Post by: onur369 on January 30, 2011, 12:45:35 pm
Hi guys, I thought it will be beneficial by having a thread dedicated to the highly popular novel 'Maestro'

Id like to start this thread by asking about : The development of the relationship between Paul Crabbe and Herr Keller.

Below I added some study guides based on Maestro, enjoy !

Can anyone please help me with this question- it's not an essay question.

John, with Nancy to this point has represented the second-hand living indulged in by middle-class Australia of the sixties, as they borrow values and cultural identity from Europe. Now his boredom drives him to look for a new identity; he follows the direction of Australian trade and immigration and decides that Asian is the identity of the future for Australia.

How does John Crabbe represent Australia’s failure to find its authentic identity?

+1, Thanks for the study guides!

Paul's initial impressions of Keller are that of a drunk. He resents Keller's advice and strict instruction because Keller does not let him play. As the novel progresses, Paul's perception shifts and he begins to admire Keller for the great musician he is. Also, Keller is a harsh teacher to Paul and never offers encouragement or praise because he does not want Paul to be any more arrogant than he already is (early in the book). This changes when Keller begins to see a younger version of himself in Paul. Keller commits himself further and further to Paul and begins to see him as a reminder of his own lost son.

^ That's something you can write on. :S
