I hate sunshine T_T
btw this is in monash forums cuz this is my home and all.. :d
-
Don't remind me. Mine is today
-
Is it that hard? :(
-
At least you have the ability to sit the test..
...some of us aren't even 16 ::)

LOL! :)
Don't worry, that was me 2 months ago. :P I just got my L's before Christmas.
-

Nope if you've been steadily driving since you were 16 then it should be a breeze
-
HINT: Apparently your supposed to drive 5k's under the speed limit cause from the passenger seat's angle, it looks as if your speeding if your driving at the limit.
-
Don't remind me. Mine is today
good luck!
Seriously, Sunshine is terrible. crazy roads, crazy peds, crazy traffic...
and today i found out: crazy road signs!
there was a 60 sign on the right side of the road, and then apparently a 40 sign about 2 secs later on the left side, half hidden
didnt help that the tester told me to switch to the right lane at the same moment too! grr
so obv i went at 55 and failed for speeding 5 seconds later
fml

Shouldn't the instructor be aware of that?
-

^ I learned that the hard way. Or maybe I had a strict test driver person. Oh well, I can drive now at least. =.=
do not, I repeat, DO NOT drive at the speed limit during your test. If the speed limit is 60, drive between 50-55. You will be overtaken by about a gajillion cars, but do NOT be tempted to speed up.
And also, make sure you read EVERY road sign -- even the half hidden ones. The day before, make sure you drive around the area and earmark all of the hidden signs behind trees and bushes and the like.
-
Dandenong vicroads @ 8:30am is the best. Really easy, light traffic, local and main roads are massive, the speed limit is either local:50km/h or main:80km/h so there's no confusion there. There are no odd road signs that you've never seen before either
-
Don't drive 10ks under the limit on an open road, that will just irritate the tester because they know you're doing it deliberately to cover yourself for a 40 zone.
5ks under and just watch for signs.
-

Just use a car with a digital speedo... one with a stiff pedal so you can hold 45/55/75 even if you slip for a second. And oakleigh is best known for it's easy test routes.
-
...some of us aren't even 16 ::)
wtf are u doing here then?

No wonder its booked out 2 months in advance..
-
if it makes you feel better, my friend has failed it 4 times
-
All this driving test failure is making me worried for when I actually finish the 120 hours. :S
My friends who ARE 18 always go for the driving school "pre-test" lessons. Apparently that goes through everything you need to know that's specific to the test (that's more than just good driving).
-
lol, I figure since the cost of lessons + instructor car on test day can go up to like $300+ ez, i can afford to fail it like 6 times if I do it myself lol.
just annoying I cant keep trying the next day with bloody 2 months booking waiting periods in between :(
and yeah Chavi, y so aggressive lol. always good to read about / find out stuff early :)
-
I only had 2 lessons and that was at the end of year 10, so no you don't need a pre-test lesson prior to the test, you just have to be a good driver. :)
-
It's honestly not that difficult. If you know how to drive you should pass.
Stay 5 kms under, read the signs and constantly check the back mirror, occasionally the sides.
I got 98 % because i'm special.
Muaha
-
im good at failing by immediate termination while not losing any points
-
zhen... if you've failed that many times, just catch the bus lol too many people die on the roads
-

Really? I'm just mainly worried about the small stuff like the order of doing things
-
The 'order of things' should be second nature by now. But if you must know:
Merging/Lane change: Check rear mirror, signal, check appropriate side mirror, headcheck, merge, unsignal once your car is positioned in the middle of the new lane
3 Point turn: Check rear mirror, signal left, station next to the kerb, check rear mirror, signal right, check right side mirror, headcheck, turn right into kerb, check both sides of the car, reverse out, station next to the kerb, check mirrors, signal right and drive off
Left turn (give way intersection): Station car facing left (i.e. front wheels are directed to the left), check intersections, drive into intersection when there's a safe gap
Reverse parallel parking: Signal left as you slow down next to the parked car, check rear mirror, headcheck, reverse behind car
Turning right from the median strip: Check for oncoming traffic, accelerate and headcheck again for safety measures
-

