I guess so.  That's all you need to borrow.  Scan your ID card, scan the barcode of the book, print receipt, off you go!  :D

Self checkout ftw.

I went into the biomed library the other day to see if the texts on the biomed booklist were available, and even though the system said there were multiple copies available, none of them were on the shelves - and there was hardly anyone studying in there.
Is this always the case with biomed books? If it is, I guess I'll just buy them all..

either they were stolen or the biomed books are kept somewhere else and the computer found results

Hmm, maybe they were all stolen recently then, cause the system showed other ones which were stolen. Seems kinda unlikely though (there was meant to be like 10 copies of each text).
I thought that they might be in a different section, but I checked the areas that corresponded to the codes on the system. :(

Did it say it was in the High Use section? Cuz they have a shelf for the larger books there, which is where it might have been.

Oh damn, I didn't see anything about a high use section, but I guess that'll be where they're kept..
THanks for the info. I'll go in and have another look tomorrow.
Glad I live really close to Uni :)

They're all in the high use section, don't go upstairs, it's to the left of the ground floor.
They're on 24 hour loan though.

Awesome. Thanks.
Yeah, I saw it was only 24hour loan. Can you extend it? Or do I need to go in and re-borrow?

You can't extend 24 hour loans. But.. If you borrow it on a Friday, you don't have to return it until Monday.

The idea is generally that you only use it for the day. If you need a textbook to take home, the top floor of the ERC is full of old editions of textbooks you can keep for months. Great for sciences, particularly maths, physics and engineering.

You'll find the reserves section on the ground floor of the Baillieu Library will have most prescribed textbooks for you to borrow on either 2 hour loans or overnight loans.  From the list of , you'll be able to find the following textbooks for these subjects:

1.  Calculus 1 & 2
2.  Chemistry
3.  Physics
4.  Mind, Brain & Behaviour 1 &2
5.  Linear Algebra
6.  Introductory Microeconomics
7.  Introductory Macroeconomics
8.  Finance 1
9.  Business Finance

and heaps more that I haven't bothered to look in first year.

Maybe when you change your display picture into something more pleasant, I'll consider changing mine.

Here's something to start you off:

Yeah you and my friend would be like, best friends.
She played pokemon on her DS the whole way through Culture, Media and Everyday Life lectures last semester to prove that she could still get a H1 without taking any notes or paying any attention (the slides aren't up on the LMS).
She H1'd it.

I guess she just studied the textbook immensely

Fairly sure that subject wouldn't have a textbook

Then she must have cheated unless it was very general knowledge

Errr no. Wait til you actually know anything about uni subjects before trying to make judgements on how people passed or not...

Haha no it's just a really easy subject to do well in.
Like, the first assessment for 30% of the mark is a blog in which some people (ie me) had to post twice a week but some (ie her) had to post once a week about the things discussed in the readings.
And then the second assessment was a 1500 word essay in which you had to analyse an ad.
And then the third assessment was a 1500 word essay in which you had to respond to a topic, and she chose analysing the way that directors involved the audience in certain ways in a television show.  I did some question about new technology (my special field in Arts, I always got like H1 or H1+ if I wrote on it).

If you do Arts subjects you have heaps of reading which basically just reinforces the lecture content and I think she read most of it.

It was just too easy.
I got a 95 and I skipped a whole lot of lectures and readings.

We basically didn't pay much attention to take the piss.  But, I did write 33 000 words in my blog and reference about 45 books for each of the essays.
So I guess you can say I wasn't taking the piss...I don't think I'm cut out for risking my marks at all...
