Hi everyone, just asking for some advice :)
I'm thinking about getting a statement of marks and possibly having my english exam inspected and just wanted to ask if anybody knew whether my study score could actually be changed, or is it just a waste of time.
You see I was extremely lucky in the english exam. In section 'A' there was a question relating to Interpeter of Maladies which I had done in a school sac, which scored 28/30, and the prompt in section 'B' was very much alike to the school sac prompt, which scored 29/30.
I rewrote both pieces in the exam (section A exactly, as it was the exact same question and section B with a slighty different contention to better suit the prompt).
My language analysis wasn't great, but it wasn't absolute crap.
These were my grades throughout the year
Unit 3 - 90/100 - Mid A+ based on 08/09
Unit 4 - 84/100 - Highest possible A based on 08/09
with my end result being A,A,B (33)
To drag a mid 'A+' (Unit 3) down to an 'A' it must have been a low 'B' (about 34/35) which doesn't make sense to me based on the marks I received for these at school.
And also, not really sure if it is relevant but on the GAT my written communication standardised score was 41
Thanks for your help :)

not sure you can always try and ask them
but i doubt it will go far

I think your cohort must not have done so well, and you were moderated down as an unfortunate consequence of this.
-
I understand your pain - except my sacs werent moderated down. With my exam score my teacher thinks my pieces must have sounded prepared. I guess there is a negative in doing heaps of practice and seeing similar but not the same prompts :(
-
i wasnt happy with eng either... :(
after averaging 95~% all year on sacs i could only pull a B+ on the end of year??? faarkk.. couldnt even crack 40 :(
-
yep same - 100% on SACs and B+ on exam haha
how'd you go at solo?
-
35 :(
A+ B+ A+ :(
-
still good! solo's so hard to do well in so don't worry.
-
35 :(
A+ B+ A+ :(
How did you only get a 35, with an A+ on the exam?
-
Seems like SACs do matter..
-
35 :(
A+ B+ A+ :(
How did you only get a 35, with an A+ on the exam?
that was for music. i assume the B+ was my performance mark, god dammit, cause performance counts for the most.
as for eng, A+ A+ B+ (stupid exam.) got me 39 :( :( :(

Heffa, your scores make no sense at all... well to me, anyway.
I only had one complete essay in the English exam, plus one 2-paragraph essay and an unstarted essay. This gave me a C grade.
Ended up with A+ A+ C = 34.

They have only ever (according to the vcaa person in charge of inspections) changed someones study score once in the last 5+ years. It was for English due to a something like them missing a page or whatever. So... you probably can't get it changed, inspect/statement of marks and see.
Not sure if youll find much with English because it is so subjective.
-
Yeah, the marks did not make much sense to me either haha :o
I have sent away for a statement of marks/study score so we will see what happens.
Yeah, agreed. There is basically no chance they will change the study score, but at the very least I want to see where I went wrong. We should never expect anything, but I thought 35 would be the minimum. A 35 in English would have pushed my ATAR to the "clearly-in" mark for the Uni course I applied for. At the moment an extra year is on the cards, so it's worth a shot to have the exam checked.

I say go for it, it's not a waste of time if your ss is increased even by 1.. I doubt they'd lower it
-
Yeah that sucks mate. I really do hope that you didn't misread the prompts and as a consequence warped in irrelevant stuff. If you could, perhaps paste both your SAC prompts and the exam prompt of your text for all VN members to analyse. Just a thought. best of luck though.

yeah really bad luck....our teachger did warn us against writing a carbon copy of a previous essay, coz u might diverge off topic. but taking ur word that u didn't or that u moulded it correctly, u can argue, but like someone said before english is really subjective, so if u get it remarked it might go up or down, luck of the draw i guess. i guess get it remarked if u really really need the extra marks for the course u want to get into, otherwise dont' bother
and i don't think sacs can get moderated downwards.....only upwards, its just stronger schools get moderated enormously, and weaker schools hardly get moderated at all, thats wat my physics teacher said, otherwise itd make getting a 50 in a weaker school nigh impossible, which is obviously unfair.
-
no offence but i think getting the statement of marks wont change much for you. but you can get it anyway.
i guess you can ask for it f u want to feel hopeful??! :S i dunno.
but to me its ceebs :P
DW. I wrote my ass off on th exam and only got a 33 ):.
it still hurts eerytime i think about it. T___T