Muaha
I agree its not hard.
Just check your mirrors regularly and drive under the speed limit.
Btw what have the failed u on??
Also Avos point should also be taken.
-
quit bitching. at least you have enough hours to sit the test.
-
My test is this Friday and now I'm even more scared. I still can't park LOL.
And headchecks are just pure evil :(
-
don't worry my girlfriend didn't pass till the 5th time
-
don't worry my girlfriend didn't pass till the 5th time
How is that a 'don't worry'? That's more like a 'WORRY MOAR, WORRY MUCH MUCH MOAR'.
The most important thing is to act confident and don't freak out. They're assessing whether or not you can handle yourself on the road, a little bit of confidence as the first impression goes a long way to helping them pass you.
-
don't worry my girlfriend didn't pass till the 5th time
Wow thanks! I'll be fine now!
-
lol my father did it 4 times and was the biggest joke of the family
it seems im gonna surpass him soon :O
-
I reckon OP ought to get himself familiarise with the roads in his suburb/area.
And shouldn't this thread be in OGD? ::)
wtf is OGD? And yes he should.

^ imo test isnt really representative of actual driving where they catch you on tiny tiny things that ppl never do on the road anyway
-
but still knowing it is a test the driver should encorporate what the testing officer wants into their driving and after 27 tries it should be pretty obvious what those demands are
-
oh well, variance does exist in the world ^_^
-
try harder next time, many of us here - i believe- didn't make it the first time. You are not the only one.
-

Sure that's fine to say after the first or second time...but 27? And what avo said is spot-on.
-
How important is the parking part in the test?
-
I failed today as well. Got nervous and accidentally mounted the curb when I had to park on the side of the street. 43wptgp43wbh
-
Reverse parallel?
-
I didn't think it was going to be thissssss difficult :S
-
Reverse parallel (or 3 point turn) finishes the 1st stage (out of two) of the test, if you don't execute it properly you may not pass the 1st stage meaning that you can't get to the 2nd stage and hence failing. But this is worst case scenario, i.e. if you manage to do everything else in the 1st stage properly and don't manage to do reverse/3point then you still have a chance on passing
-
no, mounting the kerb hard enough that passengers can feel = instant failure
bl though, we'll pass next time :)
mandy: not strict, just get your car in the middle of the lines at the end of the test, and STOP. dont adjust to make it straight or whatever. gl

I'm getting more and more nervous now LOL. I never do headchecks .. HORROR.
-
plz practice them then ^^
switching lanes pretty straightforward with (fake) headchecks.
also when u turn left crossing bicycle lane
-
Can we just keep turning our heads everywhere when reversing from a car park (Is that even tested)?
-
at the start of the exam, foot on brake, look behind, then only move out slowly
minus points if u move out a bit before looking behind. by that i mean turning your head around not the mirror
-
should i be moving out while my head is looking back? also do i need to check the side mirrors/headcheck while doing this?
-
plz practice them then ^^

Hahaha fake headchecks! I remember doing those with my instructor.. I turned around so fast I didn't even see anything, it just endangered my life more LOL.
-
I was marked down because i did "body checks", i lifted myself off the chair and full turned around lol. almost rear-ended the guy in front of me going 80

Inevitably that is all headchecks are while you are a learner. Until you're driving by yourself and almost get in an accident with some dickhead in your blind-spot, then you start knowing what to look for and actually LOOKING when you change lanes (and staying out of other people's blind spots).
-
I honestly don't know when I'm ever going to get mine, I have roughly ~90 hours to go and I'm already 18 =.=
-

Ahaha, he's the dickhead because you nearly ran into him?
Just use your rear view mirror aggressively and gauge where the other cars are at all times. So if they're creeping up on you, realise that you need to check them again. Just takes practice

Hahhaa, yes, he is. For sitting in my blindspot. :P
After a bit of experience, you start being aware of your surroundings. Ideally, you should know where other cars are, their speed and where they're going to be, if anyone is in your blindspot, and as a precaution if you are in anyone else's blindspot (saved me from accidents so many times).
Also, for changing lanes, if you can see their headlights in your rearview, there is plenty of space for you to get in.

