Its back...with a vengeance.
No, really guys i need help choosing between several horrible alternatives.
Before we start, i am really trying to avoid anything before 9am, it means i would have to wake up like 630-640 which isn't cool. 10am is a comfortable ~7am wake up which is what i was doing for high school so i guess i can manage. (I am not a morning person at all...i resent waking up early/waking up with little sleep... i stay up very late usually.. i mean im still up now at like 6am haha). I'd also really like to swing a day off if possible.
Two of my classes PHS1080 and MTH1010 only have one lecture stream so if anything clashes with them that option is also out.
If you'd like to check out my options on MUTTS with the clashes artfully crossed out you can do so here.
(When looking at labs(purple) note all go for 3 hours even if mutts cuts them off..however MTH1010 aka math labs only go for 2)
If you're wondering why wednesday and thursday are so spacey (apart from me wanting wednesdays off) see here
-
Option 1
Here is the best option i have found so far:
Not really thrilled at the prospect of a 7 hour monday and a 6 hour tuesday. Since PHS1080 only has one choice for part 2 (which is on wednesday), which is at 8am(means getting up around 530am) my general plan was to skip Wednesdays. What is peoples opinions on skipping two lectures a week? Also what are peoples opinions on having 7 hours straight... im really not thrilled at the prospect.

Option 2
I can avoid having monday go for 7 hours and tuesday go for 6 hours. This can be achieved by making tuesday 7 hours long but at the same time making monday much more palatable. AS you can see it would mean on monday i have 1 hour of lecture, break for an hour then 5 hours.

Option 3
This makes monday and tuesday much less hectic and spaced out, it come at a cost though. On fridays i start 9am (which means waking up 630am) instead of an 11am start (wake up 830am ish). I also can't skip the friday class since its a lab.

ur mondays are going to be long ull be exhausted by the end of the day and u have no breaks (other than short ones)
my opinion is its bad...although ive done it so many times even worse than 2 lectures a week haha u can listen to them online (i can just imagine if u have a test in physics and they make it wednesdays that would b so crappy)
i can just tell ur going to start skipping the thursday morning lecture as well
friday is pretty good u have a 1 hr gap and its not too early
-
Haha yeah i just really want to swing a day off and 9am lectures or before are murder.
Theres no possible way (without clashes) where i can load thursday up anymore.
I can load wednesday up more though i might try that.
-
ok
if you are going to go to all your lectures i would go with option 1 since you start the latest out of the 3
if you are going to skip lectures i would go with option 3 cause u would get wednesdays off after those 2 long days (which u also have breaks in between which personally i like especially prior to a lab that goes for 3 hrs) thurs if u skip 10am lecture thats like pretty much a day off and then u have another long day on friday but its a lab followed by the more easy going lectures followed by break and lab
just depends what u wanna do (you might not want to follow my bad habits haha)
-
Option 4
Most days of the week are much more spread out, in this scenario i'd skip physics on wednesday morning and the first lecture i'd show up for on wednesday would be chem.
This means though, since i have a lab wednesdays, i definitely cant have it off as i wanted.
I'd probably take thursday's off in this scenario to compensate, unless i have a sudden urge to travel 2 hours up and 2 hours back from monash for some reason.
Thats missing 3 lectures and 2 out of 3 physics lectures.

Haha yeah i don't mind bad habbits at all (kinda lazy) especially considering the bitch travel time.
Yeah i like your reasoning for #3
These possible timetables ive made though, each one of them kind of relies on me getting all the preferences i've shown inside the picture ... otherwise it falls apart. Maybe im going about this the wrong way? Should i just go into allocate and put everything in order of latest being my first preference and earliest being my last..
Btw, thanks for all the help truelight youre awesome
(haha oops posted wrong pic for #4, fixed now)
-
hmm ok now im thinking option 4
heres my thinking
between option 3 and 4. monday is the same so no change there
tuesday option 3 u have 3 lectures and by the end ull be like fck i want this day to end and then ull wait 1 hr and then do a 3 hr prac. option 4 u have 2 lectures which is good and then u have a 2 hr maths lab which u might even finish early and i think it would be easier than a physics or bio lab and u finish at 2 and the lab is preceded by a maths lecture so that kinda keeps things fresh
wednesday u would skip in option 3 but option 4 u would start 11 (if u skip physics) and if u get really lazy u might just rock up to the lab at 2 so that time would be alright (not too early) but it has its advantage on the friday day
thursday same in option 3 and 4 (if u get extremely lazy u may skip that day off and wake up and listen to both lectures)
friday option 3 u start at 9am! and u should attend on time whereas in lectures u can come in late and hopefully no one notices u lol whereas option 4 u start at 11am which gives u more sleep and u dont have to use ur brain so much in option 4 friday because u would of slept in and u know its not like striaght from being awake to maths lab like it is in option 3
ps: ur lecturers will say it is highly recommended u attend lectures because bla bla bla statistics show ppl who dont attend lectures vs ppl who do attend lectures theres a correlation in exam performance bla bla bla but haha u said ' i don't mind bad habbits at all ' just make sure you catch up

no u sorted out ur preferences already, put them in that order so if u want option 4 put 1 into all the boxes of those times u have in option 4
now if somehow u don't get into one of those time slots (what ive always done and its only happened twice, most of the time u will get ur preferences if u put them with no clashes at all) is i email allocate (ill post the science allocate email if you want) her name is Jenny and if you put some good excuse and ur like i really cant make it on that day because bla bla bla (and living 2 hrs away is a good reason i reckon) then she should be able to change it for you manually
-
Haha really? I'm very stoked to hear that, thats sweet as.
Thanks for telling me.
-
yes it should be alright
do you know which option your going to pick? or are you going to wait? because the the preferences close 17th feb, so you have plenty of time
-
Haha bit of an overload and its a bit late... ill look over it in the morning but it seems as i keep making up options they keep getting better haha so 4 right now.
For anyone wondering why we kept mentioning 7 hours and it doesnt match up in places i realised just now math labs are only 2 hours in duration, not 3. So i edited out all the mistakes... i think...
-
haha ok yeah just look over it and pick one that you think is right for you
-
Anyone else want to offer some input
-
Option 1 & 2 is just wayy to hectic.
I would go for Option 3 and I'll probably just skip lecture on wed and thursday.
However if you want to attend every lecture possible, i'll say Option 4.
-
I've actually more or less discounted Option 3 because it has a 9am lab, which means i actually have to show up.
I'll be taking public transport untill at least 2nd semester so that means if i have a 9am lab i gotta get up at like 630 which isn't cool.
Probably taking option 4, i want a day off and thursday is the only day i can do that really... and theres no way im showing up to an 8am lecture on wednesday (530 wake up ish), so i'd be missing 3 lectures but.. its the best so far.
I might try tweak it some more but i doubt i can squeeze much more out of it.
