Hey guys. I am doing a chromatography sac on Friday at Melbourne uni and I'm not sure how to prepare for it and what I need to be aware of while doing the practical. The practical i am doing is determining the amount of alcohol (ethanol and propanol) in wine using gas chromatography.

I went on this excursion last Thursday and did the exact same activity you will be doing. I'm not sure how they could make it a SAC but it is to do with gas chromatography. There are no questions, only conducting the actual experiment and getting results from the machine thingy o_O. I guess this is where your school will probably add their own part to it.

Yeah. I think we do the prac and do the write up at school. Overall, is the experiment easy to conduct? What steps and/or equipment do I need to e careful with?

Well the actualy experiment is actually quite simple to do.
I think the best thing you can do now is think about possible errors you'll make.
nearly all SACs like this will ask you what are the systematic and random errors you made.
Try to think of 3 of each errors for each experiment (provided you know roughly what machines you'll operate).
Revise calibration curves, because many students screw up on that.
Other than that, I think its all calculations and concemptual questions which you just have to live through

The experiement should be easy, and you'll work in groups and have instructors help you. You can ask them questions on the Sacs too if I remembered right
