emmm... just wandering why is there such a huge difference between the ATAR clear-in?
Monash needs 65 - 70
Melbourne needs 85
thats huge difference....
can any1 explain why?
-
It was actually 77.
Reasons
-The illusion of more prestige
-For single degree science, Melbourne offers more postgraduate pathways
-Guaranteed Masters Degree
-Facilitates postgraduate Engineering, hence all the engineers join up
-The next science related course on the ATAR scale at Melbourne University has a 98.45 cutoff, hence those who miss out may enter the science field
-
a lot of the high scoring people going to monash do science double degrees with engineering/arts/commerce etc which lowers the score for a pure science degree
-
The Monash Science course is also divided into 3(?) tiers. Also, B.Sci at UoM encompasses more fields than the Monash B.Sci i.e people who want to do Engineering, IT or even Health Science do the B.Sci instead of doing a separate course like they would at Monash.
An alternative explanation is that UoM is just better hence more people do it /extreme bias =p

I'm glad the Monash allegiance has finally rubbed of you. :P haha