I failed my test the first time. Everything was perfect. Then, as I was parking at VicRoads at the end of the test, the front of the car hit the concrete block at the end of the parking spot. I didn't mount it, I didn't even hit it that hard. I failed because I had a "collision" with a concrete block in the parking spot. WHAT AN ABSOLUTE JOKE.
Second time around my mum's middle back brake light decided to stop working right before my test so the instructor said I couldn't do it. Then some lovely man in the car park came and banged on it with his fist and it started working again :D Passed that time around, yay
-
Any of the older dudes here done a defensive driving course? I've heard people say that it helps them avoid collisions with oncoming trucks and dodge shit lying on the road. Might be useful for some :P
-
I did a defense driving course with AAMI because it was free, but Im going to do another one.
The whole day is just to emphasize the one damn point:
KEEP BACK FROM OTHER CARS (2 seconds at least).

What happens if there is a difference between the recorded driven km in your logbook and in your car?
-

Your logbook is checked off before you move off to get in the car. The LTO never checks your odo

yes, they take your logbook completion declaration form and everything then only get in the car

Ohhh you live in the Westside! Did you do your test at Sunshine? :)
Did the testing guy look like he remembered the numbers ..
-
It doesn't matter if there's a difference... unless the number in your log book is bigger than what your odometer reads (provided it's the same car).

I'm not him, but I did. Worst place ever
-
If you fail the first time, rebook at Oakleigh. If you fail the second time, stay off the road...
-
To be honest, most of my friends spend time practising how to pass the exam. You'll do well to practise becoming a better driver.
-
the odometer shouldnt matter. nobody looks at it (completely serious)
Yes, I did my test in Sunshine. must be the hardest vicroads in the world imo..so shitty
-

Yeah, that's my problem LOL. I'm a dumbass :(
LOL. When's your test? If it's still some time away then you could always just take your car out and try to get the mileage up. I don't think my tester even remembered the mileage recorded in my log book. And I know for sure he didn't check the odometer because you have to press some button to see it...whatever that button is.
-
mandy you can borrow my car for your test :) it may or may not be roadworthy

My test is this Friday LOL. And my car has the odometer thingy right there, ready to see :(
I think I might find an instructor's car last minute and use that.

You know, I actually wanna pass my test.. :P
-
I still haven't got my L's and I'm nearly 18. I don't think I'm ready to drive :| And I guess it's better to not drive then to drive and freak out and kill everyone/myself.
I'm going to be a bus wanker forever.
-

The reason you failed is because you're a sh!t driver, don't go blame the area you did it in for making you fail. If you can't do it in that area then what makes you think you can drive safely in others. IMO just give up because I don't want to be on the road risking my life knowing there are people like you on the road.
-
LOL ease up man, there's gonna be dicks on the road no matter what
-
^^lol epic first post hahaha
-
Keep your eyes on a Current Affair. swoosh would definitely be making an appearance on their road rage special soon.

Im on the eastside.
The only real advantage is a discount on insurance if you bother.
-
Wait hold on so you use the car you learn with? I thought they use their cars :S
-
They don't supply their cars, you supply a car. You can supply your parents regular car or book a car from the RACV/another driving school

One of my friends is turning 21 and doesn't have her Ls yet
-
Can I use a car that isn't the one I learn from?
-
If you want, just make sure you can drive it
-
Can I use a car that isn't the one I learn from?
Yeah you can do your test in a ferrari if you really want... it's just smarter to use a car you're familiar with. One that you can judge distances so you don't mount kerbs and where you can control your pedal to hold a speed. Fluctuating speedo indicates you can't multitask, as in concentrating on the road whilst not having to look down at your speed too much.
-
I got a different car today and my test is tomorrow.. Am I screwed or what LOL. I have two hours in total to adapt to it :(
-
Hmm k, I better start getting used to the corolla I'm planning to drive in....
-
I got a different car today and my test is tomorrow.. Am I screwed or what LOL. I have two hours in total to adapt to it
Manual or auto? Manual will be harder but either way just get as much familiarity with the pressure of the accelerator/clutch as possible
