Title: brackets and circular functions
Post by: king surat on February 01, 2011, 09:18:30 pm
I have heard that circular functions will be marked incorrectly if a bracket is not used to indicate what is affected by the circular function.

For example
apparently if you write sin 4pi you will be marked wrong
apparently you must write sin(4pi) to be marked correct.

This would be a lot easier to demonstrate in hand writing but hopefully you get my drift.

I think that this is due to some confusion in marking last year's methods exam 2 - Question 3...Pyramid of Death

Is anyone able to confirm this? I know it is a small detail, but could potentially cost people a lot of marks this year

I heard that was the case too, but then I know a different teacher that completely contradicted it.
So.. i'd like to know too :/

I don't know about them taking marks off for something like that but I think people should do it anyway just for neatness' sake.

+1 (go Google!), I would go with brackets just to be safe.
