Title: Chinese.
Post by: Richiie on February 19, 2011, 05:41:36 pm
I plan to do Chinese as a breadth, but not sure which class I'll be put in, so I don't know if it'll fit in my timetable. What should I do? =s

Edit: The attachment shows my troubles with Chinese.

I think there is this Chinese test during orientation which decides the class you would be allocated, (think it's an oral test). However, I am not too sure

You have to sign up for the test on Level 1 Sidney Myer noticeboard

I've signed up at that building already. I'm just unsure how to structure my timetable for Chinese classes.

Hmm.. Does the subject appear in your study plan as enrolled or planned?

I've enrolled into Chinese 1A, just I'm pretty sure I won't be in it because I'm ethnically Chinese. To add into the pain, Chinese timetables are so annoying, and hard to fit onto my current timetable. So sad. :(

Try going to a different lecture https://sis.unimelb.edu.au/cgi-bin/subjects.pl?scode=CHIN10005&year=2011

Maybe you can move Monday's lecture to Tuesday, move the Biology tute, and attend a different Chem lecture.

I'm ethnically Chinese as well but I was told it's okay as long as you don't know Chinese and attend the placement test.

(the thing wont let me)  i went to the Student centre and they said do the interview first b4 enrolling. im worried that some of the classes may be full and there may be clashes in my timetable. This is weird because ive seen a few people already enrolled in chinese 1A

I was thinking about moving chem lectures, the gay thing, it's in the stream thingy. So yeah.

Just apply at Sidney Myer noticeboard asap. Perhaps you'll be allowed to enroll after the placement.

That's what I thought should happen. I got mine Enrolled at the student centre last November since I though there was some kind of glitch. I think no one's supposed to be enrolled in the subject until the placement test is done.

Anyway, did you get an email about signing up about placement tests? I didn't, only found out yesterday so I signed up just in case :(

EDIT: According to Neobeo's list generator, there's currently 31 students enrolled in the subject. So yeah, there should be spots remaining :P

I didn't get an email, but I've contacted via email to the convenor about it. He just said to come to the interview. I hope I can make a decent timetable including Chinese. :(

i think everyone kinda needs the placement test, so there definitely be enough place for the classes. however, some people don't need one because they are not chinese and have absolutely no knowledge of it thats why they can be enrolled into 1A. i can't speak mand. and can't write much at all and have not done vce chinese but coz im chinese, in most cases they will likely to drop me in 3A, which should be extremely hard :/.........  and i don;t how exactly can we fix our timetable coz by 21st, they are close, i think, and the admin will do the timetable for those who have enrolled but haven't touch their timetable yet... so much confusion, aw well

I'm not even sure which Chinese class I'll be put in, I've currently only designed my timetable for Chinese 2A. I really hope I can get in that class.

This is probably fairly late, but just seeing the previous comments, is it too late to sign up for the interview oral test tommorow?

Just try, from what I say, all the early interview times for Wednesday are taken. Perhaps see if Thursday is still available, worth a try. Just try to do it asap, or if it doesn't work, try to email/call Dr. Li Ping.
