to achieve great grades as well in ur undergraduate

so its definitely not guaranteed but if you put in the hard work and get some work experience you will have a good chance of getting in i reckon

and if you want further clarification i would recommend you call them up and talk it through with them

np

also take into consideration the fact that there is no CSP for that masters course and you will have to pay $21400

You can apply for FEE HELP though, which means that while you have to pay the entire sum, you can defer it for later and pay it off slowly and without interest.

I rather misinterpreted the thread title; I thought uhmmaybe was sufficiently distressed by her scores to want to seek help :P

         Good Luck :)
