Are goals important?
Like... i dont have any particular uni course that i want to get into.. nothing i see that im particularly interested in.
I used to think i wanted to get into law, for the money, but not really for the work itself, gave up on that, had work experience at HSBC bank, thought that was cool, wanted to get into banking/finance, but the more i thought about it the more idea deflated. Dont have much interest in anything, really.
S:
So is a goal important? what was your motivation? any adviceeeeeee?

You need to have at least some motivation. It doesn't have to be a career goal if you're not ready for that yet.. just find something to get you through. ;)

You've got ages. You're only going into year 11 so chill a lil' bit and eventualy you'll work out what you want to do. At the start of year 11 I didn't know what I wanted to do (I was deciding between journalism, law, politics and just about everything else), but after just a couple of months I was absolutely sure (and still am) that I wanna do law.
Like werdna said, you do need some motivation, but that doesn't have to be a career goal, it could just be that you want to be better than everyone else- that's why I did well in GMS this year. Or something else.

Competition normally gets me through. :)
Sometimes it can cause you're downfall though if it gets out of control...

Aim to beat someone you know. Or just aim to beat all of your classmates on all of your tests and assignments. Rather than looking at a career goal, take it one SAC at a time. Aim to get a high mark on each SAC and the accumulation of that will leave you with an ATAR that will get you into whatever you want.

thanks for the replies guys !
ill just aim to beat my friends for the moment then, and think about my career choices/courses later.
thanks!

You can have finding a goal as your goal, or it could be your goal to keep your options open.

usually bets motivate me---as in expensive money bets

Aiming to beat your friends/peers is always a good motivational tool. Bets would work as well, as long as there is enough at stake :P

And take some time to explore what you might want to study, perhaps. You have plenty of time being year 11. I know most of my friends were unsure even at the time of picking courses. There are plenty of media for exploring your uni options -e.g. an iTunes U podcast might allow you to discover an interesting career path.

Tumblr (tumblr.com) is hosting it. It's in blog format but I can add my own pages and HTML if I want. PM me if you need further help with it and let me know what your site is when you've set it up and I'll have a look! :)

thanks for taking the time to reply, i really do appreciate it :)
I actually didnt think two years was all that much to think about courses and stuff, but if you guys say that its enough, then so be it. you guys have got all the experience ;D maybe something will punch me in the face randomly and i'll just know what course i wanna do.

sadly i am poor and have no money. and i doubt my friends would have amounts that would interest me ;)

No worries :)
Yeah tumblr sure is awesome. I was using wordpress but when I discovered they wanted to charge me for domain mapping I went straight to Tumblr and have loved it ever since (apart from this one day of downtime). So does this mean you have a tumblog? If so, linkage please :)

There's always a lot at stake when competing against *some* friends, even if the only tangible reward you're working for is a mayobated pizza :)

Exactly. If you're at home, tossing up between starting work and another bout of procrastination, you'll hopefully think to yourself: "Hmmm, I bet *Friend I want to beat* is using this time productively, I'd better get my ass in gear..."

haha my pride huh. i guess thats right. do you think its good to aim high, even though theres probably no chance ill get there?

actually most of my friends are the total opposite of that, always very unproductive, and get good marks. Dont know if its true, but they always seem to have lots of time..
but oh well. i did finish a part of my holiday homework today, so i feel accomplished :)

I think that you should always aim high, it's not a sin.
